Whenever I watch a long series, such as One Piece or Detective Conan, I do research to find out the order of the tv episodes, movies, specials, etc. Usually, the movies come out after a certain amount of regular episodes. After I get to the movie, I watch it, then take a break from that series for a few days. I find that by having a "break" from watching the anime will allow me to watch the rest of the series. When determining when to take my break, I think of how long my attention span is, and if a series is 800+ episodes long and ongoing, such as Detective Conan, I will watch up to 20-25 episodes since that is usually how long my attention span is for most series.

I still couldn't believe myself that I had watched One Piece starting from the veeeeeeeeery beginning, meaning episode 1, and I have made it to the latest. I guess a lot of patience and if you're into an anime you wouldn't get bored watching it really.

It's easy.. Step 1. just grab some money> Step 2. go to a convenience store > Step 3. buy some foods.. more foods >Step 4. go back to your house > Step 5. go to your bedroom or something >Step 6. LOCK THE DOOR > Step 7. close the window > Step 8. watch Anime >Step 9. MAX the volume! > Step 10. take a break after you finish 7 episodes > Step 11. go to the bathroom if you need to > REPEAT Step 10 and 11 until you finish the whole series!

    Patience. That's really the key.
Wait for a few months so you would have a few episodes to watch in one sitting.
If you don't have anything to watch, just rewatch some of your favorite ones or just watch movies that you haven't seen yet.
I consider the number of episodes the anime has when that particular anime is already completed.
Like before when I watched World Trigger, I decided to watch in when it already had 50 episodes because I knew that by then, I'd have another anime in mind that I would like to watch who also had a few episodes or is already completed.
I don't have a particular long anime that I watch exclusively 'cause I get bored so fast, so like what I said above, look for other animes (longer or shorter ones) or movies to have variety.

personal preference is key in any long running series. ive watched all of the top 200 long running anime series 20+ minute episodes. i can say im a fan of naruto , one piece, bleach , inuyasha and quite a few shonen style anime. while gintama , toriko, fairy tale and some other similar ones i didnt like at all but still watched out of sheer boredom.

what i really like with any series i watch.
first is a good story or hook.- ive learned there isnt any point in finishing a story i really didnt get into after the first 24 eps.

some notable series that had that good story style

watch it on your own pace because it's feel more enjoyable and fun a the same time, before I can watch at least 13 episodes in one day non stop bu now at least one episode will do watch at your own pace to enjoy not just the animation but also the whole thing

Same here. I used to binge-watch a whole lot of anime when i was in college, circa 5 years ago. I could stream 24 to 30 episodes in just a day. I could start at around 10 am and finish it in the late evening. Sometimes it can be real straining, but on the other hand, it is also very satisfying. Nothing to be proud of, but I skip a lot of classes in college because of this. I even have to retain one class because I kept getting late in attending it lmao. Watching a long running anime, and hardcore binge-watch them in a day is really a matter of persistence and interest towards what you are watching. I could say that that was the peak of my anime streaming days. It is difficult to keep the balance nowadays, because work.

Hmm to answer the title question, I guess that would boil down if you got hooked by the anime. If you liked the story, plot and character then that can be enough of a motivation to continue watching long running anime.

I watch a long series the same way I would eat an elephant: one bite at a time. If I have time to watch an episode, then I watch an episode. If I have time to watch 4 episodes then I watch 4 episodes. OS will keep track of which I watched, so I can pick up where I left off whenever I want. :)

I can't really say for sure. I first got introduced to anime waiting for daily episode updates on scheduled airing in television channels and what I had for options before were classic but pretty much have no competition like Flame of Rekka, Yuyu Hakusho, Naruto, Bleach and the like. Maybe you just have to like them enough to devote enough time not to get bored in watching long running series.
