The anime was recently released, and its so good. Just watched the first episode, very interesting anime. I was a bit skeptical about whether the genre will fit my preference (i'm more into rom/com's,and of course much fantasy/magic). BUT Let me hear your opinion of this brand new anime.

Heres the question:
Potential? Good? Bad? What did you like? Artwork? Plot? How can it improve? Your favorite thing about it? Just generic questions for you to answer, but please write your own personal review of the first episode.

I'm going to give my review, I watched the ep as soon as it came out and personally I think it will turn out to be those ecchi types of anime and it something similar to the anime : Linebarrels of Iron ...
After watching first episode kind of want to watch the second one.. Its like an ecchi anime and I have a good feeling this anime will be...I like the art work and I think the plot will be cheezy... I like pshcological stuff more like code gease...

Im not into Mecha anime but this one might be different and i'm kind of excited to see whats going to happen. In some ways I think this anime is predictable... but hopefully they will have some twist in the plots and the characters aren't bad except for that annoying blond girl from England...

I'm going to guess that the boy will win the battle and they people will find out he is pretty good. ( im talking about the battle with the blond English girl)

I'm Hopping that there will be more actions and I want twisted, surprises and unpredictable stuff :D

Anyhow, IS sure is promising. It has been a long time since I watched a mecha anime. The artworks nice and o is the animation. The story piques my curiosity. Overall it is great.

I already read the manga. After watching episode 1 of Infinite Stratos, it made me search if theres a manga of it. I found it but too bad it only has one chapter :|

Anyways, this is an anime that is also outside my usual range. I tend to avoid mecha, and yet those that I've actually taken the time to get into I've rather enjoyed. Stuff like Neon Genesis Evangelion, Eureka Seven, Fullmetal Panic, Simoun, Soukou no Strain etc. (Minus Code Geass which I think I'm one of the only people who actually hated that series...)

Anyways, back on topic, with one episode down the series has already piqued my interest. I like the concept of the changing social norms where women are now on the top of the social ladder, and apparently are expected to win against men in a fight. The series does show a lot of potential, and if executed well it could quite possibly end as one of my favourites this year as it starts with such a promising premise. The problem is, it appears already that this series will more than likely turn more fluff than serious which will most definitely be a setback.

As for the first episode, I also believe that Orimura will win. He seems to fit the archetype of a "Natural" to the letter. My guess is that even though he doesn't quite understand all of the mechanics behind why things work etc, he'll be more than capable on basic instincts alone.

Maybe some other countries would break the contract of not using IS for military purposes. and the school would be called to arms to retaliate the said threat.. if that happens that'll be awesome.. I just hope they focus on mecha/action than harem genre..

Save the best for last lol. anyways I don't really think of Code Geass as a Mecha, and I'm not into Mecha either. this is the second time the mecha anime interests me. Although I'm only a Fan of Mecha when it comes to Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed/Destiny, And Gundam 00. The Anime is interesting like what you said on the First episode piqued my interest. and about the Natural Type, well for a protagonist, he fits in that type, and will continue to rely on instincts alone, lol like Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach.

I agree on this one. I found it lame about the mecha part. Though I did enjoy the first ep, I won't be expecting much from this series.

I really wanted to like Infinite Stratos but my initial opinion of it is lukewarm. I didn't dislike it though--the first episode didn't have enough substance for me to firmly feel one way or the other. That being said, I still have a few comments to make on what I have seen so far.

In short, there is absolutely nothing in this anime that audiences haven't already seen hundreds of times before. It's the quintessential popcorn anime: generic character designs, bland plot, standard animation, et cetera. The writers don't even attempt to breathe new life into the stale scenario either. Every spoken line and gesture, look and response, is utterly predictable and dull. Not to mention that the supposed "comedy" aspect that this show is supposed to feature apparently hasn't popped up yet, or maybe it did and I just missed it...which would be even worse.

I plan on giving this show one more try with the second episode, but if it doesn't drastically improve in every way I'll drop it. There are far too many other shows that have caught my attention this season to spend my time watching one that I'm not enamored with.

Back in Fall 2010, after Hearing many New Animes coming and airing on Winter and Spring 2011, I thought and came up with a great idea. I want to create a Review Thread for new upcoming anime series. That way, like you said, this is a wonderful way for members to see out what other people think about a show before investing their time. And the threads purpose is to let the members give out their opinions and reviews on the anime. OMG OMG OMG

for sure I thought Orimura Ichika already knew how to pilot an IS. but it turns out this is his 2nd time, which made me somewhat disappointed. He asks for a training with Houki Shinonono :8: And he is training Kendo, not how to pilot an IS :2: his IS is Byakku Shiki, while Cecilia's IS is Blue Tears. well in the fight with Cecilia Alcott is what made me excited. I mean, his fighting Cecilia with the Initial Settings the entire time without even activating the First Shift. And his First Shift is really cool, dodging all of those attacks. And his weapon is called Yukihira Nigata, the weapon used by his sister Chifuyu. And he lost the fight because of him overusing Barrier Void. And I'm really excited to watch the next episode. I see that he has 2 Childhood Friend, we already knew Houki Shinonono. And his 2nd Childhood Friend is Lin Yin Fang, a first year student at the IS academy and is the IS cadet representative from China. Like Houki, Lin Yin has been friends with Ichika since they were little. Anyways, just watch it.

Episode 4 Review :

Ichika and Rin engage in a duel, and Ichika, still without enough experience in IS combat(or rather basic IS control and understanding of knowledge) faces heavy disadvantage.

But then an unidentified IS falls from the sky and lands inside the IS Arena, penetrating the protective energy shield (to protect gallery from any stray attack from the match)

IS Academy is alearted and prepares to dispatch defense force, but Ichika realizes that the unknown IS is strong enough to pierce the protective shield, which basically means it is holding every gallery inside arena at risk, and decides to buy time until rescue is arrived.
(The intrusion alert caused the blast door to close shut, trapping the gallery inside arena stand)

Observing the intruder's rather abnormal appearance, (a bulky full-body armor type, with no bare skin visible) and its strange behavior, Ichika begins to suspect that the intruder might be unmanned IS. (Which Rin disagrees since every IS needs pilot to operate)

Together, Rin and Ichika fight against the intruder but since they both spents quite a lot of energy during the duel, they face disadvantage. The enemy IS is jus too agile for inexperienced Ichika to score a direct hit with his weapon.
(Chihuyu and Maya don't seem to have personal IS at this point, and Cecilia can't join the fight since she is located outside the Arena Sheild.)
(The intrusion alert also caused the Arena Shield to be boosted in strength - level 4 - as a protection measure)

With barely enough energy to activate Reiraku Byakuya (energy-negating attack) just once more, Ichika is struggling to come up with a plan. That's when Houki, entering the broadcasting room inside Arena(still outside the shield) tells Ichika that if he is a man, he should be able to dispatch it without much trouble.

The unknown IS reacts to Houki's words as if she drew its interest, and Ichika fears that it might attack Houki.

Ichika tells Rinn to use her remaining energy and shoots a full-charge Shock Cannon, and she reluctuntly does so, worried that the enemy would evade it just like before, during the battle.

She fires the Shock Cannon, but then she sees ichika charging ahead, with his back directly on the line of fire from the Shock Cannon.

But as the shock hits Ichika, he uses its energy as a additional propellent for his Ignition Boost.
(Ignition Boost works as the propellent particles are expelled from his thruster nozzle, sucked in again, and compressed once more before finally being released, which means he could use outside energy source to boost the thrust - although his IS could receive some heavy and possibly serious damage)

With faster-than-normal-Ignition-Boost charge, Ichika slashes at the intruder and manages to slice off one of its arms, but he also receives a counter from it and is knocked down.

But his plan was not over. His final slash with energy-negating attack also tore through the Arena Shield, and Cecilia is waiting on the other side of the opening, with all her weapons lined up. Concentrated fire from Her BT weapons cuts down the intruder, ultimately silencing it.

(During the fight, Ichika was on a private channel with Cecilia for a possible coordinated attack. Estimating that his final attack might not be enough to deal decisive blow to the intruder, Ichika managed to get Cecilia ready for a final blow, and Cecilia, frustrated at the situation where she could not join the battle due to the Arena Shield, was happy to help.)


As a result, the class representative match was canceled, but Ichika and Rinn, having fought together, quickly reconciles.

- Ran goes from tsun to dere faster than Cecilia lol
- France is what I expected: coming off as a bishounen
- I wonder what every girl was thinking seeing "Charles" and Ichika running around school holding hands
- Ichika teaching classmates the basics of an IS? Also, he gets a free grope of Yamada-sensei ^^
- Ichika feeding Houki with massive amounts of jelly from Cecilia/Rin
- Surprise Laura at the end
- LOL "legendary Princess hug " Houki got a head start
- Cecilia sandwich only look ok, the taste is not guaranteed
- Laura appears, Ichika got slapped, LOL at the student "how many more people will transfer into this class.."
- Houki asked Ichika on a date?
- Houki being carried bride-style into an IS by Ichika
- Laura smacks Ichika in front of the whole class to end the episode
- Next episode preview shows a shower scene and Ichika/"Charles" vs Laura

This episode was a flip of the previous one - almost all harem antics with a little battle between Cecilia/Rin and Yamada-sensei.

this anime is really disapoint me..... The only thing that make me wacth the 1 & 2 episodes is the IS machine, that is all nothing else,
I know that this anime will eventually involve politics and thats the thing I really hate the most.

yes, Charles Dunois is just an Alias, her real name is Charlotte Dunois. And that was the reason why they transferred Charlotte to IS Academy as a boy in the first place, so she could get close to Ichika and steal data from Byakku Shiki

well yeah, the CEO decides to obtain the data from elsewhere, and faked Charlotte's gender. Believing Charlotte to be the world's 2nd male IS pilot, the French government chose her as one of representative candidate, and sent her to IS Academy. According to Dunoa's plan, Charlotte was to get close to Ichika (This part was no problem since Charlotte (under the alias of 'Charles') and Ichika were the only 'male' in the Academy and would naturally be assigned same room.) and steal important data from his IS, Byakku Shiki, which was viewed as the newest 3rd Gen. IS at that time.

And as for the Light Novel, you just download it XD

well, it you really want to read the Light Novel that badly, I suggest you watch first the Anime since the Anime has a total of 12 Episodes. Next Week, we get to see Ichika and Charles/Charlotte fight Laura XD

ya that's really true watch anime 1st before reading the novels because you will be disappointed after reading the novel then watching it, there are so many things that are not included.

Yes, It didn't take long for Ichika to find out that Charlotte was in fact a girl, but he soon discovers her true gender. But after hearing her sad story, Ichika became furious of her 'parents' and decided to help her out, planning to think of a solution for her situation in next 3 years. he decides to help her and then she falls in love with him.
(Ichika's reaction to her story might be related to his own situation, since he was abandoned by his parents)

Um, the girl in the bottom (in the public bath tub) is Charlotte. At this time, her identity as a girl was known only to Ichika - who, after hearing her story, aggreed to keep her secret - and she had to act as a boy to the rest of people in school.
Since they are allowed to use the public bath in a very limited occasions, not entering the place might buy suspision from others. So she entered the bath - initially saying that she would stay in the locker room while Ichika was taking bath (Ichika loves the large public bath, BTW) but she eventually enters the bath and have a talk with Ichika.

Talking about the reveal, I liked how neither Charlotte or Ichika overreacted during the shower scene. She simple stood there covering herself and Ichika was very normal : "Here is the soap"
The info regarding Chifuyu's past was also nice, now it is clear why Laura has that heavy grudge towards Ichika.
Speaking of Ichika, loved how he turned Touma on her. That's the protagonist's job. And this guy has proven to be all of a great protagonist. He's so great, he can change the shape of the chopsticks he holds! Look! Charlotte didn't split the chopsticks correctly, but when Ichika held it, it morphed! Charlotte's breast size suddenly increased...
It was a fun episode though. Charlotte was really cute.

Anyways, the next target for the harem is the German Eye-patch + special eye girl, I mean Laura lol. Reminds me of Cinque-nee from the third season of Nanoha. O

Next week: Finally we get to see the Schwarzer Regen in action, after the warm up against Charlotte. Rin and Cecilia couldn't coordinate as a team before so...

I noticed the chop stick thing too! It bothered me, lol. I don't like it when things aren't consistent. As for charlotte's breast size, I just assumed she was wearing stuff to make them look smaller. Like an ace bandage, or their underarmor type shirt. I don't think this series is great, but it's definitely one of my favourites this season... even if very cliche. I actually like all the cliche stuff they're using, lol.

Haven't had a chance to reply you guys yet about IS, so from the first 6 episodes, this anime is pretty awesome, don't really recall anything else similar to an ms girl concept as a full series as well.

Yes, Charlotte is just... ZOMG shes frigging gorgeous, not just her build, her personality is just adorable~! When she was first introduce it was obvious about her little secret, and first impression, I found her fairly nice and welcoming, more of a sideliner in the harem like Su in Love Hina, but after this episode, that idea definetely changed.

Funny thing is, I'm also sort of wanting to see an Ichika x Charlotte pair, but I still also like the Ichika x Houki pair, especially with the balcony lunch scene in episode 5. Damn harem series for having multiple likable pairings (at least for me XD)

Going bact to the Topic: Yes Schwarzer Regen. Laura pilot suit, dunno why, maybe cause its just been her, but it was really odd seeing an IS pilot suit being shoeless. Though her IS's weapon, if I'm not mistaken a railgun, looks really nice.

Okay, Episode 7 :

As expected, we get even more stuff related to Laura. And honestly, she is really tiring: there isn't much about her aside of a one dimensional arrogant girl, and her behavior certainly confirms her speech back in Episode 6.

It is hard to actually give some credits about her, when she is pulling a fight and harassing Cecilia and Rin needlessly. I was wondering how they would explain about the strangling attack with IS shield, but regardless if it was life threatening or not, she broke the limits by a huge margin... At least, she is doing her role "properly".

But that leads to something challenging my suspension of disbelief : considering how things can go out of hand with machines of that kind, piloted by teenager girls (and now, boy), why didn't the teachers intervene? I mean it would be natural to have someone monitoring the arena all the time, or a system that alerts something is ongoing.

Then, we have super onee~sama, without any IS, wielding a IS katana of a... what, beyond 1m blade length, with her bare hands?
Stopping Laura in her motion to boot? Okay she is quite the boss, but it is... really an unecessary "cool factor" that just makes me facepalm HARD.

Good to see some stuff about Houki, and the fact she admits having issues at venting her frustration, leading to mispractice of Kendo (if you expect wielding a shinai just for the hell of beating your opponent, you can pass). That leaves to the big question : why is she teaming with Laura? She herself saw how Laura is using violence, reminding her own "unsightly" behaviour she had before.

Anyway, like other episodes, Charlotte is just being THE reason to watch this show, and... good lord, she might go through Ichika's infinite darko oblivion with her charms. A cute and kind no-nonsense girl, acting appropriately with everyone.
it is also good to notice that Ichika is really seeing her as a girl, and not hanging her around just because "he feels more comfortable with guys (guy-looking girl?)". So we might have some hope for him in the long run.

And with the preview, I can't help but think Charlotte raised twice as more flags than all girls' COMBINED. I wouldn't mind at all, considering her character but also the fact it will shatter the "obvious girl ending" rondo cliche.
If they do anything else, I will storm japan with a baseball bat.

Episode 8 was fantastic, I did not expect some of the scenarios to turn out so good. The fight was cool, the upcoming date, the bath scene, the forced-proposal and the kissing scene. It never ceased to amuse me. :)))

Remember the part where Laura asked Ichika the true definition of Strength? And Ichika in which he answers "Being able to do what one wants to do" and "being able to help those around him" or simply protecting the one he cares for gives him Strength. Hearing his answer, she remembered the conversation she had with Chifuyu~nee about the mysterious but True Strength of her brother. Since his "strength" tends to attract women and make them fall in love with him. And realizes that she just fell in love with Ichika.
