I litre of tears is a miserably sad J-drama. It may be well done and have a cult following, but I would never recommend it, unless you are in to watching a show with a couple pf boxes of tissues next to you!!

Try Hana Yori Dango - Season 1 & 2. Its very funny and based on an anime, so it straddles the best of two worlds
