By OS I meant operating system of your computer of course. What I would like to know from everybody is what their OS(Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7(beta)) and what you have in that computer. I also want you to share what you use it for in general; personal use, business, and/or school. I guess to make it easier I'll put my answer to my own.

I use it for all: personal use, business, and/or school. I put my backups to my external hard drives, so its all good!!

Nah its all good, just wondering if the general population is keeping up with the computer technology that's all. Heck I have so much space, I only need 100gb yet I have.. 200+.

I am not saying any of this to show off or brag but it seems that I have accumulated a bunch of computers over the past few years ... I just bought another Toshiba laptop this morning at a yard sale for $ 40 that I plan to only use with my Korg synthesizer and M-audio keyboards ... that's why I have a number of them, most are used for only one thing and nothing else.

Right now I have 5 desktops that have anywhere from 500M to 4Gig of memory and all have some version of either XP or Vista installed. Two are dual cores. Three are used only for on-line stock trading, one only for photo processing and the last is general purpose.

I also have 5 laptops with anywhere from 500M to 3Gig of memory. Two are used only for music/midi work, one is used only for Ebay buying and selling, the other two are mobile and also used around the house to watch TV in different places (I have a Slingbox connected to my satellite box on my home LAN)

You have to remember that I have been using "home" computers since the 1970's when the first OSI 100 came out and it used CPM as an operating system. So I've been hooked for a long time. desu~

You have enough to have your own cafe pub!! haha.. I was thinking of doing those stock things maybe its not such a great idea since I have no experience or good knowledge of it. Damn... you have a huge amount of computers with massive space in them, its like you're collecting a vast # of data about something like space? haha anyways thanks for the info!!

@mikko0 ... Opening an internet cafe would require a food license ... lol ... and I am an awful cook ... desu~

BTW I wouldn't recommend day trading stock ... very high stress activity and also expensive. In the US it now takes $ 35K to open a day trading account with an on-line broker. Just be an investor it's much easier than being a trader.

You would be surprised how fast you can fill up even a several hundred GB drive if you are doing 16 track midi stuff. But it's fun.

Actually I am collecting data so I can rewrite the human DNA sequence .... hummmm

Rewrite the DNA you SAY?! This may sound really insane, but my ideal life is part of doing something like that. Alternating DNA, automail(Something like FMA) prosthetics, and more.. A lot more technological ideas in my head. The only problem is, where the heck am I getting these equipments!! haha..

About being an investor, what are the benefits of being one? What are the downsides of it?

Good luck with that DNA sequence!! It sounds really frustrating to work on.

It's ok! As long as its understandable its completely fine. What I said up there was my laptop. I thought to myself.. If I were to buy a laptop it shouldn't be only for school. If it is then it would only last a short time. If I buy something that works for everything, from typing docs to animation, then it would last a long time indeed. And so that's what I've decided. It cost me $1300 CAN. That's including shippingling, but hey! I can make videos, play any games, open programs without having to wait a long time.

When you are looking for a laptop or any computer out there, be sure to check for the processor and the ram.

[Ram] Reasons why you should look at this.
Vista itself consumed quite a lot of memory(1Mb). For school, I would suggest 2-3Mb of memory because it takes time to open applications with very little amount of ram. If you're impatient and want to run multiple apps such as Microsoft Office, Photoshop, or Anti-virus, you should consider getting something in between 2-3Mb ram.

For gamers I suggest 3mb-4mb of ram. And at least 512mb vid card.

Trust me.. It will help you conserve your patience.

[For those seeking minimal gaming computer(laptop/desktop)]
The processor "must" be an Intel, not "AMD." The reason for that is, Intel is more faster and reliable out there than AMD(prices wise).
