In July a life-action film adaptation of the popular Japanese manga Rurouni Kenshin will go into production. Warner Brothers will produce the film which is currently scheduled for release in 2012.

At this time the only officially confirmed cast member is 22-year-old Takeru Sato who will be playing the title character. The artist of the manga, Nobuhiro Watsuki, issued the following statement concerning Sato's involvement: "When the project first began, I and my wife were discussing who should play Kenshin, and Takeru Sato was the first person who came to mind. So when it was confirmed [that Sato would indeed play Himura], I was surprised but also very happy."

An all-new animated series has also been confirmed as being in production.

In other news on June 17th it was officially announced by the American premium subscription channel Starz that a live-action adaptation of the classic girls-with-girls series Noir has been green-lit. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will executive produce the series with Stephen Lightfoot as a primary writer.

The number of episodes has yet to be confirmed but new Starz shows are generally granted straight-to-series orders of 8-10 episodes. According to insider reports they have begun scoping out potential across for the lead roles, but it remains to be seen whether they'll look anything like the original characters.

In more surprising news, the August issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Gundam Ace magazine has announced that an anime project of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga will produced. This announcement comes directly on the heels of Sunrise's revelation that an entirely new entry in the Gundam franchise, Kido Senshi Gundam AGE, will air this fall.

Yasuhiko's manga itself is an adaptation of the original Mobile Suit Gundam (the third of its' kind, in fact) who was the character designer of that series. The plot of the manga follows the plot of the original series quite closely.

There has been no word on what this project will be exactly. Many fans are reluctant to hope that it will be anything more than a series of OVAs à la Gundam Unicorn which is still being released.

Ohh, live-action Kenshin...hmm...I dunno if I'm excited or just kinda disappointed.
It might be a smash it, or it can totally ruin it.
Same thing with Noir. But Noir seems more likely to be more manageable as a live-action in my opinion. But we shall see when it comes out! :3

RuruKen is one of the 2 anime that made me love anime... So im actually a little wary of it being turned into a live action movie... I dont see how they will be able to acuratly depict the battojutsu and hiten mitsurugi ryu sword play... That all being said im a fan of the series quite a bit so im still interested :3

「Surprisingly, I actually thought it's another remake for Rurouni Kenshin Series, never knew it's a Live Action. I'm quite Perplexed. Sato needs long hair to play Kenshin Himura. But c'mon, it's Swordplay! I wanna see Sato perform "Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu" Live xD

And I wonder who'll play Kaoru? I bet she's a Real Beauty xD」

Personally I'm excited for both live-action projects (Noir moreso than Rurouni Kenshin though). I have faith that Starz will do an excellent job adapting this foreign property for Western audiences. Not to mention that it has Sam Raimi's backing who, if you ask his fanboys, can do no wrong XD

Oh, and am I the only one who thinks the first cover of Gundam: The Origin is unintentionally hilarious?

They should be announcing that soon, kaifox, so keep an eye out for it ;D

@Ceres

After hearing Samurai X and Noir getting Live (and Hopefully they make right with this one) I was moved with tears :touched:(Especially Noir :goodjob:). Heck Ceres I was so touch that you gave me such good news and so happy that I could marry you . Or I can practically do whatever you may ask of me :bingo:.

Heck if you want I can assassinate some idiotic japanese politician who is breathing nonsense in the anime/manga industry right now . Or I can worship you as a goddess of fortune and be your first monk praying to you always  Or if you want I can be your personal Butler... Oujo sama welcome home .

The RuroKen live action will likely follow the pattern of most anime to live-action adaptations in that it will either work really well or fail horribly, but I guess only time will tell.
As for the anime adaptation of Gundam: The Origin, it actually seems like something for me to look forward to, even though it only seems like it will be 0079 with a few minor tweaks to the story, but with modern-day animation quality (I'm also glad that Sunrise is planning something other than AGE, which, so far, isn't looking good at all). Anyway, The Origin is definitely something I'll be looking forward to, as the Universal Century is my favorite Gundam universe and the thought of seeing all of the original mobile suits with improved artwork is just...

wow that's pretty risky, making a Rurouni Kenshin live-action, but i'm hoping for the best. they do spend a lot on making some anime live-action.

They'll positively ruin Noir if they put slapstick into it. I fear they might, but hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised. It is going to be a though cookie to hunt down a actress for the role of Kirika.

As I understand, Tsuyoshi, the live-action will adapting the manga rather than the anime. I've not read the manga--and it has been many years since I saw the anime--but I've been told that the mood of the manga is much more serious. Kenshin fans, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :)

Considering the history of "original" programming on the Starz channel it's highly unlikely that they'll insert any slapstick into it. I'm not a fan of their Spartacus franchise or the recent (and extremely loose) adaptation of Arthurian legend they dared to call Camelot, but the success of those violent, sexually-charged shows is the reason Noir was greenlit. The source material, in my opinion, shouldn't be that difficult to successfully adapt because it's not exactly dense or psychologically complex.

Sam Raimi has a history of casting actors based more on how they embody the spirit of the character rather than how they physically resemble said character so I don't think anyone should get their hopes up to see a spot-on 3D Kirika. I personally think Mireille would be much more difficult to cast because they could so easily just opt to go for a blonde-haired, blue-eyed bombshell and put her through a few months of training .

The music though . . . without Yuki Kajiura's "Canta Per Me" and "Corsican Corridor" playing in the background it just won't be Noir for me :3

Yea the manga has a much more serious feel to it. Its still a light, comedic, romantic story... But it focuses more on Himura and the action parts of the story while giving insight into his past. A very good portion of the anime is added into it and isnt in the manga, while the manga has an entire extra main arc to it.

I do agree with Ceres with this one. Lets not get to hasty in judging what the Live action Noir will be. Sam Raimi might do some good for the live action. Hollywood has been steadily trying to adjust their concept for live action adaptations. Although not really that perfect or close, but at least they are trying. Lets just hope that this "Noir" will live up to the story more (Oh yeah the body counts per episode :woohehe:).

As for the live Samurai X, It's really great that they actually tried to use a "real" japanese for the main character. I mean Warner Brothers is actually gambling with this. Takeru Sato is only known in asia and even in asia, only few do know him. But doing something like Samurai X wouldn't be off because after all he did some good roles. Most particularly as Kamen Rider Den-O. He also did Bloody Monday and Princess Princess D in which it isn't too bad for him to be cast as Kenshin.

Good, good, seems ruroni kenshin will be made into a movie...
by warner brothers? Now that's got brand name... hopefully it wont be a flop..
but then I hope it doesnt just be a compressed version of the manga..
better if it shows us a new arc...

Sato actually looks good to be as Kenshin in that picture. He might wear a wig though to make it long and it's about set.

I've been like gathering tons of information about the live action 'Rurouni Kenshin' thing for some time now and what I've concluded is that it will become a huge hit when it comes out... well, it is a samurai X franchise after all...lol

Takeru Sato sorta resembles Kenshin but what are they gonna do about the long red hair issue (Extensons??? ... hahaha)
I swear... the swordplay better be as good in the anime or closely depicted from it like Hajime's Katotsu and Aoshi's kaiten kenbu rakuren... Oh wait... I think that I can be pleased just by seeing a live action swordplay of Kenshin's Hiten Mitsurugi.. I mean that would be just the most super duper~est sword technique ever shown in a live action film... *....maniacal laugh.... Hahahaha

If Warner Brothers is the one that will handle it there is a high chance that they wont mess it up... Probably... Look at Ninja Assassin it's a good film with lots of Gore. So we can expect at least a decent movie from them... Probably... :swt:
