Otaku-Streamers is now 2 years old


Wow, I can't believe its been two years since we launched Otaku-Streamers. Two years and we are still here! :4: We have made so many changes, tackled numerous obstacles and witnessed the community grow in that span of time to the awesome site we have today.

Before we face onwards on our journey, we would like to take the time to look back on the many faces of OS and what it was like in those early days of yore ... and thought we would take you on a walk down memory lane.

The beginning...
Before crunchyroll, before youtube, there was vnl-online. Vnl-online was created january 2005 or maybe earlier, and it was a place where anyone can upload jpop, photos and most importantly, anime. It was the first streaming anime site I have seen. If I am not mistaken, russj was the one who introduced me to it.

Streaming videos wasn't so popular then and you can imagine how amazing it was for me to discover that I could stream on demand the vast collection of animes and dramas they have. I then introduced the site to jim and that was the time he was addicted to anime (chobits, GTO, midori no hibi).

Not only that, they have this feature where when you click on a username, a separate window opens up so you can directly chat to that user realtime. You have to understand that this was way before facebook; friendster and myspace was the one dominating at that time but they don't have the chat functionality vnl has. We get to share and connect our passion for anime to other members. There was another feature that was truly one of a kind but I won't get to that or the post would be too long. Needless to say, it was pioneering and innovating.

Then on 2007, they closed down. We're not sure why exactly but probably it was due to server cost. I don't remember if they were relying on donation but I'm sure there was no ads. At that time, it probably cost thousands of dollars to maintain every month.

Since then we haven't really found an alternative as good as them. So that's the day jim decided that he will create his own streaming site.
Birth of OS younger sister, Asian-Otaku

Asian-Otaku started around march 2008 and was the first streaming site we created. It had a total of 66 videos and 71 members. Contrary to the screenshot, upload and chat was a dead link, it was still on the to do list.

We were small but happy that we get to have our videos to stream. AO died around may 2008 because the host kicked us out due to heavy usage of bandwidth.

Soon after AO was taken down, jim developed another one named OtakuStreamers.com (without the hyphen) and was released on the wild on October 2008. But it was only until November when the community was at its peak.

Don't you think having thumbnails for every episode makes an anime look more appealing to watch? :) Because we couldn't afford a flash server that would do this automatically, we had to improvise and do it manually. Taking screen shots for each episodes then upload it.

We were happy on how the community is growing fast to the point where when I go in an internet cafe, I would see strangers using the site and commenting how the quality is far better than the other streaming site. You can imagine how proud it made me seeing the site being passed around through word of mouth and hearing their comments about it. I was silently cheering "Yeah!!".

We said to ourselves, we really did it. Everything is going so smoothly and were a step closer achieving our goal. The community were even looking forward to the meet up on a cosplay even on december that year.

But alas, life reminds us that nothing will ever go smoothly. The host were having technical difficulties with us and to top it off, there are other misunderstandings and complications between the host and us. We did everything we could but I guess the host just figured to not deal with the headache. On December 9 2008, they pulled the plug.

All the hardwork, the videos and most importantly, the community went down the drain. It was as if it was all just a dream and you woke up because it was just too good to be true. We were depressed for a week.

After a week OtakuStreamers was taken down, we decided that we have done too much to stop. We were planning now another version of OS. On December 28 2008, Otaku-Streamers was born. I'm sure most of you are familiar with this old layout. This was the layout of OS from jan to december of 2009.

For those who have been around since then, I'm sure it was all too familiar having one of our servers break down and sorts of problems including attacks. With constant trial and error, OS continue to evolve, endure and survive.

I would take this opportunity to personally thank Bindu1000 with her great help and support during hard times of OS. Without her, OS would probably have experienced a lot of draw backs, delays and worse case, not survive until today.

One things for sure, OS won't progress at this speed without her help. Thanks Bindu!


Otaku-Streamers v2

OS had a major update on december 2009 with the layout above. A lot of features being added and I think most of you still remember that layout. Even though there was huge decrease on downtime from our video servers, their was this persistent problem with the overall performance of the server. It has a slow page response most of the time and some occasional crashes that required rebooting.

But despite that, community is growing steadily and titles are increasing everyday.


Otaku-Streamers v2.1
The current update of OS. We have come a long way. The whole site is much faster even in heavy load. No more downtime of videos and a great community with dedicated staff members. Heck we even have a band :)

The number of videos is close to 30,000 and it is safe to say that OS right now has the largest collection anime videos available for on demand streaming with decent quality compared to others.

We are also have no ads and was made possible thanks to our generous VIP's of OS.

All I want to say is that nothing of this is possible without the community, the staff and the VIPs. Thank you so much for the continued support~

Additional Announcements


New Dedicated Server



Jim recently purchased a new dedicated server with 2TB hard disk and a 100mb port. We will be doing load balancing on the videos to that new server.

Thank you donators for making this possible!
Quote Notification
A new feature has been added to OS. Every time someone quotes you on the forum, you will be notified through a private message.

Go to Settings > General Settings > Quote Notification. Select Private Message then Save
Color Changing
If you have multiple usergroups like being an uploader and an OS citizen at the same time, you can now manually select what color you want to be presented in.

Go to Settings > Permission Group. Select usergroup you want to be identified with then Save.
Other stuff
There are some old functions already available but some members might not know yet

Enable Chatbox at the bottom of Streaming video. Settings > OSCB in Streaming.

Turn off shoutbox. Settings > OS Shoutbox.

Coming soon - Anime Watchlist
You can add a specific anime to your watch list and whenever their is a new episode added, you will be notified.

Otaku-Streamers is now 2 years old


Wow, I can't believe its been two years since we launched Otaku-Streamers. Two years and we are still here! :4: We have made so many changes, tackled numerous obstacles and witnessed the community grow in that span of time to the awesome site we have today.

Before we face onwards on our journey, we would like to take the time to look back on the many faces of OS and what it was like in those early days of yore ... and thought we would take you on a walk down memory lane.

The beginning...
Before crunchyroll, before youtube, there was vnl-online. Vnl-online was created january 2005 or maybe earlier, and it was a place where anyone can upload jpop, photos and most importantly, anime. It was the first streaming anime site I have seen. If I am not mistaken, russj was the one who introduced me to it.

Streaming videos wasn't so popular then and you can imagine how amazing it was for me to discover that I could stream on demand the vast collection of animes and dramas they have. I then introduced the site to jim and that was the time he was addicted to anime (chobits, GTO, midori no hibi).

Not only that, they have this feature where when you click on a username, a separate window opens up so you can directly chat to that user realtime. You have to understand that this was way before facebook; friendster and myspace was the one dominating at that time but they don't have the chat functionality vnl has. We get to share and connect our passion for anime to other members. There was another feature that was truly one of a kind but I won't get to that or the post would be too long. Needless to say, it was pioneering and innovating.

Then on 2007, they closed down. We're not sure why exactly but probably it was due to server cost. I don't remember if they were relying on donation but I'm sure there was no ads. At that time, it probably cost thousands of dollars to maintain every month.

Since then we haven't really found an alternative as good as them. So that's the day jim decided that he will create his own streaming site.
Birth of OS younger sister, Asian-Otaku

Asian-Otaku started around march 2008 and was the first streaming site we created. It had a total of 66 videos and 71 members. Contrary to the screenshot, upload and chat was a dead link, it was still on the to do list.

We were small but happy that we get to have our videos to stream. AO died around may 2008 because the host kicked us out due to heavy usage of bandwidth.

Soon after AO was taken down, jim developed another one named OtakuStreamers.com (without the hyphen) and was released on the wild on October 2008. But it was only until November when the community was at its peak.

Don't you think having thumbnails for every episode makes an anime look more appealing to watch? :) Because we couldn't afford a flash server that would do this automatically, we had to improvise and do it manually. Taking screen shots for each episodes then upload it.

We were happy on how the community is growing fast to the point where when I go in an internet cafe, I would see strangers using the site and commenting how the quality is far better than the other streaming site. You can imagine how proud it made me seeing the site being passed around through word of mouth and hearing their comments about it. I was silently cheering "Yeah!!".

We said to ourselves, we really did it. Everything is going so smoothly and were a step closer achieving our goal. The community were even looking forward to the meet up on a cosplay even on december that year.

But alas, life reminds us that nothing will ever go smoothly. The host were having technical difficulties with us and to top it off, there are other misunderstandings and complications between the host and us. We did everything we could but I guess the host just figured to not deal with the headache. On December 9 2008, they pulled the plug.

All the hardwork, the videos and most importantly, the community went down the drain. It was as if it was all just a dream and you woke up because it was just too good to be true. We were depressed for a week.

After a week OtakuStreamers was taken down, we decided that we have done too much to stop. We were planning now another version of OS. On December 28 2008, Otaku-Streamers was born. I'm sure most of you are familiar with this old layout. This was the layout of OS from jan to december of 2009.

For those who have been around since then, I'm sure it was all too familiar having one of our servers break down and sorts of problems including attacks. With constant trial and error, OS continue to evolve, endure and survive.

I would take this opportunity to personally thank Bindu1000 with her great help and support during hard times of OS. Without her, OS would probably have experienced a lot of draw backs, delays and worse case, not survive until today.

One things for sure, OS won't progress at this speed without her help. Thanks Bindu!


Otaku-Streamers v2

OS had a major update on december 2009 with the layout above. A lot of features being added and I think most of you still remember that layout. Even though there was huge decrease on downtime from our video servers, their was this persistent problem with the overall performance of the server. It has a slow page response most of the time and some occasional crashes that required rebooting.

But despite that, community is growing steadily and titles are increasing everyday.


Otaku-Streamers v2.1
The current update of OS. We have come a long way. The whole site is much faster even in heavy load. No more downtime of videos and a great community with dedicated staff members. Heck we even have a band :)

The number of videos is close to 30,000 and it is safe to say that OS right now has the largest collection anime videos available for on demand streaming with decent quality compared to others.

We are also have no ads and was made possible thanks to our generous VIP's of OS.

All I want to say is that nothing of this is possible without the community, the staff and the VIPs. Thank you so much for the continued support~

My story was like Jim's.. haha.. I started watching animes when a friend of mine introduce me to the anime Death Note and i was finding a site where i can stream it and has a good video quality. At first i was watching that anime in a site called AnimeDaisuki.com and i guess the site is already down now.. and i was looking for an alternate site so i went to crunchyroll and find someone who posted in their comment box the site.. (i dont remember if this was the statement) *watch this video in Otaku-streamers.net* now i remember it was still .net that time.. hehehe.. and then that was the start of my anime life and journey which let me stream up to 3k+ vids now.. and i think almost 4k xD hahaha..
