What software is easy to use and good to make an animated avatar/sig?

People here swear by Photoshop to do the trick but I have to admit that it did overwhelm me the first time I used it. It may not be easy to use but Photoshop is efficient and effective, you just have to get yourself familiar with the interface and the different tools in it. Remember that practice makes perfect. You'll get better at it in time so don't get frustrated if you don't get things right right away. /ok

I've never ventured into the world of GIF making but yes, you can make GIFs using Photoshop. If you simply want to make PNGs with transparent backgrounds, perhaps you can go for GIMP which is a good alternative and it does the job well. I'm pretty sure you can also make GIFs using GIMP though, as I've said, I never really tried making one before. Have fun ~

Just be aware that photoshop is not like most photo editors you'll find online. You don't just click a few buttons in photoshop to make something nice. You have to actually 'work' to make something really nice and may take from minutes to hours. I've seen quite a few people who just got photoshop from wherever then say something like, 'Hey photoshop sucks big time!', where in fact they don't admit that they don't how to make something simple.

Few days late, but try using G.I.M.P it's free and supports third party installs.
I used Photoshop, but after "getting" it I figured trying something different and legal ended finding GIMP.
