Well having more OS ranks could be fun sure, but it would be such a shame if people just started posting in order to "level up".. one of the good things about the OS-forum is that there aren't much spam.

Perhaps it's possible to find a balance, implant more ranks once the numbers of citizens becomes to high.. but for now I vote for no change as it could damage the quality of the forum!!

I'll try to clarify excatly what I was trying to say... what I meant by spam; is posts that has no message, real meaning or relavance. Posts simply made in order to add to the post count, that stuff is annoying because it makes topics so damn long and heavy to read because the coherency goes down the drain.
Right now we hardly have any of that stuff on OS forums.

My fear was that if several more ranks were added it could lead to newcomers thinking "ohh shot I have to make 500 post in order to become an OS god :/ Ahh well I'll just make a 100 a day" that would lead to some serious spam...
but perhaps even futher time requirements would prevent this eg. 6 months and 500 post

As for rankings themselves, I have to agree with Jade's post about people who may post just to get points and keeping spam down on the site.

Instead of rankings I think a better way is to manage to forum games a bit better and award the winner/loser a badge. People can collect can proudly collect win and anti-win badges.

Or perhaps let people add their own tags to user posts depending on their quality and have those tags on the user profile. 'silly' 'thoughtful' insightful' 'baka' 'mega-baka' 'cute' etc.
Well, maybe take out the negative tags...

Yeah, I completely know what spam means, being a forum user for almost five years now.

If there are serious spammers, they should just get BANNED on the spot!

But I feel like that won't happen anytime soon, maybe someone like the enthusiastic poster as me may. XP

But then again, we all have our own opinions and reasons. :)

I don't think they should add "a lot" more rankings, but at least 1 more for the "moment" so us "citizens" have something to look forward to. Its just my personal opinion.

Since it is possible to change your own title to anything that you want anyway .... why not go with the color coding that is already in place. That means anybody that is any color but white is no longer a rookie ... so be it.

I do like the awards (little badges and symbols) that are added for being thanked or doing something special ... but they should go away after a month or so ... meaning that you have to keep doing stuff to keep the badges ... Or on the other hand - "Badges, we don't need no stinking badges"(Blazing Saddles) ... desu~

this whole obsession about citizen thing is getting ridiculous. i was expecting a smarter, worthwhile posts from the wanna-be citizens(like what matt,al,kuyah did). nothing wrong with aiming to be one, just dont try too hard.

Instead of upping your post count, why not strive for one of those medals. They are harder to get than OS Citizen.

You can try being helpful, offering insightful comments, interesting threads, or uploading videos.

A higher position than OS Citizen might come in the future; until then, enjoy OSC status!

PS: OS God?? Certainly you have better suggestions that that! :D

But you can earn respect from others if you have higher rank

Do you think ranking is good? Well some of the forums put levels and sometimes awards with medals by the number of post like what is awarded here in OS if you are an up-loader. But the thing is most of the reply in that thread or forum is just spam so they can level up. So i suggest that individual promotion. If your active, its up to the admins or moderator to rank you up.

Yeah there was a big posting spree a while back; 200 posts in a day or two. Most of the posts were one-liners replying to a random conversation in a thread.
For example, this thread would've gotten about 5 pages of comments about hotdogs or other foodstuffs.

That's why new rankings were withheld; to prevent spamming for ranks. The idea won't be permanently abandoned, so stay active and keep our forums interesting.

No, but seriously, though I don't post all too much, I like to read the forums from time to time. I'd go insane if I had to sort through pages of 1 word replies, and comments that have no real meat to them.

I think ranking is important. It shows how well one is useful to the community.

Apparently there will be some who are more helpful than the others.
