Default A Guide to the Different Video Errors on OS Videos and How To Properly Report Them

Attention: Please take some time to read this thread.

For those of you who are new to OS and want to know more about the different types of Streaming problems this thread will serve as a good guide specially to those who stream a lot everyday. To the old members please take your time to read this as well as it will help both of us regarding broken videos faster .

After taking a look into the report page a few times it has come to my attention that some errors almost always come out as a false positive (Meaning there is no error in the video). So in order to prevent it from happening let this thread serve as a way to make it easier to determine for the mods if a video is really broken.

"But Kobo! Why is there a need for us to change the way we report!?"

That is because we get a lot of video reports everyday. Its not that we are complaining but going through all the videos reported is very time consuming and not all of us in the staff have internet speeds comparable to the US or UK so having to check a video that says "Video Hangs @ a certain Time" without even mentioning at what time in the video would mean the staff will need to view the entire 23-minute video (or 1 hour if its drama) just to confirm if its broken. And just to let you know there are about 10-20 similar errors usually every few days. Think of it this way, by changing the way you report the videos (It won't even take much of your time) we can easily determine if a video is really broken immediately and have it replaced faster.

The Different Types of Video Problems Explained

So here is a list of all the options you can see when reporting a video, please read through the description of each error so that you will know what to pick when you report a video as broken.

    *Net Stream Error/Video Not Found
★ Pretty straighforward, this happens when you load a video and you get this message:
★ Any Message similar to this or contains the words "Net Stream Error" fall into this category
★ DO NOT report a video as a Net Stream Error/Video Not Found immediately. Most of the reports that come out false (Not Broken) come from these videos. If you experience this error please refresh the page, wait 5-10 seconds and play the video again.
★ If it still has the same error after that you may report it as a Net Stream Error

    *No Subtitle
★ Pretty simple the video you are viewing does not have a subtitle
★ This may or may not occur throughout the entire video (ie. only part of the video has no subtitles)
★ Refer to the section below on how to report videos that have no subtitles.

    *Audio and Video Not Sync
★ This happens when either the video is ahead of the sounds (ex: someone jumping off but you don't hear the thud until after a few seconds when the character is already running) or vice versa where the audio plays first before the video (ex: You hear some voices but the video shows talking after hearing the voice).
★ Similar to the No Subtitles Error, this may or may not occur throughout the whole video (only a portion).
★ Refer to the section below on how to report videos with this error.

*Video Stops/Hangs at a Certain Time
★ This is another error we almost always get even though the video is perfectly fine.
★ There are two possibilities for this error, 1. You had a Buffer Cut and 2. The video always hangs at a certain time.
★ A buffer cut means that the video you were streaming didn't fully load. (Usually its around the last few minutes of an episode, sometimes earlier)
★ This can actually be fixed by just refreshing the page and playing it again. (Move the pointer to where you were cut off and just wait a few seconds for it to load) as seen here:
★ If your video always hangs at the same exact time then report the video as an error under this category.

    *No Audio
★ The video you are streaming has no sounds.
★ This may or may not happen throughout the entire video.
★ Refer to the section below on how to report this error.

    *No Video
★ The video you are streaming has sounds but doesn't show any video.
★ Again, this may or may not happen throughout the entire video.
★ Refer to the section below on how to report this error.

    *Subtitle and Video not Sync
★ This is somewhat similar with the other sync error above but this time its the sounds and the subtitles that aren't playing at the same time. (Like seeing Naruto Shout Rasengan but the subtitle saying "Rasengan!" shows up a few seconds later or earlier)
★ Refer to the section below on how to report this error.

    *Duplicate Episode
★ This error happens when 2 episodes in a series uploaded here are exactly the same.
★ Example: Episode 10 of Naruto is exactly the same as Episode 11
★ Refer to the section below on how to report this error.

    *Other
★ If the error you are getting does not fall into any of the above categories then you can choose this error, refer to the section below for a format on how to report it.

    How to Report Broken Videos
Alright guys, we all know how to report videos but it lacks information almost all the time, this makes it hard for us to determine whether the video is really broken or not. It increases the time it takes for us to check a video and thus it takes longer for a truly broken video to get fixed, so in order for that to be minimized please follow these guidelines when reporting a specific error:

    *Net Stream Error/Video Not Found
★ After trying to refresh and check the video if the video still displays a Net Stream Error you may report the video broken under this option.
    Spoiler for Examples

    *No Subtitle
★ Select No Subtitle as an option on the Please Choose What Kind of Video Error on the drop down menu and on the [Additional Information] Field put the time when the video starts having no subtitles (If from the beginning there is no subtitles just type in the field "From Start"
    Spoiler for Examples

*Audio and Video Not Sync or Subtitle and Video Not Sync
★ Select Audio and Video Not Sync or Subtitle and Video Not Sync as an option on the Please Choose What Kind of Video Error drop down menu and on the [Additional Information] Field put the time where the audio and video or the subtitle and video starts going out of sync. (If from the beginning of the video its already not in sync just type in the field "From Start"
    Spoiler for Examples

*Video Stops/Hangs at a Certain Time
★ Select Video Stops/Hangs at a Certain Time as an option on the Please Choose What Kind of Video Error drop down menu and on the [Additional Information] Field put the time where the video stops. Please make sure that the you didn't just experienced a buffer cut. (Refer to the info on the top)
    Spoiler for Examples

    *No Audio or No Video
★ Select No Audio or No Video as an option on the Please Choose What Kind of Video Error drop down menu and on the [Additional Information] Field put the time where there is no audio or video. (Put From the Start if there is no audio or video from the start)
    Spoiler for Examples

    *Duplicate Episode
★ Select Duplicate Episode as an option on the Please Choose What Kind of Video Error drop down menu and on the [Additional Information] Field put the episode number that should be uploaded.
    Spoiler for Examples

    *Other
★ Select Other as an option on the Please Choose What Kind of Video Error drop down menu and on the [Additional Information] Field place an explanation of the problem regarding the video.
    Spoiler for Examples

    Warning
Please DO NOT create false video reports, we can tolerate false positives but we can also tell if someone is just trolling. We will punish you accordingly if you are caught creating fake reports.

Well there you have it, I hope you guys find this thread useful. I know its long so I know, its kinda "tl;dr" but if you're read through all of it then it would really make it a whole lot easier for the video mods to work on the report section, and its also to get the broken videos fixed ASAP.

PS: This thread will be moved eventually to the right forum but for now I'll be placing it on the announcements for everyone to see.

For recently uploaded animes (e.g. in your chatbar you'll notice "Series XYZ" has been updated and subsequently shown in the front page), you may experience this error if you immediately click on it to view it. Sometimes, you'll need to wait around 10-20mins after the upload before you can start viewing it.

    Video Stops/Hangs @ Certain Time
This sometimes occur due to, let's name it, buffer cuts. Buffer cuts occurs when there's a short, temporary disconnection from the internet. If this occurs when your video is still buffering (i.e. @5:35), the video would seem to have "loaded" all the way. However, when your video reached the actual 5:35 time, you'll notice that the video would end up in an infinite buffering/loading screen. To fix this, just seek a few seconds forward to reload the video again from that point on. However, there are times when an error will appear "Video not found: <long line of url>". To remedy this, just refresh and reload the video again.

Hope this helps to fix some of the most common problems from occurring.

It's true that some of the info there are just repeats from old threads however a lot of people tend to report broken videos without giving sufficient info for us to check, we end up having a long time between checking vids whether they are broken or not.

FYI, most shortened videos will appear within the 2009 and 2010 jan-may++ slot cos there is a server problem which cut the vids by a few seconds. i usually report those under video stops/hangs at a certain time.

you will notice that the video has the ED playing until 21:4x and it will fast forward to the end @ 22:xx minute those should be reported asap if not those videos will be lost forever =o

    http://otaku-streamers.com/watch/3240/ep5-Higepiyo 4:xx
    http://otaku-streamers.com/info/3192...tei_Kiruminzoo near the end
these 2 series are very good examples lolz

other cases include ending screen caps gone.

if you watched fairy tail u will notice that the videos always cut itself before happy and natsu finish their convo. that is supposed a problem from the original subbed video so dont bother reporting those.

    have fun!

This is a fantastic thread Kobowo and the amount of effort put into it is apparent. The only issue I will say is that many members will look at this and think "Too long - Didn't read" and skim through it easily without paying attention to the important information. The amount of members that actually look in the forums is already limited as it is. Unfortunately, I think this is an issue that will stand regardless of how much we stress the importance of video reports. I believe a thread similar to this was made previously and yet our cry was ignored.

In my honest opinion this thread could do with a bit of shortening. Merging both "Different Types" and "How to Report" would make the thread less daunting to new members and more readable. Other than this, your efforts are appreciated and my thanks goes to you for this thread.

*Raises hand to have skim read*
This is something you can expect to happen from time to time. I was here before the server got upgraded, good old website crashes.

Though I must admit, I maybe one of the few lucky ones to never really receive errors when it comes to streaming. Only on rare occasions do I ever get an anime that don't have sync up with the subtitles. I've never had non subtitled ones though which I would find odd if I did.

Still this is a great post to have be made so everyone can have their questions answered providing a more clear of streaming that OS offers. As far as being too long, well Crtl + F can always help someone in finding out the answer.

I'm guilty on the net stream error stuff. But sometimes when refreshing and waiting does not help, that's the time I'm going to report. Then when I refresh it after reporting, the video becomes okay.

I'm actually kinda lucky for not experiencing any errors stated by Kobowo
Sometimes, some errors are just because of the slow net connection or caches.

Btw, Is discoloration considered a video problem? I've encountered one. And because of it, I lost the urge to watch that certain anime movie. I can't recall the title. I've tried to stream it last week.
