Did you at first not like anime?

I remember when I was growing up everyone was saying that anime was lame and stupid and I went with the flow. Until I looked over someones shoulder and saw the fight between Gaara and Rock Lee during the Chuunin Exams. I instantly became a fan!
So whats your story?

I became an anime fan when I watched the very first anime show I saw on cable.... (yes, it seems that we mostly all become otaku's from cable shows..hahaha).

When I was a kid cartoons was all I watched amazingly, I didn't even knew that DBZ was an anime show back then. to be honest, I didn't even knew what anime was until I was at least 8 or 9.
So guess I was an otaku even before I knew it.

At first I am watching cartoons and I thought pokemon and Hunterxhunter are cartoons. I do not bother anime last three years ago but after watching some good animes in a local channel I got being hooked up in watching their season 2.

yeah, it was Bleach at first. I find the Few first episodes boring, but got more and more interesting at episode 16+, and then Bleach was so great and have become one of my favorite Animes XD

nah.. when i was a kid i used to watch the old cartoons.. like still in black and white and still in a monologue.. like the old pop-eye, old mickey mouse, betty boop, the old pink panther.. then japanese cartoons came called "anime".. i first saw the old animes in ch 2, ch 5 and ch 7.. like dragon ball, dragon ball z, salor moon, voltes v, shin machinger.. like those stuff.. i never stop loving anime.. its been my passion.. ^.^ i love anime.. also.. my aunt who is a former hanna-barbera artist (now i canada) also inspire me to love animation more.. anime is never been off my mind.. though.. a lot of people really detest me.. i also felt im weird because i like anime to much.. but i can never hate anime.. i feel kinda sad now.. cause through my life i only cling to anime to calm my mind and heart.. each time i feel alone or left alone.. i think of the only anime that makes me happy or excited to see.. its really fun.. having anime in my life..^.^, everyone have their own kind of happiness.. for me.. its in a form of drawings made in a paper made by people who was inspired to make them alive..

You should be very proud. Not many peoples aunts are former illustrators of a well-known brand of animation.
Its quite funny that you watched those retro disney cartoons in an analog television *makes me wonder just how old are you....hahahaha
I haven't seen those kind of cartoons in ages. It brings back memories of the type of animation that I left behind for anime... *I still love Goofy though, he's the only Disney character that looks huggable.... XP

at first i didn't like naruto,because i've seen that first in national tv. and i think it's too boring.. but from time to time some of my friends read the manga and made me realize that ohh, let me watch that again! haha!

When I was much, much younger I was involved with online role-playing games and several of our members used the most beautiful pictures for their character profiles and avatars. At first all I knew was that the artwork was amazing; the lines were fluid, the eyes were bright, the colors quite vivid. I had watched enough cartoons to know that what I was looking at was something entirely different than anything I had encountered before.

I was raised on a steady diet of cartoons like Pink Panther, Looney Toons, Tom and Jerry, et cetera. I didn't occur to me to consider Studio Ghibli movies like Kiki's Delivery Service and Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind as anything other than Disney films with more mature plots and a different art style. I just knew that I preferred the Ghibli movies because I felt they were more mature and thought-provoking than the usual fare offered to kiddies in America. I was far more likely to pretend I was Kiki than Belle or Ariel, haha.

It wasn't until I stumbled across Gundam Wing one day on Cartoon Network's Toonami afternoon block that the pieces began to fall into place. I identified Gundam Wing's style of art as being similar to Kiki's Delivery Service and the pictures some people used for the profiles in my role-playing game. I knew they weren't all the same, but there was some indefinable quality which I recognized that bound them all together.

So, no, I suppose you can't say that I disliked anime at first because I think I always liked it. I had always been attracted to the peculiar style of Japanese animation even though it took me a while to realize my own preference ^.^

When I first watched anime, I thought it was interesting.

I wasn't hooked instantly. My first few animes were Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon and Beyblade. I didn't know they were 'anime' though. It wasn't until InuYasha wedged itself into my life when I began to discover other animes and learn more about it. From InuYasha to Bleach to .hack//sign to Eureka, it was like I was Edward Elric and having all thise information piled into my brain at once.

i remember the first anime i watched was when i was a kid and it was sailor moon but at the time it was just a cartoon to me. i didnt realise what anime was until my sisters friend started talking about an anime i should watch, and that was only 4 years ago..since then i just love the emotions between characters and cant stop watching new ones :D

For me when I was younger, anime was the thing! XD But later in the years, somehow I kinda stopped watching anime, and I started heading towards the manga direction. Still to this day, I now prefer manga, but I do every once in awhile (long time) watch a(n) anime, just depending on if I think it'll be better to watch in action. I'm not saying anime is not good, but I guess I'm just more of a reader type of person. :D

Mmmmh well when I was little I never really watched TV much, actually the reason why I started watching anime was because I had trouble sleeping one night and came downstairs where my parents were flipping through the tv channels and happened to switch to a channel that was playing the first episode of Gundam Wing and I instantly fell in love with anime. Surprisingly enough my mom, who finds anime a waste of time, was actually the one who fueled my obssesion when she let me stay up passed my bedtime to watch Gundam Wing and Escaflowne!!!

The first anime I've ever watched was DBZ. It was massively popular back then, but at the time I didn't even know it was an anime. Back then I just watched anything that appealed to me, I know I liked actiony shows so that's most likely why it drew me in. Later I started to watch Toonami and saw all the other shows like Rurouni Kenshin, Gundam etc... I really at that time still didn't know what they were, I just knew that they were different from stuff like LooneyToons and Spongebob. They made me feel felt like I was watching actual stories and content that would make great live movies except they were just animated. When I was in middle school I discovered manga, and that's when I realized that most of the shows I had been watching came from them and that they were Japanese. Ever since then Manga and anime was always two of my favorite hobbies, and even though I don't read as much as I used to back then I'll still everynow and then look at manga. So I never really disliked anime,even after I found out what it really was.

I first saw anime when I was about 8 years old. In elementary school. From that point I started to enjoy it and I just got deeper into it as the years progressed an it's been an addiction ever since. Even now I still get excited by some series, and enjoy each and every moment of it. I do enjoy it greatly. So I have always enjoyed it. Considering I'd never heard of anime I didn't know until I was around 16 or 17 that it was 'anime' that I enjoyed.

I watched anime without even realising it was "anime", this definition when I was a kid wasn't really known to me, I didn't know the japanese people made it and other countries like america make dubs for it. First anime was probably Dragonball Z. I liked it along with one of my other friends, we are pretty much fanatics of the show (blame cartoon network and the like :D). Even with this, I always still felt a bit embarassed as I got older that I watched this so it was kind of a secret between me and my friend for a fair amount of time. This friend I mentioned.. after primary school (probably kinder garden to americans) I went to a different high school so I didn't see him a whole lot. I didnt really talk about it with the friends I had to make. Lol I are rambling.. what was I supposed to answer again? xD

Maybe I'm not even eligible to post cos I have always actually liked anime. I just merely closed off my opinion of anime until the late years in high school. Wish I had been more open about it though. Things might have been different if I went to the same school as my friends but what can ya do?

hahaha my mom said that when i was 3 years old...there was a parade because there was a feast in our town...The Voltes V theme song was played by the musicians while they were walking...I was just a toddler then....I dance and make the pose of Voltes V in the middle of the street...my mom didint see me because she was cooking for the feast...haha luckily Someone told my mom that I was in the parade dancing like ka-ray-zee...thats my story...

when I was like starting in elementary...I collect tons of pokemon and yu-gi-oh cards...I always buy them in the back of our school.
my first anime was Pokemon the Original Series and then yu-gi-oh and some other shounen anime like naruto etc

When I was a child, my parents rarely allowed me to watch cartoons, leave alone anime. Like many other adults, they thought all anime was the violent, almost hentai kind of cartoon..
But when Pokemon came on tv, I instantly loved it (still wasn't allowed to watch it), and when I came in contact with anime as a teenager, I also instantly loved it. My first anime was DNAngel, and I just loved the way it looked. Another thing I loved about anime, was that it was socially acceptable (even cool) in my social group. I could watch cartoons without being frowned up on, or be called a little child!

The first anime that i watched that i was aware of was Elfen Lied, that was when i finally figured out what animes were and that the pokemon episode i had been watching for years is also an anime ;o Anyway Elfen Lied really shocked me so i was glad to find out that there were other kinds of animes and stuff, so for me it all started with that and i've been hooked ever since ^^
