me and a friend was talking about our first anime's and he said sonic but idk if sonic would be consider an anime i would believe it more of a cartoon then anime please help us out on this topic !!

not sure bout that one. he has two versions of shows. anime and cartoon so i dont know about that one

i think so.. it was originally japanese, and anime is really just short for japanese animation, so japanese cartoons... so yeah, i think it does count.

Technically yes..Anime, like luvtheworld2 said, is just their word for japanese cartoons. so if it was made in japan then technically its anime. whether or not you consider it to be anime yourself is up to you.

yup. Its a japanese made cartoon, and is therefore an anime.

I remember reading somewhere in this one manga, the characters were trying to remember the name of a show and one of them was saying how its that one american anime that has a mouse and cat (they were referencing tom and jerry). So in japan they consider any cartoon as an anime.

Not to be rude, but I would advise you ignore any replies to this thread that aren't this one.

Sonic has a had total of 5 animated series.

First, we had Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sonic SatAM. Those came out around the same time, and are American produced. They are NOT anime.

Then we have the Sonic the Hedgehog OVA/Movie. This is the first Sonic anime (and the best Sonic cartoon, in my opinion. Too bad it's also the shortest, it's extremely excellent).

Later on, we have the French-made Sonic Underground. Also definitely not an anime, and not anything worth watching either.

The latest is Sonic X. Is it an anime? Yes. Is it any good? Probably not.

i wouldnt consider it an anime, due to the way it went about things. the first series worked alot like an American cartoon, a plot for one episode and that was the end of it, no real linear plot. I wouldnt consider it anime, but i guess in technical standards it could be.

Let me rephrase this. Sonic being an anime depends ENTIRELY on what Sonic series we're talking about. Adventures, SatAM, and Underground are NOT ANIME. OVA and X are anime. Case closed.

I was wondering about batman beyond.
The storyline seems carved from an asian scifi fantasy.

I don't consider it to truly be "Anime" unless it was originally created Japan, and voiced in Japanese. Even if it is anime styled... I still can't bring myself to consider it "Anime." Examples being Afro-Samarai and stuff like Ben 10.

So I vote "No" sonic is not an anime.
