OMFG!!... Even Google?? Why are they trying to ruin the Internet D:

Google has deleted a site hosting lolicon material from its index in response to a complaint that the site was hosting child pornography.

The site in question hosts scanlated loli manga, and was reported to Google as a site hosting child pornography. Google removed the site from its index (the site itself is quite unaffected) and reported the site to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as is its obligation under US law.

However, at least one current US definition of child pornography explicitly excludes artistic depictions:

This definition does not apply to depictions that are drawings, cartoons, sculptures, or paintings depicting minors or adults.

Other definitions (there are a wide variety of conflicting statutes) which do not exclude 2D material are usually said to be unconstitutional but have generally gone unenforced and unchallenged, giving lolicon material a murky legal status.

Google apparently did not concern itself with such subtleties and simply removed the site, leaving a standard ?deleted results? disclaimer in its place.

The site itself has now been removed from the indexes of all Google servers, raising additional concerns over the global censorship of results based on US law alone.

You can Read more by Clicking this Spoiler Tag...

With Google seemingly acknowledging it has a duty to delete millions of sites with "loli" material, irrespective of their legality wherever they might be published, it would appear it will either have to back down or begin systemically delisting huge swathes of the Japanese Internet (recall that even mainstream publications like Shonen Jump freely publish lewd depictions of underage characters), to say nothing of the wider Internet.

In fact, practically any illustrated depiction of sexual activity could be branded child pornography if this approach were taken to extremes, few could reasonably claim to be able to tell the difference between a 17-year-old cartoon and an 18-year-old one. Abusive and excessive use seems all but inevitable.

Others have pointed out that with the site in question already hosting material in violation of publisher copyright, artists and publishers are likely to be especially ambivalent about pressing the matter with Google lest they end up supporting piracy of their own works, clearly it would have been more desirable for such a test case to be unencumbered by copyright violation as well.

Google's "do no evil" policy has largely been left in tatters since its abortive dalliance with the Chinese government, but with the introduction of an apparent system of anonymous child pornography denunciations with no legal basis it appears set to become even less credible.

While I'm not a huge fan and usually feel disgusted for about .03028 seconds after possibly using loli as a means to erect a tower of male justice, its about the same after I use any form of material that anyone above the age 12 looks at at least weekly regardless of will =o... oh well on the (w)hole I suppose loli can be kinda ambigous but If nothing else I think I can agree with you when It should'nt be banned or deleted... Im glad im not the only person with a sankanku complex =D... please tell me Im not the only one who thought of that minor pun ;.;

Hmmm.... I think that is unfair all in all. Since when are real children have been exploited in loli? As far as I know, it just "instigates" it but I leave that to another topic. Google is just trying to make itself look good for China since it is a big market. I mean China is a target of any company who likes to earn big since it has the biggest population but I think they're crossing the line. Oh sure they might get China but they'll have problems with the Japanese and otakus like us. If they continue I suggest we go to war! LOL

Hmmmm ... I detest Lolicon in any form and find it truly disgusting that people could even fantasize of children in a sexual context, even it is just a drawing or 3D image.
There are two very clear school's of thought that 1) even artistic depictions can increase pedophilia or 2) use of such materials will only reduce actual crime against children

However, in this world of business and internet culture, Google has all the right to ban whatever site they want and people on the other hand have all the right to switch to other search engines. So its pointless getting all hot under the collar..

.Laws have been enacted to criminalize "obscene images of children, no matter how they are made," for preventing abuse. An argument is that obscene fictional images portray children as sex objects, thereby contributing to child sexual abuse. This argument has been disputed by the claim that there is no scientific basis for that connection, and that restricting sexual expression in drawings or animated games and videos might actually increase the rate of sexual crime by eliminating a harmless outlet for desires that could motivate crime. This is exemplified in a case involving a man from Virginia who asserted at his arrest that after viewing lolicon at a public library, he had quit collecting real child pornography and switched to lolicon.

Cultural critic Hiroki Azuma said that very few readers of lolicon manga commit crimes. In the otaku culture, lolicon is the "most convenient [form of rebellion]" against society.

Milton Diamond and Ayako Uchiyama observe a strong correlation between the dramatic rise of pornographic material in Japan from the 1970s onwards and a dramatic decrease in reported sexual violence, including crimes by juveniles and assaults on children under 13. They cite similar findings in Denmark and West Germany. In their summary, they state that the concern that countries with widespread availability of sexually explicit material would suffer increased rates of sexual crimes was not validated and that the reduction of sexual crimes in Japan during that period may have been influenced by a variety of factors they had described in their study.

Sharon Kinsella observed an increase in unsubstantiated accounts of schoolgirl prostitution in the media in the late 1990s, and speculated that these unproven reports developed in counterpoint to the increased reporting on comfort women. She speculated that, "It may be that the image of happy girls selling themselves voluntarily cancels out the other guilty image."

A Japanese non-profit organization called CASPAR has claimed that lolicon and other anime magazines and games do encourage sex crimes. The group, founded in 1989, campaigns for regulation of depiction of minors in pornographic magazines and video games. Public attention was brought to bear on this issue when Tsutomu Miyazaki kidnapped and murdered four girls between the ages of 4 and 7 in 1988 and 1989, committing acts of necrophilia with their corpses. The Tokyo High Court ruled him sane, stating that "the murders were premeditated and stemmed from Miyazaki's sexual fantasies," and he was executed by hanging for his crimes on June 17, 2008.

Public sentiment against sexual cartoon depictions of minors was revived in 2005 when a convicted sex offender, who was arrested for the murder of a seven-year-old girl in Nara, was suspected as a lolicon. Despite media speculation, it was found that the murderer, Kaoru Kobayashi, seldom had interest in manga, games or dolls. He claimed, however, that he had become interested in small girls after watching an animated pornographic video as a high school student. He was sentenced to death by hanging.

According to Michiko Nagaoko, director of a non-profit organization in Kyoto called Juvenile Guide, founded in 2003, approximately half of the 2,000 pornographic animation titles distributed in Japan every year, including films and video games, feature schoolgirl characters.

On March 11, 2008, UNICEF Japan issued a statement calling for further tightening of child pornography laws in Japan, including the ban of sexual depictions of minors in manga, anime and computer games. Such a ban, however, is not being considered by Japan's officials for the time being

I think this is getting ridiculous... now even loli is getting banned... when they can be using their time to ban real child pornography instead, they end up banning artwork??!

Hopefully only 1 site is affected and not all.

Better still, this gets contested in court and that lamer that reported it loses the case. (since this is about law anyway)

I am going to have to disagree with you comment about Google removing the site from their list servers. I went to the site that you talked about in your post and I can say for sure that there are drawn pictures of young girls (under the age of 10) in the middle of performing sexual acts with men at least in their twenties. The pictures were censored-- if you can call it censorship-- however these pictures were not designed for art, they were designed to sexually stimulate. While no actual humans were harmed; I must put forth that people can only harm themselves by viewing such material.
Also I must say that not every picture on the site was like the few that I came across; I even found some of the pictures interesting and skillful drawn. I also feel the need to say that at least 95 percent of the site was not child porn; however I personally do believe that Google was justified in their actions.
Also I must point out that Google is a very powerful corporation, they even have the power to shift US domestic policy. If you doubt this fact you only need to look in the news to see that in the last six mounts Google has denied the US government information on the grounds of invasion of privacy. (They told the United States to take a hike.) Things such as the number of searches for sites that do not show the ruling party in a positive light, and also the states and cities in which these searches took place. It is also true that Google also gives a large amount of data to the Government, however the point that I am trying to make is that if Google truly did not care about child porn on the web they would not have taken action. After all Google is not owned by the government and the idea that they are under a world wide conspiracy to crush free-thinking artists because their subject matter is underage is just foolish.
The facts are that the site in question did have on their pages (poorly censured) displayed; nude girls (defiantly under ten) performing sexual acts, the drawings are not meant to show some political satire, or to deeply move ones' heart. The pictures were meant to be used as sexual stimulation. The fact of the matter is Google just did what they thought needed to be done.

Do not click the spoiler if you do not want an explicit description of what i saw in the picture.

The picture shows a girl of about ten years old sucking the penis of an older man. In the next picture it shows the man's penis in the vagina of the young girl. The girl looked as though she was in enjoying the experience. Does that sound like art?

Yup... Why Ban the art loli's... just Ban the real Child-P sites... I mean.. Come on....

for those people that still doesn't get the real meaning in this topic.. its not a site that google deleted... its a list of sites in their site index... if your not familiar with google's site indexing please use wiki.....

They can and do ban that as often as possible. Google has baned this particular site because of a portion of the pictures that are displayed; while i don't have a problem with all loli I can say for sure that some is child porn. Do i think all should be banned? No; however there needs to be an effort to keep explicit acts out of loli. That being said sites should make an effort to keep loli to art and only art. That means keeping pictures that are designed to sexually stimulate out of their galleries. That means no penetration of any kind, no oral sex, and no older men or women should be allowed to be in the picture - so no people of age participating in sexual acts with people that are under age.

I will post wherever I want.... however if you would like you can ask one of the admins to ask me to not post here and I will comply. Why? Because it is their site and they have the ability to do whatever they wish.

And about the part that i don't like loli; well that is only part true. I like the art loli not the porn loli. I have a pic on my desk top that could be considered loli. The reason i like it as art is because it gives off the feeling that the character portrayed should be feared and respected. Also the character shows grate grace and poise and holds herself with confidence. The picture is not meant to sexually stimulate, but is meant to produce an emotional response like the one i just described. http://otaku-streamers.com/community/picture.php?albumid=363&pictureid=7830

Anyone heard of mangafox and onemanga removing mature series or smth?
Appearently mangafox has removed a lot of manga series from their normal access database, supposedly to be mature only, but apparently not.
I write this here cause I couldn't find a thread to discuss this.

O right, back to loli sites, in fact the site that was affected didn't only get banned by google. Some other sites (I know at least 1) had to cut affiliations with the related site on their website or else the website will be closed down by their site providers or smth. And some other loli sites may be facing problems from their advertisers or smth (like in the case of mangafox and maybe MU too- note that these 2 are just normal sites, I'm referring to them cause they face advertisers' or smth probs as well)

And about the google issue it's quite controversial. There google leaves China cause China censored stuff and here they censor stuff themselves. Quite hypocritical. But the force behind this decision may not be quite simple. Business partners, the government, authoritative people, UNICEF etc. may be involved. My suggestion is that if you wanna search for this kind of stuff or any other stuff that seem to be against google's interests use another search engine. After all, google is but one search engine and company. And all companies have their pros and cons.

Please explain to me what is appealing about loli.

From my perspective as a sexually abused child, I do not understand the fascination at all.

Children have no idea whats being taken away from them when an adult comes onto them sexually.

They have no idea the person they trust is betraying their innocence, and is stealing something irreplaceable.

They're at an age when they can easily be molded into a proud, loving person or scared
to trust anyone for the rest of their lives.

I must say that I agree Google should ban any trace of child pornography even if its animated or drawn.

But, I am willing to say I don't know much about loli and maybe google doesn't either.

but if it is indeed sexual acts performed by children then I'm definitely for the ban or at least

strong filter on searches.

It kills me some people get off on that.

So that's why all the loli references were vanishing from google...

I'm not against the ban since it was preferably banned from some countries years ago. Google has all the right to remove or censor things they deem inappropriate and are offensive.
