I found this site recently and I've been testing it out. Its really really nice!

You can basically customize your desktop in so many ways. So far its very clean and doesn't take up much memory at all.
I used it to replace the google desktop clock and even rocketdock.
It takes awhile to code though and if you are planning to customize it, it might take you a bit to learn. The learning curve is even steeper if you aren't too great with coding. If you are fluent in a computer language, like HTML, JAVA, C++, this is basically like OO codes in a HTML format kinda sense and it would be very easy to get used to.
If your not that great at coding, then you can still use the skins.
