guys/girls? which are more otaku?

hm...basically..this is a question NOT based on number, but based on the individual's dedication to anime. It would include stuff like---how one gets too involved with anime, how often they think of anime from sleep to awakening, how much time one spends for anime, how much sacrifices one has had to offer for anime, how one gets too obsessed to the extent of living like an anime character, how one rates or prioritizes anime....

Regardless of the fact that otaku males outnumber otaku females, between the two sexes, who is more passionate and too involved with the major otakuism syndrome?

I think it's the females... since i see a lot of girl cosplayers competing than guys. so it would only mean, more money spent (since for me, money is everything. LOL). so to the point of spending that much time and that much cash on anime, id say theyre more otaku... XD peace

I agree with elle cuz more girls tend to show their otaku-ness than guys (I openly admit I'm an otaku but I really dont show it that much) while I see alot of girls in our school who are otaku

I barely know any guys who are otakus but i know alot an i mean alot of girls who like anime most of them (surprisingly) draw thier own manga. I was amazed

...if a girl is an otaku and she accept that fact...she wont be embarrassed about showing her true self...
while boy in the same situation you cant tell if he is a real otaku or not...( in appearance)
... boy are open talking about anime...while girls are shy about it... (in socializing with other)

back in my highschool, i'm the only girl that i know (lolz) that is an otaku. and the rest are guys. most girls that i know, yeah, they watch pokemon, digimon, doraemon, and that stuff, but just because those were on tv and they don't like to talk about anime much. so mostly are guys are otakus.

He's right....the reason behind we can't notice clearly the female otakus is because of being shy...why on the other side...a male otaku let it appear that he watch anime.

I think that both are equal :S because I dont think that one gender can love anime more than the other just because you spend more money with meeting up is cosplays etc doesnt mean you watch it more you get involved more etc etc. It just means you like meeting up XD but yeah Id say that they are equal cause Im sure that there are exteme otaku's on both sides :)

Depends on how you define dedicated. Buying complete collections and looking extra edition rares or whatever, or just cosplaying with a couple of friends on a free day? Two different things.

Never cosplayed except at my 17th birthday party, and even then it was a group theme. Never bought anime merchandise, barring Ghost in the Shell, Monster and xxxHolic DVDs. I am not in a position to pass comment.

Then again, in other areas I find guys to be more of the obsessive collector. A old acquaintance of my [not very close] used to collect empty cigarette boxes. It was always disheartening to visit his house and see row upon row of pristine boxes, and know that there were no cigarettes. Very disturbing.

I'm a guy myself - although my friends call me a girl all the time because I lack some male 'characteristics'. Anyway, everyone I know that watches anime is a girl. And when some of my male friends watch anime it's because I forced them to. XD

But I don't think that how 'otaku' someone is depends on gender. It just depends on the person and that the differences in personality between boys and girls don't really influence how obsess- ehm, interested one may be in anime.

Well, I've seen more guys in love with anime than gals. Buuuut, take this into consideration:

Some girls are too ashamed to come out and admit that they like anime.

Although boys are more open to it, girls can be even more obsessed with it.. even though it's done in secret.

..I'm only saying this because I'm a girl ^___^ And it's been proven that I seem to watch more anime than most openly-made Otaku boys at my school.

As far as I know, I know more 'male' than 'female' otaku- however, of the girls I know, they can really, really obsess. Girl get away with having merchandise on obscene amounts because it's cute.

I think girls are more otakus than boys because I see a lot of them buying things of their favourite anime at those specialised stores selling manga-related things, while the boys I know are not only interested in anime but also have other interests like football, so they aren't diehard anime fans lol But that's only from what I see.

Guys do like to chat and talk about anime, usually action stuff, romance etc. So, I think they're the same. Girls and boys do like anime a lot, there's no doubt about that.

i spend my 1000pesos or 7000pesos allowance to buy different kinds of anime. when i'm at home i DON'T STUDY at all just to watch different kinds of anime that's still available here in my house or i haven't watched yet, i cram. I stay up until 4am in the morning 'coz i download anime. i don't cosplay though strict parents, i sometimes go to anime expos to picture 'coz imma amateur photographer.

As much as I like to say that its the guys who loves more anime. well i cant. because its the girls. Check otaku conventions and musicals/ concerts in youtube. 95% of the fans are girls.:D

I think Guys are more Otaku than Girls. I see more guys who buys anime stuffs and talks about it than girls. I haven't really seen a lot of female Otakus here in my place. Guys here, talk about anime, I mean, really talk, as In, Talk, that even us, girls who are not even listening in the first place, gets involved. That sort of thing, where even those who are not really showing their otaku-ness gets to show it. Most of them here, are the ones who buys games, anime videos and anime figures. I haven't seen a girl buying this stuffs. Well here, at least not yet.

Girls likes Cosplaying and stuff. While Boys are really into Anime. They Dont Hide their secrets of being an Otaku, they Talk Normally. While most of the Girls hides it.
