how come kanade died earlier than otonashi?

Erm, I don't really feel like necro'ing that topic(nearly a year old,) but I see 3 possibilities for why this happened.

1:The order in which people appear there is the reverse of the chronological order in which they died.

2:Yuzuru Otonashi was unable to pass on without knowing he helped someone in life with his sacrifice, and wandered into this section of the afterlife because of his connection to Kanade Tachibana.

3: Part Yuzuru Otonashi's soul lived on in the heart transplanted into Kanade Tachibana, and he was unable to reincarnate fully until her soul passed on.

Part 3 seems like the best answer.

honestly, i didn't notice that! omg

well my speculation about it is his soul wasn't brought to the afterlife
right after he died but after Kanade died although she had a heart transplant
already ...

and among hex's choices, the 3rd seems legit.

but uhh his 2nd choice is quite confusing.

Maybe.. just maybe ... if god exist.... he Put otonashi there .... For Kanade to be able to move on :D

It is also possible that the time of arrival in that world has nothing to do with the time of death. I dunno though I would have to rewatch the series. It has been awhile.
