The Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara mission to ruin the Japanese anime industry continues on - this time the old man stated on a live interview broadcast by NicoNico Douga that the quake induced cancellation of the industry "served them right" for daring to complain about his constant attack on their freedom of expression.

His comments were as follow:

“I wasn't sure what the major publishers were paranoid about….There was the Anime Fair…but, they said, "We will not go and will hold [another anime event] at Makuhari." Then, the earthquake happened. Both were cancelled. [I thought] they deserved it. ”

Thought Ishihara happends to be the chairman of one of the so called events, TAF, which is something he seems disinclined to bother acknowledging after his use of the industry is at an end.

The other comments were focused on questions about the Internet, otaku, mangaka, homosexuals, young people and of course,..foreigners.

Ishihara has a history of saying controversial comments, including his complaint that "we've got homosexuals casually appearing even on television." Ishihara made that comment last December during the debate over revising the Youth Healthy Development Ordinance. Ishihara then commented in March that the tsunami was "divine punishment" for Japan's "selfishness." Yutaka Yamamoto, the director of the Fractale and Kannagi anime, had responded by saying that no divine punishment would indiscriminately affect innocent people and that Ishihara was not qualified to characterize Japan. Ishihara later apologized for his comment.

Tokyo re-elected Ishihara to a fourth term in April. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government also presented the first six titles under consideration for the expanded "harmful publications" designation that same month. The revised ordinance goes into effect on July 1.

Instead of criticizing "This Anime", why not think of a better plan on improving the current situation of Japan, particularly in Fukushima, and helping his fellow japanese people. It doesn't look like Ishihara will stop. Sooner or later,you'll see riots break out in Akihabara,something along the lines of that. I really think that the situation won't get any better with all these negative statements from him and the bans the government places on anime will only continue.
If it comes to the breaking point,people will need to stand up to him and will. Anime fans in the U.S and other anime influenced countries are all pretty much raging up to this moment. I don't think there's anything to do that will catch the government's attention other than protesting and basically,standing up. It's a rule of bystanding. Let me do a little summary on what they were talking about in the vid.

First off, from what I understood he was talking about extreme hentai manga, not anime.
What he said was "I'm not saying that you can't do that [make extreme hentai manga], I'm just saying don't put it in the reach of children."
Hes talking about how easy it is for children to just pick one in a store and read a few pages.
The other guy goes on to say that they should at least put it out of the reach of children and put a thin plastic wrap around the manga so that you have to buy it in order to read it.

At the end he says something more to the effect of "See what you get". Not exactly "They deserved it".
