Did you export the image as a .png or did you just save it as a .png? Also, when you exported it, did you check the "Save color values from transparent pixels" checkbox?

If that doesn't work, try unchecking the "Save background color" checkbox.

Well, actually I exported it as a .png image and also checked the "Save color values from transparent pixels" checkbox and unchecked the "Save background color" checkbox. xD But it doesn't work at all and also if you check my picture and paste it in your gimp you will see that the background is transparent. :D

    Weird.

Instead of exporting it, try just saving it as a png lol. Also, try uploading it to a image hosting site and see if there is still a white background.

Edit: If all else fails, just set the background to #1b1b1b.

I'm not really sure why this is a problem when uploading a .png made from GIMP to OS, but it is what it is.

Hello. Thank you for this thread, it is very useful.
    But i have a problem.. :/
i have a picture and its background in white. but when i edit it using GIMP, the background becomes grey checkered pattern..(so it means that the background is transparent, right?)
when I uploaded it as avatar pic, the background remains white..

    what should I do ?

    resize it~

the .png picture you made becomes .jpg when you upload it as your avatar if the size is more than 180(width) x 300(length)

welp, this is a just tutorial thread with a little bit of Q and A so it's not a surprise for it to be dead...

speaking of which, there's only one available content here that's mostly done~

quide-like? I'm not sure i can follow what you're saying..

~ okay, so I just downloaded GIMP on my PC and I think it is easier for me
to use it than PS O_O... GIMP is likely more simple to use while PS is quite
complicated for me, anyway I'm up now for some editing (*^_^*)
