Aging Otaku

I'll be reaching the big Three OH! next year, and in answer to the question that is unfortunately still the first to come to mind: No. I don't live in my grandma's basement. I graduated college, got a job, married a wonderful woman. We pay our bills and until we are financially secure enough we won't be adopting children. (Why adoption? is a different thread.)

For at least 15 years I've been into anime the same way I've been into comics: thanks to certain historical/cultural precedents I've been looking for mature/quality content in a kids medium.

I am NOT a nostalgia-addict. The older anime is not inherently better, in fact, I have a lot of respect and hope and even envy for the new generation.

First thing I gotta say that in my opinion you cant be too old for anime at all :P

Cause basically anime is a kind of entertainment that is really close to movies, and you dont stop watching movies, just because you get older, right? ;)

While anime may be considered childish like american cartoons, there are actually many anime with very good story lines meant for older audiences, the unlike programs such as south park and family guy. Anyway, I still be watching anime when I'm 30, so don't feel bad about it :D

Hmmm ... I am around about *vaguely waves hand* sort of, kinda around the same age .... and come from a country where I have still to meet another person who even knows what anime and manga is all about. I first discovered anime while visiting the US in 2007 and then... well ... became a full Otaku.

That said - I work full time, live in my own house with 4 dogs, 4 cats and 1 maid and been travelling to Japan every 2 months on work or so since October 2009. So yeah not all Otaku fall into the stereo type (thank goodness 0_0). I also envy this generation for the opportunities they have and yet dont know if I would choose to be 16 again in the current world environment. I also love the modern anime and manga style thats out although I am a bit disappointed with the lack of deeper story lines in recent times.

Welcome to OS and hope to see you regularly on the forums and chat. We need a few more *cough* mature minds *clears throat* (No offense to our young members who are our life blood - you know we love you)

Well there are all types of people here with a variety of ages and storys but none of that matters coz on OS all that counts is playing nice (mostly) and the ANIME!

Thanks for the smile, everyone. People go on and on about the short attention span of the new geeks, but I have to say I have mostly hope and envy for them, especially with Anime fans. A medium that was once restricted vhs, now something that anyone can get, any time, till their eyes bug out? It's amazing.
