Hi

We see a lot of messages and videos about saving the planet and we all think we need to do something but then either we never get around doing so or we dont get the opportunity

My country is not set up to be very energy efficient or re-cycle friendly, so this thread is to share ideas on how we can do something in our little way to be more environmental friendly.

I am ashamed to say that all I have really done in the recent is take my own cloth bags to the grocery stores instead of using plastic, but thats about it.

So pls share your thoughts of what you guys are doing and maybe we can copy them as well :1:

i have a suggestion why don't we do air hour... we should not breath for 1 hour to make our air clean...

What does not breathing do any good to the environment? =/

Hey ... I was hoping to have one serious thread since there are so many silly ones out there... so lets try to keep it real, ok?

@zevlag
we can die from it...not breathing for 1 minute already hard...

well, I'm not really sure, but I usually try to avoid using air-conditioner as long as I can..

lol.. u even put down admins Dx im very much scared of wut other powers aside from the laser eyes uve gained since goin up to supp pink admin @_@

on subject tho.. this can depend on ur peers support for "going green" as well but some "going green" 101s are..

Use Daylight (dont turn on lights if its past 8:00am.. open the curtains)
switch from Air conditioning>Ceiling Fan>opening windows if possible
refrain from using canned Sprays.
get a hybrid car?.. ( >_>.. desperate options any1?)
turn off computers (sleep mode still uses energy)

these are just a couple i know.. i would have to look up a list for the more obscure ones.. like plant a tree everyday or something >_>..

I recycle my papers, plastic, and glass. We have this big, fat cardboard box that we toss all our recyclables in.
The city gives us two giant trashcans (normal garbage can and a recyclables only can) that gets taken away every week.
I do that and various other things (like shopping bag, water/electricity conserve, and we have 2 hybrid cars).

We here in Texas love the environment.

You know biogass/fuels is good for mother nature unlike using the exhaust emission.
But recycling, throwing the trash properly **not elsewhere >:[, conserving water and electricity and avoiding in using CFC's will do =D and planting more trees is good too ^^

We use biofuel for most of our cars. My dad hasn't agreed to use it on his yet.
I recycle my papers and use them for scratch. They come really handy with my Math HWs xD. Hmm. We don't buy the "go green" bags in supermarkets. They use oxo-biodegradable plastic bags, which we reuse now and then.
We don't turn on the lights until around 5:30 - 6:00 pm.
I try my best to attend those tree-planting and river cleaning activities. Last time I did one of those was around 4 months ago xD.
We also segregrate our trash, and sell those which can be sold in recycle centers and junk shops.
Nothing complicated, really. A lot of people I know do it :).

Why? Does it has some bad effects? xP Just curious. =]
But honestly, I don't like using the exhaust emissions because they are one of the cause of air pollution >_> and I think the thinning of the ozone layer?

i keep all of my scratch paper and use it for origami.. i hope that helps lol

i conserve water and save electricity, it became a habit after awhile.. i walk most of the time when im going somewhere near (mainly because i dont have a car, but if i did i still wont use it much). i throw all my candy wrappers in the trash, which is alot.

I live in one of the countries with the highest amount of sustainable energi..
However the credit for that dosn't befall me, so overall I'm not doing enough for mother earth even though I never litter and try to conserve power

Nice ....

Felderance : I have always been like that - that the reason the Admins gave me the promotion.. they were terrified of me :4:

Solidoxygen : I have read that Texans are very serious about re-cycling - cool.

Russ : All I could think when I read your post was ... even if you had a solar powered car, you would still walk. LOL I envy you your stamina!!

I guess reading the posts, I remembered I have heaps of trees and plants planted in my garden - its beginning to look like a jungle and when people as me why I dont trim and neaten it - I always give the excuse that I am trying to do good by the environment :4:. I also try not to print anything at work unless I have to and re-use paper when I do.

Hmmmm....

Hmm, unfortunately can't call myself that much of an environmentally person... not that I think about polluting as a hobby but just don't really consider the environment on a daily basis. Though I find in conserving other issues the environment is helped, reusing scrap paper for notes, not using plastics because of carcinogens, becoming vegetarian is also supposed to be good for the environment, it seems the amount of food required to feed an animal for slaughter could be used to feed many (I forget the actual figure...)

Mainly because it's fun I cycle or walk instead of driving, also drive a gas stingy car. I guess there are all sorts of things that one can do, but it seems to come down to lifestyle choices more than anything else.

K, actually I should note some things about Sri Lanka I've observed in relation to pollution and environment. Coming from Canada it definitely seems like Sri Lanka has a greater problem handling garbage, though a greater percentage of it is biodegradable (coconuts being the most visually identifiable :) Canada is pretty clean but given that there is a loooooooooooooot more empty space (Canada is 52 times the size of Sri Lanka and has only about 30% more in terms of population) there is the use of land fills at a scale Sri Lanka isn't capable of.

Sadly the biggest threat to the environment in SL are the officials who are supposed to protect it.... hmm, I think I'm getting off topic...

Anyway ... another way to be friendly to the environment is not to buy prepackaged or processed foods. Cutting down the amount of packaging and processing that is used on the food you eat cuts down waste and is better for ones health.

I rummage through my trash & find anything thats made out of recycable material & I put it in the recycable bin :]
I also turn off the lights until its too dark for me to see, I turn the computer screen off when I'm not using my computer & if I go out for more than an hour I turn my computer off.

I'm also collecting plastic bottles for money, so if I see some lying on the street I just pick them up & take them home.

When I'm brushing my teeth, I turn off the water while I'm not using it. Same goes for when I'm in the shower, washing dishes, washing vegetables etc.

I also have a cat, so I use enviromentally-friendly cat litter :3

We recycle plastics/paper ect
We dont own a car so its either walking or the bus
We use bags for life

I even have my bedroom light And its light outside :(
I'll turn it off now :)

and i posted my pic just for this thread..,

well

i think all we can do to save the earth is:

to Pick Up Every Small Garbages We See on our way...

and to have AN EARTH's DAY EVERYMONTH...

Earths' Day= All Electricities are Turned Off :)
...

well thats my point of view xD

Ha ha. Just kiddin with my last post.
Actually, I don't know.
I never smoke nor drink, nor do I contribute to the world's destruction very much since I don't drive (I only walk, run, or use my bicycle).
So I guess my very existence helps. =)

I'm not sure if this was mentioned already. My idea was to put batteries to their respective recycling depot as well as for other electronics that you're not using. It would save the environment by preventing the leaks of our technology. Batteries and other electronics has many poisonous ingredients in them that should not be disposed at our normal garbage can. Please make sure to check the label or the internet about the object before disposing it normally.

Turn lights off when they are not used. Some electronics around our household still absorb energy from the outlet. To prevent this, pull the plug so that you save energy as well as money.

lol, zevlag, If we die from not breathing, then we will die
we will be buried in a cemetery. then
we will have death certificates. then those death certificates
are made from trees, which are part of nature..

anyway...

here:
I will try not to open my aircon, If the heat is bearable
I will put my trash in the right place.
I will minimize the use of paper(except when I'm in the CR)
I will try to recycle.
I will use shopping bags instead of plastics..
I will try to those listed above..

^^

TRY TO WALK!

hahah. i mean, if you can walk and you're not in hurry. you will not ride any vehicles. It will lessen the pollution around us... plus walking is kind of exercise! hehehe...

And use the biodegradable system.. :D

Our country isn't so upbeat about environmental awareness application in real life. We're just fed with slogans, posters, statements, and fashion about it...and that's it!

I confess that I'm not really doing a major part in saving the planet. Although I'm a nature photography hobbyist, I only have the passion, but not the action...what I only do is that I throw the trash properly (which is pretty senseless since they are all thrown regardless of whether they are biodegradable or not into a one big dump site).

Here's my tip: Don't believe some businesses claiming their plastic bags are biodegradable. There is no such thing as biodegradable plastic. Plastic are all the same. They are all made from petroleum and decay only after hundreds of years...long after we all have broken down to a simple mash of amino acids...Use cloth bags for buying stuff...

I put a liter water jug inside the top part of the toilet so that it uses less water when it flushes. Also during the winter we don't use the heater that often because you can just put on more clothes( There is a limit to how many layers you can strip off in the summer though).

I joined a cleaning group 3 weeks ago, we were picking up trash that was littered on the parks and such... I kept telling myself that it wasn't punishment since public cleaning is mostly a sign of punishment...hahaha

I filled 3 large sized trash bags and recycled an old tire... (don't ask what I did with it...lol)

Think Positive maybe,

Recycle garbages, instead of throwing them, and if willing to throw them, then throw the trash at the Proper Place.
Conserve Electricity and Water. and Do our best to never waste them.
