Wow, I can't believe he's retiring. He's made so many wonderful films that I've seen over the years and grew up with.

My first movie by him was Castle in the Sky and even then he was a legend. A king of anime movies...for me that is. After Castle in the Sky I had made my goal to watch every movie by him. It worked but to hear and read this...makes me sad but happy. You had an awesome, spectacular run! YOU ARE THE LEGEND HAYAO! Watashi no yujin arigato(Thank you my friend). Bows

He is such a great story teller! His film's really got me to reach a new appreciation for animation films. Its a bitter sweet moment to hear about his retirement, but even so Thank you Hayao Miyazaki for sharing with us the childlike dream and adventure that sweep us off our feet every time. What a wonderful journey, story and legacy.

It is sad but not so much shocking. I will be looking forward to the release of the sequel especially considering the high expectations it has placed upon itself with the possibility of being a contender at the Academy Awards. Pretty exciting stuff!

I used to respect him as a great anime director. But his last work is so dissapointing...
How the hell did he describe it like they're the victim of the war?? Everyone knows that japan started the war, attacked USA first.
Maybe he loves his country too much so that he feels no sorry about that history or just because of senility :/
I think I understand why he retires now and I'm glad about that
