I know... We are all sick of this...

You will notice that these past few days, there is an increased number of violators, non English speakers and trolls in the Shoutbox. We recruited new moderators last year to control the Shoutbox and prevent the situation to worsen but it seems that it isn't enough. We also realized that recruiting more moderators isn't the solution.

I had a meeting with jbluey, avich and Bindu1000 earlier after what happened this morning in the SB and we came up with a solution. The Shoutbox, in a few days, will be only available for VIPs (our wonderful donators), the moderators and for special deserving members only. Other people don't care about the Shoutbox anyway. And Jim said that it will also help to lessen the server load.

How can you get selected as a special member?

You have to explain by replying on this thread on why are you deserving to use the Shoutbox in exactly five sentences only. No more, no less. Those posts which exceeds or less than five sentences will be automatically disqualified. All the posts will be moved to the Staff Inn where we can discuss if you are really deserving or not. All the posters of irrelevant stuff in this thread will be automatically disqualified as well.

I apologize if you are offended or you disagree with this. Please don't blame the admins, I am the proponent of this new rule. We don't want to limit the number of SB users as much as possible. The admins are busy and can't handle the stuffs in the SB always. You may notice that they sometimes can't fix errors on videos immediately due to their tight schedule. And the moderators are not always around. Sorry, but we moderators are not robots.

Please expect that we will be more strict and less considerate about the transgressions in the SB.

Note:
1.) The members will be only given three days to post in this thread.
2.) The users who will violate in the Shoutbox within the three days period of selection will be automatically disqualified.

The reason why I should be allowed to still be able to chat in the shout box is that, I've never violated the rules too much. And if I had I fixed my internet etiquette immediately. Besides whenever there are no mods or admins in the shout box I willingly tell the violators to follow the rules. Unlike the others I use the shoutbox whenever streaming is low or as the welcoming wagon for the newbies. Also I've helped a lot of Os peoples who needed help with the site.

Even though I have violated some rules such as; cussing in the shoutbox, etc, I know when to act mature. Seeing as I'm kinda new to Otaku, I realize that my opinion may not be a valid one. What I can do is promise you that I will act accordingly, in a way, that would please the rules of Otaku. I do apologize to anyone I have offended in anyway by breaking any of these rules. In this sentence of Biak911, is the same reason i wanted to tell. I used shout box whenever there is advance update or some friends i wanted to chat. I gained some friends in SB whenever I feel wanted to share something or shout something. I wanna be part of SB so that I can see some people chat that I can talk to or to fit in. :)

I read and follow the rules here in OS. I speak English and if ever I'm using my dialect I support it with a translation below so anyone can understand it. I give comments and suggestions about anime and the such to OS members who are asking one. And most importantly I chose my words carefully! I think i should be allowed to continue to use the sb since i never broke the rules and i'am always avaiable to help people in need regarding animes. I've a lot of knowledge about animes and so i can answer almost any question about them, that if it's required. I'am not a donator nor an uploder i'am only an otaku :p but i really enjoy chatting about animes while watching them or while waiting for the slow up. I don't know what appened to make you guys this angry but i think there are other metods to stop this people.

The reason for why I should be allowed to have access to the Shoutbox is because I have always been a loyal member of this commuinity and have never disgraced the commuinity by disobeying the regulations. The shoutbox is something that although many people don't use, I do, it is my source of commuincation and how I personally get involved in the community (I use it more than the Chatbox). I love reading the random messages/shouts from familiar names everyday I find that they make me happy to know that we have such a range of different religions and cultures and even though we all have different aspects we show no direspect to one another. Lastly, the reason for why I should be considered a "special memeber" is because most of the time when someone is violating the rules of OS I do give in my input and do my best to stop it. Sometimes, my methods don't work but overall I really do try and be a good person to help the OS commuinity.

The reasons that I should be allowed to join the "special" group that will continue to be able to use the SB are as follows.
Reason 1, I am an uploader and the SB makes the task of coordinating uploads easier.
Reason 2, I am friendly and nice the majority of the time and even when I am having a bad day I limit my interactions so that I don't offend people.
Reason 3, I help people with problems they are having with the website by means of the SB already and I will continue to do so.
Reason 4, I can't really think of OS as being OS if the SB is no longer accessible or just completely gone.

I would like continued access to the SB because I offer a older Otaku's POV on alot of things. I am friendly and can offer advice on many topics. When a Mod or Admin is not visible I assist many of the older posters enforce the rules. And last but not least most everyone that has interacted with me in the SB can attest I can answer almost any question put forth if it lies within my skillset.

Why should I have access to the shoutbox?
Being a frequent visitor to OS I wish to participate in the community aspect of this site, however I do not have the time to follow the forums and watch videos. I use the shoutbox every time I settle down to watch a show, alternatively to simply checking for updates, and often participate in discussions, debates and the "what anime is this from...?" game.
As for a more productive use of the shoutbox, that I frequently join in providing recommendations as well as asking for some in order to share or find out about more obscure anime that are either forgotten or far from being mainstream (like Oruchuban Ebichu) which I see as being more valuable than the common daily discussions such as "OMG I luv OnePiece".
But most importantly, we can't let the greens, orange and purples rule the shoutbox we need some whites thrown into the mix to keep it interesting (this may not make sense, I just needed an extra sentance).

I think I should be able to go on the shoutbox because I'm friendly, I know the rules of the SB. I know that I'm not really active on it, but that practice my English, since I'm not a Native English speaker. With it, I've learn 2~3 words. When I post, it is because I have a response about a question, like "When the new season of **** come out?" Sorry if you don't know I am saying right now, but that's why I want to be on the SB, and practice my English at the same time.

this is quite a surprise..i guess the "volcano" has finally erupted..i will be completely honest, i'm RARELY use SB, yes, but i will give my reasons why i need SB..(i might give a long reason, well you can reconsider it or disqualified it..it's ok)
1. anime recommendation. even though i know there is a thread for it, it is useful BUT to check each one in the thread to find which suit your taste is time consuming. Having someone in SB posted a link in SB can be a shorcut to it as they will definitely recommend a good one.
2. video buffering. sometimes there will be times when buffering take a very long time, rather than wait for nothing, randomly chat with someone in SB will make me forget about those slow buffering..and get some friends
3. any question ask regarding anime and stuffs can be answer in real time. i can make a thread for it but it would take time to get a response.

To perfectly honest the shout box is that, i like to be able to easily communicate with members. I've been with Os for a while now and i have seen the Jerkoffs that abuse the previlege. Plus that is how i think of the shout box as, as a privilage. I have always tried to end disputes in the past, and wish to continue to do so. I think the SB should be off limits to those who have less than 30 posts on the forums. I mean, if they are not good willing it will show on the forums how they fare... and if they do not behave they will most likely end up banned before they get that privilege. I personally don't care about the SB... just saying, because I've only noticed "gray named" users insult others.

I believe that I am a positive addition to shout box conversations, when I do intrude. I think it is a great resource that allows instant feedback and I believe the way I handle myself on the shout box shows I can handle myself. I will obey all rules on the shoutbox. It is one of the things that sets this website apart from others. As a member who has been here for a while, I would greatly appreciate it if my privileges weren't take from me, even though I'm not a constant Shoutbox user. You see, I do have a couple friends here I chat with on certain occasions, but I never use the chat box, so it would be horribly irritating to not have these privileges. You won't see any large rise in your Shoutbox activity, either, since I don't use it a lot. I believe that I always follow the rules and regulations of the OS site not only the Shoutbox. I always show a considerable amount of respect toward the admins, mods and my fellow members even though I sometimes jest. The SB is my primary means of communicating with the other users since forums posts are less conversational and the chatbox is practically dead (based on my experience). I'm cheery and a fun person to talk to, I know I am. I stayed in OS long enough to be an OS Citizen.

I would like to be a special member because the shout box really helps me out whenever I want to express myself and share it to others. Secondly, I can't say that I do not violate the rules but I do not do it on purpose. I sometimes do it accidentally but not to the point that I am bothering others. This is not a reason why I wish to continue use of the SB, since I'm not a donator, or an uploader. And I hardly ever use it, so what's the point in having something I never used anyways? It's interruption from my viewing pleasure of shows.

However, given my time here, I've come to agreement that members, newer ones are at best 75% responsible, are causes to why there's much discord in regards to the SB. Many reasons why is exactly as you've said, CloverLeaf. Not only is it because of trolls, failure to adhere to rules and language barriers, is to blame, but also in some part, us older members (some I could name but keeping it anonymous) are also responsible for the actions we take. So all in all, I personally agree to what you're saying. I also see validated reason to why it should be for donators only because they are aiding in upkeeping this place.

All in all, I wouldn't mind if I wasn't allowed to see/use SB in the first place, it's only distracting me and for as much as I've seen nothing but nonsense on there, it's well worth it to shut it down to where only donators could use it. At the same time, I'm hoping they also adhere to the rules and such.

I have only twice violated the rules(both times were by mistake) and immediately fixed my ettiquette. also I am a long standing member of OS, since January 2009, and have never intentionally flamed anyone, infact its quite the opposite as I try to be a busybody ;) and calm down the flaming in a completely non-aggressive manner. I enjoy watching what people are talking about, even though i dont join their conversations. It helps me in some ways like If sumbody else gets an error in vids im streaming or sumthing, I get to know more animes that are interesting, and when I get buffering problems. I do not and will not Flame/curse or flame bait. When CB is dead or inactive I go to SB and I get to know more people. I also help people in some ways and warn them when they break some rules.

I would like to retain access to SB because it is a light social aspect of OS. Without SB access, there isn't much reason for me not to switch sites. I'm still a bit new to this particular site, so I haven't hit up forums very much, but use of SB to talk while streaming was what set OS apart from the others I had been to. This seems a bit extreme, but if the problems with streaming are as bad as you say, then something needs to be done. Maybe a more accessible rule list (if someone knows enough English to read subtitles, they can read a little regulations box)?

Well I don't chat as much as many others at the SB (or CB) despite that I'm always readin' what's goin' on and if I have something useful to say I say it, and sometimes there are ppl who have questions or need help with somethin' (includin' myself sometimes...). So IMO this measure will be kind of "unfair" for us OS members who don't break the rules... And I'm saying this instead of reasons to be picked for the use of the SB cause I don't think I'll be picked for it(Why? Cause I'm not as "well known" as others, I'm not an OS VIP, etc...), even though I've never broken a single rule of the SB or OS in general. Ok, here is the reason I think I should be able to use the Shoutbox.
I am a regular viewer and like to ask questions about anime i don't understand.
I have never had a problem with the rules for the shoutbox and don't foresee any in the future.
I only use it to ask questions of others about anime and think that restricting the ability to search for answers, while may be necessary, is kind of harsh.
I think that a person should be able to chat all the like at first but when they violate the rules they get put on a banned from shout box list.

I warn people when they are infringing or about to violate the rules outright. I am a someone who likes the shoutbox for its community talk along with the chat box. I also have never violated to the rules to the extent where it is noticeable. Being a OtakuStreamers member has given me a level of pride to follow the rules which I adhered to. To be a shoutbox exclusive member means to be being one of the few respected individuals that can maintain the order which I would like to preserve.

When I'm loading anime I read conversations from sb and join in when its interesting. I should be allowed to be a "special member" to use the shout box because I follow the rules. I'm usually the one who mediates and mentions to the others who are about to break the rules to stop before it gets worse. When I'm around, even though my name is in gray, it's sort of like the voice of reason. The Shout box is a great asset to me when I need advise on a certain anime or drama, the people in the SB are actually quite helpful. To close, it's a great way for me to get opinion's on anime/drama and see what people recommend instead of just having to open a post and possibly wait a while.

I haven't been on OS long enough, but I do enjoy using the shoutbox for chat every now and then. I do agree with this idea, and at first, I honestly thought it was a moderator recruitment; but when I saw your solution I could see why it was a much better solution because it really would lessen server lag and filter out useless spammers. I would like to continue being able to use the shoutbox because I enjoy giving quick one or two liners of information or answers or even questions for people to read. I haven't really posted anything meaningless on the shoutbox either, nor in other languages, or none that I can recall anyways. I hope that those reasons are enough for me to be able to continue using the shoutbox here on OS, thank you.

I feel that I should have access to the SB because I help to provide aid to those who need it as best as I can. I have never broken the SB rules, and I make an effort to make sure people do not. The SB provides a great communication platform for members of OS, and it has benefited me greatly. The reason why I still want to be able to post in Shout Box is because I really love it there. Shout Box takes up around 30-50% of my time in OS and that's how much I love the Shout Box. I learn new things in Shout Box and make great new friends. I have never broke a rule as far as my memory goes and sometimes I even help or scold new members since sometimes no one would help them or some just need scolding. I really don't want to be left out since for me, a lot of interesting stuff goes on at Shout Box. So please, let me continue to use the Shout Box.

I find the shoutbox to be an source of entertainment and communication between members. Its function as a quick contact between members to gain recommendations of or join in on discussions of upcoming/released Anime is convenient for not only me, but also new and old members alike. I'll try my best to give my reasons within 5 sentences (<--- this doesn't count ^^)

1) To me SB is one of the medium in gaining new friends, I wouldn't have fill up my friend list without the help of SB.
2) Having to help out people by answering their query is one habit I can't refuse.

4) There are times I just lurk around SB by "listening" to other people points of view, it helps me gain insight of ones own culture as well as tastes.

Although I am not an avid user of the Shoutbox these days as I used to be, I enjoy being able to talk to the members of our awesome anime community when I would like to. I find this rule quite shocking but what needs to be done must be done, however, I would hate to be excluded from the SB. Though I've been more prone to use the chatbox lately, I do on occasion enjoy visiting the shoutbox to check what disscusion(s) are happening there. I'm always available for any recommendations, and will inform members of the rules/functions of the site if no one else is available to. Ephe would still like to continue using the SB as I think the shoutbox contributes a great factor in my connections regarding the OS community. The SB itself is a gateway for me to access not only my need to chat, but also communicating with mods and other staff regarding to my woes when it comes to technical difficulties, reporting bad behavior in the community, forum posting and the like with fast service and can still communicate with speed as opposed to pm'ing them personally. I have been around OS since last 2 years ago and I love this site since I got active around last year. I frequent the SB often as it is the most convenient tool of communication in OS, and I do enjoy talking to other members in OS. I am also generally helpful to those who are new to OS or those with questions, and I try my best to help them clarify any doubts. Being an uploader, the SB allows me to have a quick access to other uploaders to ask questions or potential uploaders to guide and to inform them on being an uploader. I do not speak other languages other than English or perhaps some Romanji like Ohayo minna or something like. I would like to have access to the SB due to four reasons.Firstly,I always use proper English when communicating with my fellow members.Secondly, I do not attack my fellow members ideas even if the idea does not agree with me.Thirdly, I offer constructive ideas and news to SB to help them out or just to update them on the current affair.Last but not least, is that SB has grown with me since the day that I joined and from there I can find out what are the citizens in OS are doing, it gives me a sense of belonging to be there watching anime instead of other sites because it makes me feel that I am not alone in watching anime as numerous people disregarding cultures or races are also there watching it with me.

2. When streaming is kinda slow, SB serves as the primary pastime for me.

I would like to be considered for SB access because I have found the SB to be very helpful in giving new anime for me to watch, courtesy of my fellow otaku, instead of aimlessly searching through the anime streaming list (which seldom helps). The SB is also where I can see the daily happenings around the otaku community here on OS much quicker and easier than going to the CB. The SB then shows, no matter how mundane and ordinary the shout outs, even random at other times, it depicts a side to our community that is very intimate and personal that lies behind our masks of anonymity. It also helps me unwind and let loose my tension by way of random messages and/or shared comments, which then decreases the tension in my overtly stressful life. The SB is where we, as otaku, share such a moment of intimacy and randomness even for a second or two and thus rests my case.

The reason why I think I deserve to still be able to post on the shoutbox is simple. The shoutbox provides me(and maybe others) companionship, as well as friends, to assist me in my stay in OS. I think those who abuse the shoutbox need not be outright banned for doing so, but instead be given a shoutbox of their own, probably smaller than the original shoutbox. Also, I think that the shoutbox, in its location right now, would remind people of other streaming sites(not naming any)' Tinychat box. If that's the case, then I would recommend limiting the shoutbox to appear ONLY in the forums, while having a separate client available when in Streaming and other locations.

I'd like to be able to communicate with people who can show me new insight into the world, and I feel shoutbox allows me to do this if it isn't as chaotic as it has been. I enjoy the people and moderators of OS who actually contribute and seem to wish to improve the site with their presence so I'd like to be able to relax and spend time with them without having to have a 100 tabs open (for chatbox/pm/forums/etc).
Overall shoutbox is a great feature to have when its actually being used for what it was intended, and I like being a part of it when its having a good day. I look forward to spending time with the OS community in there, and feel that its a quick way to dialogue without much hassle, so it's beneficial all around, so long as we can actually read what everyone is saying and people can treat eachother with respect and kindness. OK, first off, I love hanging out in the SB and although I violate the rules sometimes, but not always on purpose and i apologize from my heart.

The SB for me is a very vital part of OS, there's just something to it that the CB doesn't have and it would suck if it were taken from me.

I met alot of good people here on the SB.

The SB is good for posting questions in streaming, and the conversations are much easier to follow.

I'd like to still be able to Shout in the Shoutbox, having the shoutbox taken from me would make OS a bit less appealing to me.

I would still want to be this special member which can still continue the use of the SB. It is because even though that there are trolls, violators or whatever you call them, SB is much more of the friendlier place in OS. Well, CB people might disagree with it but my experience there tells a lot of this unfriendly behavior they got, have you ever been ignored there like you almost reply to what they are talking about and yet they will not talk to you, and I see that they are welcoming some of the new names there too, when I First came there, no one greeted I felt like I was not welcome the second time I went there, there was this new member that came there for the first time and guess what? he got a very very warm welcome, the world is unfair isn't? the worst thing that happened to me there that I got banned in the CB. Well, because I was about to edit it, the one who I asked how to edit my post there went "poof" then I did not know what to do then I continued watching, I avoided CB after that I think I just went there after meeting members from the UP AME event, but still that feeling of unfriendliness it gives is still there, and statistically most people on my friend list are the people who added me because I met the in the SB. The SB give less of what the CB gives and also SB gives a lot of what the CB cant. Forums? nah I only reply to threads I like and start a thread that I want.

I am somewhat amused by the number of people who do not have five sentences. As someone who isn't much of rule breaker I find being able to post in the shoutbox makes it less annoying to see it next to the streaming videos. Thus if it is restricted as such I'd like an obvious "hide" button. Naturally a button like that might already exist, but there might be some error between keyboard and chair not letting me see it. Finally, whether this is a prank or not- the comments themselves in reply are pretty funny.

I like the shoutbox since it gives me the opportunity to mingle with people who also like anime/manga. From where I am, there are not that many people who accept this trend. i try to help whenever it is within my possibilities. whenever i'm paying attention to the SB and see somebody breaking the rules i inform them about them. i like to socialise :). but socialising with people from different backgrounds is even better. i can let them know about my vewspoints regarding whatever the conversation subject may be.
