help! can someone help me? the books and online sources cant make me understand it.
to be specific:
what are the uses of statistics?
what are its importance?

my book is not really helping. it makes things more complicated

The meaning of statistics are numerical facts and figures used for mathematical calculations.

It's uses are actually very helpful information that makes our decision making alot easier.

Take for example a classroom filled with the same amount of girls and boys, now if there happened to be a contest of strength it is clear to assume that the boys will win because there are sufficient proof to back it up. it is shown that 80% of the strongest people on earth are male.

But if it was a contest of beauty then its typical that the girls win because study show that girls are the ones most likely to be focused on their physical appearance.

*Now, I don't know if this post is of any help since your probably confused right now but statistics are actually pretty easy to learn if you have the right sources.

Statistics helps you get a general idea of data.
Sports use a lot of statistics to help judge who is a good player
Batting Averages, Homerun Count, Running Speed, etc.
One statistic on OS is the number of Users online at anytime
OS can use that statistic and judge how much bandwidth (internet speed) it needs to keep up with all the people streaming at once

Basically its organizing data so that its useful.
