Today it really hit me that on Wednesday we are going to put our dog to eternal sleep. I started crying at work. Thank goodness I was alone. Why is it so hard to let your pet go? Just now I feel I'm going to grieve as much as I did when my mom died, which is kinda absurd. How do you feel when losing a pet you love?

2 years ago my friend's pet dog died and she cried so much during our P.E. class. I didn't understand why she did that just for a dog. And now I've been raising my pet dog, I understood what my friend felt. Even the thought that my dog would die someday, it breaks my heart that I would just burst in tears [although I was just imagining it]. I understand you Cherrie *hugs* It'll take a long time for you to recover, but you have to know that everyone/everything in earth has their own limits ;-;

Its feels natural to feel such an attachment to a pet. Especially if that pet is considered one of the family. If you love a family member so much no matter what type he is. You tend to love him all the same. Even if its a pet. So its natural to grieve for your love one then.

Thanks for comforting me. You have really helped :3 I think I just have to cry my eyes off until the pain goes away. But I know I will always miss him~

It is so sad that your pet died..well if someone close to me dies, of course its natural for me to cry because on that time we are thinking that we will never see him/her again. So for me, I'll cry and cry til my heart is telling me to be calm..Have you noticed that after crying we feel so relaxed in someway? So, I'll cry until my body is telling me to relaxed.

The passing of someone/something you love will always leave an effect.
It sucks putting down animals but I suppose that it's better than suffering.

When I was still young (sometime in my High school years) I had a dog named Brownie since I was at least 6. Brownie was my longest pet, I can even still remember the times when I dressed it up like a horse... :P
Then one fateful day arrived when we moved to a new house that Brownie got lost. I always new that adapting to a new environment was gonna take a while but I think I got reckless and never attached a collar.
The next day was literally hell for me at that moment. After I spent hours looking for him in the neighbored, I find that it got ran over by some F@#$%* car. I cried all night that day hugging my pillow as if it was Brownie.
So yeah, I handle losing a pet by crying all night....

I got really sad when my pet died and cried a lot, I think it's natural for those people who really love their pets. Pets are friends although they don't talk to you somehow you can understand them and somehow you feel they understand you as well.

I know how you feel cherrie I also cry when a pet of mine dies. But don't worry, as long as you know that you took care of your pet well, his life here on earth had been a happy one. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My very first dog named Spotty is also my most loved dog of all. (Oh I'm remembering him again T^T) So there one awful day I couldn't find him at all anywhere inside and outside of our house. I kept looking for him and calling his name in our neighborhood. Then the next day, I found Spotty near a tree with rope around its neck, his eyes were all white already and he was dead. :( I think some good for nothing people made fun of him and Spotty ended up being killed. :(( I couldn't take Spotty seeing in that kind of state and tears came bursting from my eyes and I cried and cried and cried in front him. We buried him and yeah I was still crying that day. But I guess the next day I was fine already but I was missing him so bad. I miss how he welcomes me everytime I got home from school. >_<
That's awful! I just don't understand those people who see something fun killing someone's pet. They should be punished for what they did~
I've been feeling bad even physically, because I'm so sad. I really feel like vomiting (like vomiting the sadness out). Today at work I also realized that I haven't cried and just burst into tears when the thought of not being able to see him anymore hit me. After crying I felt a little better already~
It's always so horrible when a child dies. They should be so full of live, laughing and playing~ I really hope he's happy now~
My mom died of cancer almost 4 years ago. Now the pain is gone, but I'll always be missing her. It's always like that - the pain fades away, but the sorrow and missing will stay in your life forever.
That is just natural. I also lose one of my pet and I am depressed in the whole week since I do not want to cry in front of somebody so I just keep it to myself. When you lose somebody/thing you love or sentimental to you it will be the cause of your mourning or depression. It is hard to lose them because you love them but that is life we know that we will die someday too.
I don't think it's absurd, it's just a normal reaction when you're loosing something you really love
Most people see pets as part of their familly, so it is like if you were loosing a brother or something similar, specially in the case of a dog, which spends many years with its owner
I, for example, spent 3 years of my life crying over my dog each time I thought about it
Though that amount of time isn't normal (I have a serious issue facing death) is a normal thing to do when your pet dies
its almost like losing a family memeber or a child because you raised them and watched them grow so it hurts just as much when they go.
Losing anything that is really important to you will make you feel upset - it could be your favourite picture or it could even be a close friend. Many of these things are irreplaceable but it's always important to know that life goes on and once something, or someone, is gone to the extent of death, we have to keep going.
My hamster, Mocha, was a very precious friend of mine :') When I owned him, I was a very reserved person and was very shy; I was anti-social and refused to make many friends. So, when Mocha came into my care, I found all that pent up love pouring out for him! I loved him with everything in me and took care of him like he was my own child. When I went to feed him one day, I found that he had passed away with old age. I was surprised and shocked by how upset I was. I honestly cried and it takes a lot to make me of all people cry. Many people thought it was ridiculous that I would cry over such a thing but that connection I formed with him was very strong.
Be strong! Your dog being put into eternal rest must be for some good reason. He will be in a much better place in less pain and sickness after he moves on!
I didn't euthanize her, but i can take a rough stab at the way you're feeling. I remember when my cat Yuri died. She was just a sweet little fat-ass cat.
...okay, not little. I think her breed was referred to as the "Rag Doll." But she was still my entertaining little dope, loved to stalk me whenever i blew my money on Arby's or made popcorn, had a conditioned hatred for pens and attacked me whenever i was doing homework, and had a strange habit of running into doors. Died tragically at the age of 8 when my parents prayers couldn't will ivermectin out of the ether. It was a depressing time, i can honestly say i preferred her company to the company of any person i knew at the time. I miss that sweet little dip!@#$...
Thats sad.
I guess its a normal reaction when a pet died.
Especially when you consider him/her as a friend or part of the family.
I think I'll be sad when my love birds die >X(
I remember when my favorite cat in the whole world died when I was a child. It was a night I'll never forget. It was a full grown, beautiful light grey cat, with cool green eyes that we had raised since we found it on the street as a little kitten. Was a fine, brave cat.
But on a Halloween night, some stupid, drunken teenagers decided our cat was a "black cat" and ran it over at high velocity. I did not witness the event with my own eyes, but when I recieved the bad news that he was lying outside of our home, broken and all, I was in complete shock. He was still alive, meowing faintly. Then he smiled at me, and drew his final breath. Stranger was that about 10 cats came rushing and crying in anguish. Seemed like something from a sad movie really.
But the next day, we dug a four-foot hole in our backyard, put him in a wooden box with cushions, created a makeshift grave out of brick, with two wooden planks for a cross [we had very little money back then]. On the gravestone, it read "In memory of our beloved, Shade".
I mourned him, and as years went by, I just knew he was there waiting for me in the afterlife.
I lost a cat recently. Adenocarcinoma doesn't discriminate and appears in quite a few mammals.
...or at least that's what Shiki told me. Still, it's never easy letting a pet go. Somehow the fact that they can't tell you when they're sick and you often don't notice early signs or dismiss them makes the depression mix with guilt. At least as a side-effect my sister quit speaking to me. That's always a plus when "In grief" becomes a legitimate excuse to avoid a sibling you haven't gotten along with since 2004.
