i can say it does improve my English a bit,
because there are certain words in the subtitle, that force me to look in dictionary.
although for me..
it does teach me how to talk correctly when i'm going to talk in English..so mostly it improve my oral.

but i must say, i don't follow 100% how the subtitle does say in English, because sometimes i found grammatical error. well not to much..that it effect the peoples who reading the subtitles.

if i want to improve more in my writing, i use what i learn from my English teacher at school.
i'm sorry if there is any mistake here.

Yes, it does help... for your vocabulary to be widened and to fix your grammatical errors in ENGLISH. The only thing thats not gonna be learned much is how you would SPEAK in straight, pronouncing the words properly. A lot of people speaks in English like their tongue gets twisted and stuff.

I do learned English and widened my vocabulary watching Anime but I learned speaking it from my friends who are English Speakers. Thats how you will improve your accent (by practicing speaking it). I am a Filipino but I can say a lot of Filipinos have a very bad accent.

My first language is welsh but I generally know english quite well so it does help me kind of in some aspects but other than that not really cause Im surrounded by people who speak it XD but Im sure it helps for people who dont speak english at all the only thing that would be able for some anime is that their sentence structures are wrong or their grammar so it might delude people into thinking that how you said that particular phrase when you dont bahah :P

Only a little. The subs doesn't have any depth in English language to widen my vocabulary. I mean, the things written as subs are like casual conversations among people who converse in the English language so it doesn't really help... :)

Nope for me it doesn't but it helps with my reading skills XD I used to read slow but I can say that my reading speed really has improved from watching all the subbed anime...

Usually its posting in the forums that help improve my grammar or at least keep my english skills in check...

2nd to 4th posts in this thread, i do agree and 2nd to last is ftw. It does improve your reading skills and i sometimes wonder if what would be the voice actors if this anime is dubbed? I do sometimes encounter grammar problems also spelling so i am worried while i am making manga. I do create tagalog and english dialect manga and attempting to do also chavacano, a half spanish dialect. If anything goes to maelstrom go to mr.oxford.

Well watching subtitled anime can also help with the inverse, which is learning Japanese, although there are times when the English is translated incorrectly for the sake of subs. Other than that, it helps increase my vocabulary, understanding, and grammar c:

Yes anime subs does help me improve my English skills. Actually because of those subs I'm able to know a lot of words I'm not familiar with before (since I look it up in my encarta dictionary every time there is a word I encounter in some anime which I'm not familiar with) so my vocabulary widens step by step. ^^

I guess I would say it does help in a way, though I grew up around my sibling's who already knew more english than I. One thing I wanna point out about some subtitled animes, is that if you think about it, not all english subtitled animes are correct. Sometimes the subtitles are wrong, or they use the wrong type of word. (Ex. they use "there" instead of "their") Also, there are sometimes typos in the subtitled animes too. Though there are times when if I don't know a certain word that they use, I'll have to use dictionary.com .... ahhaha. So, it's good for learning more vocabulary.
