Looking for old anime.

Im searching for an anime i saw once when i was still in high school.
It aired on axn, right about the time the aired the english subbed samurai x and other anime, before animax was made.

Its about a heavy metal band saving the universe. the plot... aliens invading the earth and the for some reason the only way to go past their defense is heavy metal music. they band in question has been disbanded for years and the main character is
already a skinny man in his 30's living a somewhat boring unfulfilled life with his wife and kid. he accidentally stumbles on a stage where he reminisces his past glory and plays an electric guitar. i forgot but i think the stage was actually in the ship in the middle of battle where his music actually lowered the enemies fighting capabilities.
so he is now a defender of the earth. but soon his music becomes more n more ineffective so he goes on and looks for the rest of is band. not 100% sure, thats about all i can remember about it and i dont think its entirely accurate.

if anyone can find a list of anime aired on axn-asia it would be nice.
oh and the only other thing i remember about the anime is "black sabbath" i dont know if its the title or not or maybe one of their songs.

You're not talking about Thundercats, are you? They didn't look like samurai, but that's all I can think of with cats and mechs.

here's another one...I saw this over 5 years ago during AXN Asia's anime marathon, but I had to go somewhere that time and I just couldn't remember the title. So here goes: It was about a boy wearing a metal suit of armor that kinda looks like Al Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. I think his grandpa made it for him or he just found it somewhere. I don't know...I'm sorry...this is a little harder than I thought...LoL. Oh well.. :D

EDIT:
He also has strange/animal(???not sure) friends and I think it wasn't a metal suit...it was a robot that looks like Al, but with a tire thingy. There was another robot that went berserk or something. HELP!!!!! Maybe I'm mixing this with a different anime...but guesses will really help a lot. I can look into them. Thanks!
