That would depend on what you want the calendar to do.

Does the style matter more than the features?
Do you just want it for show?

I actually like coding my own desktop gadgets using rainmeter.
I personally like mine but its customized for my resolution so idk if it will fit on yours.

First you need to download rainmeter:
http://rainmeter.net/RainCMS/

Heres some well known rainmeter calenders though:

If you've never used rainmeter and have difficulty, just post again

There is also Rainlendar (http://www.rainlendar.net/cms/index.php) which is a desktop calendar software which allows you to have custom themes, set alarms, set events, save dates, etc.

Although I use Rainmeter more, Rainlendar has saved me a few times due to its event and alarm features.

Themes can also be found on deviantart (http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/calendars/rainlendar/?order=9).

It's not that hard. Just download various skins of your choice from deviantart, install or manually place download file into rainmeter skins folder, and then just select which skins you want to display on your desktop from rainmeter.
