What is LINE?

For those who don't already know, LINE is a small messenger application available for Android and iOS devices. It's free (unless you want to buy certain themes or stickers) and easy to download and install.

I think it would be fun to have an OS LINE group ^_^ Some people think the Shoutbox is too restrictive, and the Chatbox is pretty much dead. LINE would be an alternative way to chat with fellow OS users without those restrictions (within reason, of course).

What do you think? Do you already have a LINE account? If not, would you be willing to sign up for one to chat with fellow OS users?

Post your LINE user ID in this thread, and I'll add you to the group. My own user ID is sherryrosalena. Feel free to add me ^_^

My two cents, take them for what you will.

I already use Skype for work/personal stuff, Slack for work, Google Talk for some personal conversations, and Teamspeak for games. If I have to add another instant messenger type at this point, I might go insane. XD

Can we use a more popular IM type for this? I think you've got a great idea in the works, but I'd MUCH prefer a more commonly-used IM method for it.

My vote personally goes to Skype. I know several of the other mods (including JBluey, jeiru01, and Dudette09) already use Skype for the lion's share of their conversations, anyway.

Cheers,

Thanks for replying! Wow, you use a lot of communication applications :D I use Skype on my computer, but it doesn't work smoothly on my iPhone so that's why I didn't recommend it. Plus, there are already several OS Skype groups floating around (as you mentioned). Having yet another one wouldn't really mean anything at this point.

One of the benefits of LINE is that it's primarily a phone app. While it can be used on computers most people use it on their phone. That's why I suggested it. People would be able to chat easily while on the go ^_^ Also, it seems to work seamlessly. I've never had any issues with it.

There was actually already a thread on this (came across it at random..).

http://otaku-streamers.com/community/showthread.php?23231-Hey!-We-got-any-Line-chatters

If there's enough of a userbase to justify using it, sure, I'll get an account. Although a little piece of me will die in the process..

How on Earth did you find that thread?! I did three separate searches and came up with nothing :( Thank you very much for finding it!

An FYI for folks that are interested in this..

I'm finding that you can't register for a user account on the Line IM app on your PC unless you're running Windows 8 or 10 (or at least, that's what their website is telling me), and you also have to link a Windows Live account to it. Since I've got a Blackberry for a phone, I'm finding that most of the notable features of Line IM only work with Blackberry OS versions 5-7 (and the current version is 10 - they're a little behind the tech curve).

Would like to try this app, but it doesn't look like it's a possibility with my current PC/phone setup. Sorry!

Wont making Line OS kill SB? I'm guessing, my concern is how would new comers would know about that? As Lord Duke of OS, Israsuke (please no need me to call me your highness) my role and duty is to make OS the best experience for newbies. At the end its just a concern.

Maybe you all be blissed

This would fall under the same category as the other multiple chat apps that people already use to communicate outside of OS. Simply a different place to talk to people you met on the site or meet new people. For example, groups in skype have been around for years and havent changed the activity in the sb or cb. They are just places to chat when you cant come in OS for some reason or another or find it more convenient to message specific people there, if of course they are using Line. Of course members old and new are free to join if they want.
