Guilty watching anime?

Have you ever felt guilty for watching too much anime, reading too much manga or even for playing too much games? For any reason?

I'm sure all of us would think that if we had the freedom to do these things, we would gladly do so especially without any nagging or disruptions.

However, since I don't have the freedom to do so... And sometimes even when I do... I feel guilty for watching anime... Thus making me just glare at the computer screen without doing anything, wasting my time... But that's the quality time with my computer at least, no programs open even.

I mean, I feel guilty. I mean, somewhere in my head, a voice says, "You could be doing more resourceful things than this." Even when I think that anime is the best and most resourceful thing...

How about you? Do you feel guilty, for any reason at all?

I totally understand. Everyone around me shuns watching anime and playing video games already, but its the worst when you finish a long anime series or realize that you've played a game for 20+ hours. You realize that you've wasted so much time doing essentially nothing and that time can no longer be made up for.

Whatever, I try not to think to hard...

I felt guilty, tons of times already. But apparently, temptation wins all the time.
I still watch anime even though I'm better off without it.
I've posted something like this before.
I'm not yet dependent on anime so I could stop but it was definitely my choice not to stop even when I have to.
However what I feel guilty about, most of the time at least, is that because of anime I'm not that close to my family anymore.
They have tried to understand me but that failed.
I've tried to help them understand me, but that also failed.
So in the end, I've willingly chosen to bury myself in the animes that I watch which in turn left the gap to large to bridge.

I don't see anime as something unhealthy, I mean it stimulates the imagination and all that, and if I wasn't watching anime, all I'd do with the time I would have spent watching would be sitting around in an empty room, so it's better than being bored.

not really, its because I have nothing else left to enjoy myself. when go out all I do is go look for animes
and when I'm on a date if my partner is not an otaku, it really turns to be a bad idea

I'm suppose to be preparing for college stuff but here I am in the OS forums.

I might say that I once felt the guilt of being an otaku but I didn't think of it anymore.
This is what I think...The negative effect should be ignored when it comes to my current life cause it was more better for me as of now.

when i watch anime to pause from doing much work and relax, then i feel guilty guilty since i will be doing more productive things than just watching...otherwise, on my free time i see no reason to feel guilty about it...^^

1. we should be happy watching anime rather than bad-taste hollywood films... so don't feel guilty.
2. if there is something to be guilty about, it is playing videogames. I sold my Nintendo DSi coz it is more disruptive than five anime episodes.
Sell your game consoles and have the money instead!
3. one hour of anime in a day is better than 6hours of anime every three days in a week (that is 6 times 3). limit watching to a maximum of 7hours in a week and lose that guilt.

......but then I think "NO, because anime is just way better then all this"..

we all love anime with a passion right. so let us have the freedom of doing so. as long as we don't neglect our responsibilities in the real world, then everything's milk and honey.
so don't feel guilty about it. even if you do, that's why it's called a guilty pleasure.

All the time! I spend as much free time as I can watching anime. It's kind of bad, I find.. I mean, I could be out either joy riding with one friend or out wreaking havoc with another but NO - I've decided to stay home and watch anime.

I mean.. it DOES keep me out of trouble and whatnot and it DOES stimulate my imagination and tickles my writer's hand. But.. you know.. at 16, I find I should be roaming society and doing something more productive than this.

Hmm can't say i feel guilty, as i'm not that much into anime to abandon everything else, and as long as i enjoy watching them i dont see why i should feel that way. It's a choice we make i dont see why we should feel guilty about it. If u dont like it than do something else it's at easy as that.

on vacation I can perfectly spend 18 hours in front of a computer before I get kicked out of it, but now that I have classes to attend and lots of works and projects to be done I feel I could be doing something else appart from watching anime, even if it is the one or two episodes per week I'm able to watch right now

Same here. My parent are both away, but for some reasons, i feel really guilty. I can't even imagine what i am doing. lol

This site helps me procrastinate. And then I wait around reloading the pages just in case something changes or updates since I've seen it last. That's definitely something I feel a pang of guilt over. But I still waste time anyway.

However, it is usually right after this thought that I notice it is around 2 in the morning, and not a shred of work has been done. I do always try to hide it from those around me that I watch anime. I feel like it really isn't that social accepted. However I do not feel that it is a waste of time. I think that there can always be something learned from anything and that includes anime too. Also I think it is very important to have some way in which you can relieve your stress, and for me anime is the best option.

I gave up 10+ year long habits on drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and coffee i may just have replaced all these with anime but i don't feel guilty it is the one vice i have left if you can call it that and i enjoy and i'm 32 now i'll probably be an Otaku for life and its ok.
