Best way to end an anime?

What do you think is the best way to end an anime?
I like a bittersweet ending best, where it ends in a victory for the protagonists, but with them losing something precious to attain that victory (i.e. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Sousei No Aquarion).

That way you don't reliaze it ended and besides alot of times a few years the anime makes another batch or an OVA to tie it all up anyways.

No but really I think with the ambitions of the main character being compleated a anime can come to a smooth ending (though we do not want our animes to end)

the ending is all about the anime (the guy finaly get the girl, kills enemy, ends own life, and gets ultimate power stuff like that)so the question should be whats the best anime

I don`t have any real specific criteria for an ending. I`m fine as long as they don`t use any cheap endings that make you feel like you wasted your time watching it in the first place. I find that most animes are weakest at the ending for this reason.

Mine would depend on the genre of the anime, if it is comedy I'd rather end it with drama/tragedy, if it's drama/tragedy I'd rather end it with comedy, if it is neither or mixed drama-comedy, then I'd give it a bittersweet ending... but overall I like endings that give the satisfying aura, the ones like code geass, toradora!, ef ~a tale of memories~, and etc.

A happy yet sad ending or choosing a heroine(hate harem endings) or fight to the death or hero accomplished an objective.

Something unexpected. Something the viewer never saw coming,
but at the same time keeping them drawn to the story. Something that makes you want more.

Some anime these days are dragged out, and in the end it just ruins the story.

an epic ending!!! LOL. i love shounens, but i used to love shoujo more when i was a kid. Now my life is all bout shounens, and guess what----i'd love to have really epic endings where protagonists would have the last laugh among them all..! and i also want the heroes and heroines to be the strongest character in the storyline. course, it's a must for action-packed shounens, and id like to avoid as much deaths as the story can allow.

BEST WAY TO END AN ANIME IS TO NEVER END IT.

To be honest, I HATE it when animes end. No matter what, I always get depressed whenever an anime ends. Hm. Hanasakeru Seishonen was one of my favourite animes that, to my knowledge, I remember not being so upset about in the end. I like happy endings where everything works out properly and the last scene shows that everyone got what they wanted.

I'm really cheesy. If not everyone is happy, neither am I. >:|

Depending on the genre:

Romance= The protagonist and the heroine got married and there is an epilogue depicting them happily living together. (Just like the end of Haruka arc in Amagami SS)

Comedy= Really I don't want comedy anime such as Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series nor Miname-ke nor Seto no Hanayome to end but meh, comedy should always end with a gag that would make saddest person laugh.

Action/adventure=Really this ending is probably the most predictable. The protagonist gets stronger by training, fights the enemy, fights the second form of the enemy, wins by luck/or help by other supporting characters then end with a "the world is brought to peace again". The best ending for an action anime is something new or fresh, really action anime should have a despair end where all hope was lost even the "good people" tried their best to fight(Just like DtB). However fusing with other genre would be the right strategy to get an ending that fans would love.

Ecchi= Ecchi anime should end with harem. Sorry powerband

Drama= Tearjerker. Not from sadness and despair but with happiness and relief. Lamune would have the best ending for a drama anime for me. Meh, I haven't watched any KEY related anime so don't hold me back.

Overall= Endings should end without existing conflicts and elucidating everything from unsolvable mystery to foggy past to skipped events. Anime that fail to explain everything that happen may leave a bad "aftertaste" thus a fan would say there should be a sequel. Also I find that the BEST way to end an anime is to put an epilogue scene right after the credits roll. Usually I watch the whole ending song of the last episode of anime and I'm fond of this kind of racket.

I suppose everyone has their own preference of their own happy ending but personally, I prefer either a happy ending or an ambiguous one so that it allows the viewer to imagine what it would be like if the anime carried on.

The ending has to a good one. Like if it's an action one, let the hero save everyone with his last wish.

In romance ones, I love when the main girl and guy finally kiss and it ends... Let's you know that the two will be happy forever...

Depends, if it is action. The must save everybody, before his life end or after saving everybody. He turn around and leave the scene quietly without anybody notice him or her. By the time everybody notice he/her already gone with their business. If it is a love/drama, the guy must kiss the girl he always love

it depends on the type of anime and how the episodes flow preceding it.

some anime series just have an abrupt or annnoying ending or if its a funny harem they dont choose at the end and its lame.

it should tie things up, but still leave options for ovas or another season.

school days - eww

toradora - abrupt ending ~ need another seasn ^_^

This way we know its over and no one complains about there not being a second season since you can't make and new season based off of the nothingness left behind from the first

if romance, then a happy ending is needed for the couple.
if action, then victory
if supernatural, then succession.
if ecchi, then also a happy ending
if harem, a truly worthy girl, to have a happy ending

Wow... Sure it's a GOOD way to end it, but can't possibly be the best. It'd be better if said main character was dismembered and spoon fed food during a candle light dinner on the deck. I'm sure there are many things that can be done with a setting like that to make it ever so slightly more disturbing.

there is nothing more satisfying then to see the heroine of a series
witness a death of a loved one right before their eyes.
seeing the pain and suffering of others is what true moe~ is.
i guess i like too watch others suffer because it makes me feel better about my past.

it's complicate to end an anime, giving it a good ending is usually the hardest part, i'd prefer that it will never end, but i guess if you want to end it, at least leave something behind, so then maybe they can continue it in a no long future
