Your First Anime In Different Genres/Categories ~

Okay , so I have recently been watching a whole bunch of different kinds of anime , including a lot of shows I would normally never watch . ( no idea why , really - let's spike it up to curiosity ) And I thought maybe I'd start a thread about the first anime you've seen from each category ! ( most are taken from an anime websites ) Here , I'll start :

Action/Adventure : Well, this covers a lot of animes , so it's pretty much just one of the first you've seen . For me this is probably One Piece
Comedy : Fruits Basket - Lots of lighthearted humor and it's shoujo to boot . There isn't much that appeals better to girls .
Ecchi : Love Hina - I had no idea what
"ecchi " meant at that time , so you can imagine how surprised I was at the risque themes , and now it seems normal to me & my favorite xD
Fantasy : Dragon Ball - Talk about epic fights that can only be seen on your wildest fantasies .
Harem : Rosario + Vampire - No offence to the writers , but I kinda got tired of all the chuu'ing scenes . It was funny the first time , but not much after that ...
Horror : D.Gray-man - This show is not heavy horror or anything , but it's categorized under it , so ... yeah !
Magic : Sailor Moon - My very first anime and it was in the dubbed version ...
Martial Arts : Baki The Grappler , no duh !
Reverse Harem : Ouran High School Host Club is pure win - one of my all - time favorites .
Romance : D.N. Angel - c'mon , it's just cute .
School Life : Erm ... I already used up a few ... how about School Rumble ? The theme song's been in my head for days ...
Shoujo : Princess Princess - Yeah , I watched a show about cross - dressing guys. So shoot me .
Shoujo Ai/Yuri : Uta Kata was my first , though as far as more Yuri - ish ones it was probably Strawberry Panic .
Shounen : Naruto ~
Shounen Ai/Yaoi : Kyou Kara Maou was my first shounen - ai , whereas Yaoi would be Junjou Romantica .
Sports : Is Slam Dunk recommendable ?
Tragedy : Sukisho , though it isn't so much a tragedy as a psychological one ...

After making this list, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s quite hard to categorize anime by a single genre. I mean, honestly, I probably could have fit Sailor Moon into nearly category! I tried not to list any anime twice so as to challenge my memory. Here goes:

Action/Adventure: Escaflowne. I believe I first stumbled across this on Fox Kids back when there actually was an afternoon cartoon block x.X
Drama: Ayashi no Ceres. To this day this remains one of my favorite series’.
Ecchi: B Gata H Kei or Ichiban Ushiro no Daimao. I watched them at the same time so I decided to list them together. Personally I prefer the former because the two leads were just so inept I couldn’t help but laugh at their antics.
Fantasy: X/1999. I think I actually watched the movie version first but it’s the television version which stuck in my mind.
Harem: Tenchi Muyo! I’m not a big fan of harem shows unless their of the tragic variety . . .
Horror: Kyuuketsu Hime Miyu (OAV). This is a great show albeit unfinished. This was also made into television series that was pretty decent.
Magical Girl: Sailor Moon . . . as if this is a surprise ^.^
Martial Arts: Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal. The first person I ever met in real life who was into anime was a huge Kenshin fan and she insisted I watch this. At the time I didn’t like it much, but I’ve come to appreciate it’s tragic elements.
Mecha: Gundam Wing. One of my favorite series’ still despite the fact that the fandom is filled with rabid (and delusional) shippers.
Reverse Harem/Romance: Fushigi Yuugi. I can’t believe that no one listed this! Who can forget the way Miaka screamed for Tamahome every five seconds?
School Life: Clannad. I waited a long time after this aired to finally watch it but I was glad I did. Sunohara really made this show for me.
Shoujo: Skip Beat! I could have listed a number of other shows here that I watched earlier, but I didn’t want to do any repeats. Truly, Sailor Moon probably deserves this place the most :D
Shoujo Ai/Yuri: Maria-sama ga Miteru. I didn’t quite understand that this was a yuri show until someone told me. I honestly thought the girls—with the exception of the obvious couple—were just close friends.
Shounen: Saint Seiya. Not much to say about this one really except that armor has never been so shiny, haha.
Shounen Ai/Yaoi: Tokyo Babylon. I really, really dislike this genre except for when it’s done by CLAMP. Even so, the only reason I watched this was because it was a prequel to X/1999.
Sports: Does Pokemon count? *Laughs*
Supernatural: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Oh how this makes me mourn the loss of the days before Stephanie Meyer’s sparkly vampires . . .
Tragedy: Air (TV). Despite the fact that it’s a little bit hard to comprehend, this remains the only show that I’ve actually shed tears while watching.

Note: I added a few genres/themes that were missing and took one out because I honestly didn’t have anything to put for it (comedy). Also, I like making lists ^.^
