OneManga, a site with unauthorized, translated scans of manga (scanlations), has posted a Thursday notice to say that "this is the last week of manga reading" on the site. The site cited what it describes as a recent change in the manga publishers' "stance on manga scanlations." According to the notice, all content will be gone from the site by early next week.

OneManga ranked #935 on Google's list of the 1,000 most-visited sites on the web in May. Another manga aggregator, MangaHelpher, announced last month that it is removing links while it prepares to launch OpenManga, a new platform to allow manga creators to distribute their work digitally.

Gundam Plane's Maiden Voyage

The "ANA x Gundam Jet" features life-size Gundam images on the sides of the plane. Its first departure, from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Osaka's Itami Airport, was filmed in high definition by technology media firm IDG. IDG reported that the flight carried 500 passengers, many of whom appeared to be Gundam fans, and left at 1:19 p.m. on Friday, July 16. ANA CEO Shinichiro Ito announced that the plane will make stops "all around Japan" between now and spring 2011, but the plane is not scheduled for any international flights at this time.

ANA and Bandai announced the ANA x Gundam Jet project in June as part of the 30th Anniversary of the first Gundam plastic model kit. The Boeing 777-300 jet was painted with a life-size Gundam image "lying" on its back, as if the Gundam was being stowed aboard the White Base mobile suit carrier ship from the first Gundam anime series. Additionally, people who fly a domestic ANA flight from July 1 to August 31 can buy an ANA original color version of the High Grade 1/144 Gundam G30th plastic model kit. People who fly any ANA flight from July 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011 can buy an ANA original color version of the 1/48 Mega-Size Model Gundam.

Find people who are willing to lend out manga, thats what I do to supplement my limited space and funds. Alternatively, you can always go to the old stand-by by spending hours at the bookstore (I don't like the idea, but if you have to, well...).

Anyways, with all this website attacks in the belief it would raise revenue or help some way, wouldn't it also be more effective for publishers to give fans what they need and want in addition to the attacks? Like releasing series slightly faster and publishing more series (that are decent, not random crap some publishers give). And with anime, haven't they realized most of their fans prefer sub over dub, so they should stop dubbing things and make better subs? I don't know, but that's my though process anyways and it seems to make sense.

I sorta did a mini-announcement in the cb on the Onemanga closure... it's not just Onemanga though, i checked with other, less popular sites but they are also closing due to this...
Personally, I like reading manga online. I think that sites like Onemanga have really helped in the spread of manga culture throughout the world.

One Manga being one of the few first to be shut down is a sad thing to happen for all those who benefit from free online manga readings.This is more impacting to those who couldn't get hold of a copy of their favorites due to one or a combination of the following reasons:
[1] budget (not everyone can afford them)
[2] geographically impossible (unless you have large proportions of item 1)
[3] and language barrier (not everyone could read japanese).
I think they are the major things free online scanlated manga makes help bridge. It's not like we, otakus, wouldn't buy the original without reason.

I'll just reply about the ANA x Gundam project. I already said the things I want to say in the other thread..

Firstly, Its only a giant picture of a gundam??? THATS ALL?? I was hoping a fake flying gundam when I read the title of this thread.
it's not that I don't like the project, I was just hoping something more interesting. Although, those Boeing jets are insanely enormous if you do some comparison.
I wanna take a flight in that plane if I could, then I'd go to one of the passenger windows thats on the Gundam's body.
I think the way passengers get more out of buck is the opportunity to buy one of those model kits of original color version of the High Grade 1/144 Gundam G30th. I'd like to own one and display it in my room for show...LOL

I'm wondering what the next Gundam project will be?

Regardless whether this is bad news or meh news for some, the point is that OM has played a major part of a lot of peoples lives. I can't even imagine how many people with different races view this site daily, it is in the top 100 rank site globally. Sad to see them end their manga supply.

I don't think the publishers/producers of these mangas do not realised that doing this will not give them any more profits that last time.

1) Firstly because our country does not many english translated manga, and even if they do sell their mangas in our country, most of us cant read japanese well. (hence no profits)
2) Secondly, legal English publications takes a very long time to translate a manga. I've had experiences of waiting a new manga for a year
3) Unless they start selling their mangas to a wider audience other than japan, they will not get most of the profits that can be attained from us
4) As if cancelling manga sites will guarantee that people will start buying their purchases. I mean if we had their works already translated of course we will buy it. Gladly!
5) Even though it's piracy, it is not as severe as movie/game piracy as you can be sure that movies will be released sooner or later after its premier, and a game can be found in many electronic outlets. but for mangas, we can't even find them! I don't think all of us read only popular mangas, there are tons of awesome mangas just waiting to be found and sadly, they haven't (by legal publishers)
