It was first announced in April via Square Enix's bi-weekly seinen Young Gangan magazine that the comedy manga Arakawa Under the Bridge (http://otaku-streamers.com/info/3212/Arakawa_Under_the_Bridge) was going to be turned into a television series and film starring Hayashi Kento and Kiritani Mirei. Now more of the casting has been revealed (http://asianfanatics.net/forum/topic/750695-more-arakawa-under-the-bridge-cast-members-revealed/) along with the official confirmation the the series will debut in July with the film following in the spring of 2012.

Hikaru Nakamura's Arakawa Under the Bridge (http://otaku-streamers.com/info/3212/Arakawa_Under_the_Bridge) was first serialized in Young Gangan back in December 2004. To date the manga has been released in eleven tankobon and remains ongoing. In 2010 studio Shaft hired Akiyuki Shinbo to adapt the material into a 13 episode anime series. Ratings were high enough for the studio to call for a second season, Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge (http://otaku-streamers.com/info/3487/Arakawa_Under_the_Bridge_x_Bridge), which was announced immediately following the end of the first season's final episode.

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arakawa_Under_The_Bridge) offers a succinct plot summary for those unfamiliar with the story of the gag manga:

. . . . Set in Arakawa, Tokyo, the series tells the story of Kou Ichinomiya, a man who has accomplished many things all by himself. Ever since he was little, his father has taught him one rule: to never be indebted to another person. One day by accident, he falls into the Arakawa River and almost drowns. A girl by the name of Nino rescues him and in return he owes her his life. Unable to accept the fact that he is indebted to her, he asks her about a way for him to repay her. In the end she tells him to love her. This is the beginning of Kou's life living under a bridge. However, as Kou starts to learn, Arakawa is a place full of weirdos and all of the people living under the bridge are what society would call, "denpasan" . . . .
The full cast listing has been concealed within spoiler tags due to the length of the list.

On May 19th 2011 it was revealed that TBS has green-lit a Japanese remake of the hit South Korean drama You're Beautiful (http://otaku-streamers.com/info/3503/You%60re_Beautiful) which aired in 2009. The lead character will be played by veteran actress Miori Takimoto. The series is scheduled to debut on TBS in July bearing the title Ikemen Desu ne.

D-Addicts (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/You%27re_Beautiful) offers the following as a summary of the highly popular series:

The management company of the idol group A.N.JELL insisted on adding a new singer to the group as the lead vocal, Tae Kyung's (Jang Geun Suk) voice was hurting. However,the new member, Mi Nam, had to go to the States to repair a botched eye job just before signing the contract. His agent came up with the idea of having his twin sister, Mi Nyu (Park Shin Hye),to stand in for him and pretend that she was her brother. The two of them grew up in an orphanage and Mi Nyu, who was all set to become a nun, agreed to this charade as she didn't want to spoil her brother's chance of fame which would make it easier to look for their mother.

Kis-My-Ft2's Yuta Tamamori will star as the leader of the band in this new adaptation. He will be joined by Hey! Say! JUMP's Hikaru Yaotome as the band's boyish and playful drummer. Taisuke Fujigaya rounds out the cast as the band's guitarist.

It is unknown whether any of the original Korean cast will appear, but fan speculation points to a distinct possibility of Geun Suk making a guest appearance.

I also heard that the Jdrama Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana Kimi) will be remade this 2011. New Japanese cast and a bit modification and improvement on the story. And also, this 2011, there'll be a Korean adaptation of Hana Kimi. I'm so excited for the Hana Kimi Kdrama. :)

No offense but, what I dislike about Jdramas is that... the actors and actresses aren't that good looking. And the video quality is a bit dark compared to Kdramas. It's about the budget perhaps. >_<

This 2011, Skip Beat Taiwanese Live Action will also air. Super Junior members Choi Siwon will play as Ren and Lee Donghae as Sho. Yes, they are imports from Korea. :18:

I'm interested in seeing how they handle a live action of arakawa :o I think they should have chosen a slightly more handsome guy for Ric since he is supposed to be "Perfect". It looks like they're putting their own twist on Stella but it doesn't look too bad. I wanna see who's going to play Hoshi and the Mayor >.<

I've heard about Japan's new HanaKimi adaptation. It's supposed to debut in July on Fuji TV with AKB48's Atsuko Maeda as the lead. As far as I know they haven't made any other casting announcements though. When they do you can be sure that I'll make a post about it.

I must have missed the announcement about Korea doing their own version this summer as well. I'll admit to being more excited about that than I am for the Jdrama. There are always exceptions, of course, but I tend to share your opinion concerning Jdramas, CloverLeaf. But then I've always had an intrisic attraction to Korean men so . . . yeah, my opinion is a bit biased XD Except for shows like Kimi wa Petto and Hotaru no Hikari I generally prefer Kdramas (or even Tdramas for that matter). I <3 You're Beautiful and just can't imagine them replacing Jang Geun Suk with anyone else x_x

And hooray for the Taiwanese adaptation of Skip Beat!! I remember when it was first announced years and years ago (2007? 2008?) but then was "postponed" indefinitely. I'm so excited that they apparently finally began filming last month. Oh, and just to add to your casting list, Ivy Chen will be playing the the main character Kyoko ^.^

@Topic

I just hope they do justice for Arakawa. AUB is one of my favorite series most especially the Kou and Nino combo. They really blend with each other and the way Nino and the people of the Bridge turns Kou's world upside down is hilarious. But in all of this we all see that the people there are not really what they seem. All of them has given up something that most of us common folk would want in exchange for a simple yet free life under the bridge. Although they still have ties with their formal lives we can see that the simple and most of the time hilarious way of life are the thing they much prefer way of living. A thing that actually rubs on Kou as the story progress. So hopefully the live action will stay the same and not tarnish the AUB series.

@Cloverleaf

KDrama is actually more influenced in the western style of presentation. Heck most things Korean do are influenced by the western civilization. Japan's main fault is the fact the way they see their culture. If you do research about them, although western civilization has influenced them, their natural inclination to their own culture or I should say their own brand of uniqueness is what greatly influenced their work. This also includes things like accepting what is natural given to you. Not all Korean actors/actresses or even K-pop groups and singers are not what they all look like now. Most of them have gone into great changes to make themselves look better or to have that perfect body in order to achieve what most people now this days as "Perfect". Fancy good looks and sexy bodies what can you ask for more right? The ironic part, most of the methods used in this processes actually came from studying in Japan. The era of competition of having good looks ended when the days of "Idols" died out in japan. Nowadays, Since the boom of the Anime and game industries in japan people really don't care about the looks but rather the talent of the guy or girl they are trying to idolized who inmost cases are either seiyu artist or done a song for an anime or game. Look at Mya'n of Macross, She's good and her looks are not bad but her popularity sky rocketed when she did macross f. To make it short in the Japanese culture, its all about Anime and games. If you can connect something real with an Anime or Game in japan, then most probably you will get popular even if you don't look good, while in Korea looks really are needed most especially because this artist represents Koreans.
