    Default Interesting Ancestors

I was just thinking today how one can have very interesting, if not famous, ancestors. For example, somewhere up there in my family tree, and I mean way up, is Pocahontas. I didn't believe it at first when I read it in our family tree book, and honestly thought it was just name dropping, but we did some tracking through the pages, and low and behold, it fits in there.

Another one I haven't confirmed yet is the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne. That one I find harder to believe than the first one, but I haven't found the time or patience to try and track the ancestors through that book to see if it really does match up. It's a few too many centuries to try and find the links there. Especially with how that book is. It's rather... unorganized, shall we say? And big. It's a big book.

How about you guys? Got any interesting ancestors that you know of?

It is a mystery dispersing altogether, like the moon's faint reflection, with even one pebble of inquiry dropped in its black well. It is the most diabolical riddle of all."

    dang thats cool

    I have no idea
my ancestors are written in... japanese
    and I cant read japan
plus the book is in japan and my grandparents wont let me touch it
apparently the book gets rewritten (hand written) by a buddist priest every number of years
so im guessing its an expensive process and they dont want me messing with it

but i do know my grandparent's house used to be a minature castle-like-thing
every once in awhile my grandma would find an artifact from a long time ago (i have no idea how long) while shes doing some gardening. she donates the artifacts to the local museum

I must say, that's extremely impressive! Especially with that book getting rewritten by hand every so often, and the castle. I'm a sucker for historic stuff.

I wish there were artifacts that I could find that were connected to my family. The closest we have to "artifacts" is a set of silverware that my grandparents or great-grandparents had that has the first letter of our last name on each piece. (I have no idea how far back the family wealth went, but it's a shame we don't have that wealth now... That disappeared during the time of my grandparents, before I was born)

Who knows, maybe one day you'll inherit that book.

its most likely, im the eldest (and a son) and my dad is to inherit it

my grandparents have soooo many artifact things laying around but i cant touch any of it -.-

one of my favorate is a Go board from a long long time ago (the game in my signature). its so old that the lines are worn out.... and apparently my mom played around with the stones (the playing pieces) by throwing them all over the place so now theres no more stones. I was so pissed because I always wanted a genuine Go board. I was "MOM WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, THATS NOT HOW YOU USE THEM!". Shes like "I was a kid"

But seriously, you should check out if you are really related to the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, that would be awsome

Whoa, that's pretty cool. I wish I could trace my lineage down to someone famous.

The only thing I can claim is that I share the family name of China's current chairman. Not much I know :(

There are simply so many of us Chinese people to keep track of.

In my family tree on my grandfather's side is Commodore John Barry, first commander and "father" of the US Navy. I also have relations to King Milesius of Spain through the Barry line.

Then, there's Charles Boteler, who was once arrested by Union troops, who mistook him for John Wilkes Booth (he resembled him).

I'm also related to Charles Shriner, co-founder of French Shriner Shoes, which is still in business today.

A few oddities in my family history, and I mainly know them because my grandfather took the time to track down a lot of people and a lot of information pertaining to his side of the family. On my mother's side is a mystery, since my great-great-grandmother came south on the orphan train from New York and never knew her parents' information.

Wow ... impressive lot of members we have

From my father's side (and part of my mother's since my mum and dad were cousins) we have traced our lineage back to the 16th century from the original settlers who came from Holland as part of the conquering nation to SL and were involved in building the infrastructure in the then undeveloped island. Apparently the first to arrive was a Duke (or its equivalent in Holland) and had a family motto, and shield and crest. Which means he was probably a knight and was involved in some war or the other (blood thirsty ******)

On my mum's father's side (her mother was the sister to my father's father ... have I confused you all?) He was pure Sinhalese and his great-great-grand father was an adviser to the King of Ceylon and also from Royal blood. My mum has a string of names before her actual name which states this and also mentions a "walauwa' name or mansion/estate/castle sort of place. This means her father came from serious money, land / property

Putting all this together ... I often wonder why I am as poor as a church mouse.... so very depressing
