The June issue of Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan has announced that an anime adaptation of the shounen fantasy manga Zetsuen no Tempest: The Civilization Blaster has been green-lit.
Kyou Shirodaira's manga has been running in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan since 2009. To date five volumes have been released, and the sixth is currently scheduled to ship on May 12th. Shirodaira is also the author of Spiral, another shounen-mystery novel that was adapted into an anime.
Shirodaira's story is centered around ordinary high school student Yoshino who has a mysterious friend named Mahiro. After his parents and sister were killed, Mahiro made a deal with a witch named Hakaze to hunt down the culprit(s). When Mahiro goes missing the witch Hakaze seeks out and confronts Yoshino. Soon enough Yoshino finds himself involved in a crisis that may doom the entire world.
Since the official announcement was made an official website for the Zetsuen no Tempest: The Civilization Blaster anime project has gone online. The front page confirms that studio BONES will be producing the adaptation. It is set to premiere in the Fall.

Sunrise to Adapt Sci-Fi Novel Nerawareta Gakuen
According to an announcement in Newtype magazine, Mayumura Taku's Young Adult science fiction novel Nerawareta Gakuen (trans. "The Aimed School") will be receiving an anime adaptation in the form of a movie. Sunrise has been named as the production studio with Nakamura Ryosuke as the director.
Published in 1973, Mayumura's novel takes place in a fictional junior high school named Abeno 6th. Despite being ranked highly in terms of academics, the moral of the students begins to deteriorate due to the stressful atmosphere. Chairperson of the Student Council, the beautiful Takamizawa Michiru, controls the school through force and brainwashing until Seki Koji, one of the students, opposes her iron-fist ruling--that is, until he discovers that there is a psychic boy pulling the strings from behind . . .
Nerawareta Gakuen has already inspired four live-action television drama adaptations and two feature films. Sunrise's new anime adaptation is scheduled for a Fall release.

Cell Phone Game Driland to Receive Anime Adaptation
Kadokawa Shoten's June issue of Monthly Newtype has announced that Toei Animation has begun production on an anime adaptation of Gree's popular fantasy cell phone game Driland.
The game allows players to explore dungeons in search of treasure while using cards to battle any monsters that happen to appear. Reportedly, Driland made more than 2 billion yen (approximately $25.1 USD) in sales in a single month when it debuted.
In addition, a manga is being planned for serialization in Shueisha's Jump Square.
