At almost 400 episodes it's hard to imagine someone getting into the series from the beginning... though I guess if one had a LOT of time on their hands... hmm, how much time would it take to watch the whole series? Well 22 minutes an episode, subtract 5 mins for recaps and intro end credits.

So we have (400x(22 min - 5 min)) = (400 x 17 min) = 6800 min

6800 min/60min = 113.3 hours = 113 hours and 20 minutes

Now assuming one can watch about 18 hours a day with the remaining six hours devoted to sleep, eating .. and other functions:

113 h/18h = 6 days and 13 hours 20 minutes

Well say one wanted to see each new opening and ending at least once, 30 x 1.5 min = 45 min (I guestimated a little)

So to watch One Piece from the beginning you would need to be free for one week, or 6 days 14 hours and 5 minutes, give or take a couple of hours.

Sadly the longest anime I've watched is Code Geass (around 50 episodes), and that's only because I was so freaking amazingly awesome.

Normally, once something goes past 26 episodes, I automatically lose patience and stop.

The longest one I have been and still is watching would be Detective Conan, my ultimate favorite. (sadly it isn't still here last time I checked)
Although it is regarded as about just the third or fourth in an anime list with the most number of episodes, that's the longest one I've watched by missing just about a hundred or less episodes since not every episode is subbed. I've watched all but the last OVA (OVA 8), as well as all but the latest movie (movie 13 started to be shown last April 18...I wish I could have watch its first showing...oh well...)
You could say, I try as much as possible to watch the series still. It is rumored to take a turn to its end within the year so I don't know. Clues may be hinted on the movie but I am not so sure.

It could be because you are older now and what seemed so much fun earlier, no longer grabs your attention

I tried watching Bleach and Gintama and stopped somewhere in the 40's. I did complete Yu Yu Hakusho which was quite long, but cant remember the number of episodes.
Currently downloading and trying to finish Kyo Kara Maoh which I believe is around 117 episodes, so this I guess would be the longest. I tend to stick with series which wind up with a max. 52 episodes :1:

Let see......I don't know how many episode I watch dragonball but I count in pokemon....I just have watch from season 1 of pokemon to season 7 about 740 episodes......

Pokemon is still ongoing on Japan and still Ash Ketchum was the protagonist(my conclusion).....Let me say something......If Satoshi Tajiri remove Ash from Pokemon then it would end the story

I think the longest running animation is The Simpsons with 20 years of airtime. As for me I think naruto/ naruto Shippuuden. and bleach. Not to mention i am also watching them in English as well as Japanese although i am caught up in Japanese.

It was over 600 episodes.

Of course, that show was broken up into five seasons (not including the three movies or live action series) so I'm not really sure it counts. I have very little patience for long running shows; they simply don't hold my interest. It doesn't even matter how many twists the writers try to shove into the contrived plotlines because the characters themselves inevitably grow stale.

This is probably going to surprise some of the fellow OS members however I have to say the longest running anime I am still watching is Sazae-san which the last ep I saw was episode 6000(2000) (now it is 6297+ or 2099+)since each ep is 3 different things some say that it is entirely 3 different episodes each week as well the anime has been running since 1969. My ranked 2nd longest anime would be Doraemon which was at 1787 episodes until it finally stopped in 2005.
