I thought you really could dig a hole through the world and end up in China (it's been calculated out that you'd probably end up in the middle of the ocean).

I thought animals could speak, but they didn't because they'd only do it when it was of vital importance (like a life or death situation). I thought trees spoke, too, but human ears are too weak to hear what they're saying.

It was partly my father's fault, but I was deathly afraid of air conditioning vents in the ceiling. I always thought there was some creature living in the attic that would watch me through them, stalk me throughout the house, and watch me in my sleep.

The creature in the closet and under my bed were also dangers. And it was ok if had only my reading light on, but if I had that and the bedroom light on at the same time, they'd more readily attack me. I don't know where that one came from, but even now, I feel uncomfortable if I have both on at once.

Hahaha - the one about digging a hole and ending up in China - I forgot that I had that one too and actually started digging a hole and unfortunately since we were living in a rented house, my mum got in trouble with the land lady as I actually managed to somehow create quite a crater over time!! I think I was around 6 -7

I too used to think that you could actually dig a hole to China, and was also afraid of the monsters in the closet and under the bed. I used to tie my closet doors shut with a shoelace, and I'd line all my stuffed animals around my bed. As long as I was in their line of protection, I'd be okay. Also, my best friend in elementary school told me if I slept with my windows open, a burglar would come into my house and kill me O.o This really sucked cause my mom always left the windows open at night.

I also believed in Santa for sometime. My grandfather told my sister and I that Santa's elves actually used their attic to help make toys, cause there wasn't enough room up at the North Pole, so a couple of times a year, my sister and Iwould leave chips and beer out for them ~_^

Well, they make them outside of the bottle so that the sails/masts can fold down. That way, it'll fit through the opening. Once the folded ship is put in, then the craftsman pulls the sails into an upright position with a string or something.

I used to think that to make a baby, you just eat some sort of medicine which plants a baby in your stomach (yuck). Once it got too big, you just pooped it out like some sort of turd. And then you just fish it out of the toilet. I was a bit confused when my brother was born and we had to go to a hospital. "Why not just poop out my new baby brother in the bathroom like normal people?" I wondered.

Surprisingly, after ten years have past since my brother was born, I still remember that I lost the "It's a Boy!" balloon that my dad entrusted to me.

Also i was certain, that when you eat anykind of seed that thing would start to grow inside you. ( watermelons etc.) So i was afraid to eat seeds.

this is actually a beautiful story yoyoyo.. i actually might use this when i have kids if they cry when they let go of a balloon.

now speaking of "Misconceptions" ive had 2 really big ones from the age of 5 untill 22 (just recently) when i decided to give myself the gift of advanced google searches O_<

1. Toasted or cooked things have less calories/carbs than their cold/raw equivalent (this is actually not true =o even my mom had this as her religion.. so now shes an atheist =( )

2. drinking cold water with or after greasy meals promotes to certain forms of cancer. (im from a family that just happened to have the japanese way to eat meals. sure it was not japanese to us but wut i mean is, drinking tea/warm beverages with our meals)
(this is also false >_>..)

Yep - remember that one too. My brother was 4 years my senior and when I was very young and I accidentally swallowed a pumpkin seed, he told me it would grow into a plant and come sprouting out of my ears, nose and mouth.

I was terrified for weeks until I realised the danger had passed and thereafter was terrified of eating anything with seeds till my mum corrected me.

gah i have seen this thread pop up so many times i practically feel obligated to share. when i was in kindergarten everyone in the class had body buddies which were students from 6th or 7th grade that would hang out with us. we played games like basketball and did arts and crafts with our body buddies. so with out getting to off topic the misconception i had that was tied to this story is i thought that these older kids who were much taller than me would always be taller than me. i thought that as much as i kept growing i would always literally be looking up at people who were older than me. i'm sure there are other misconceptions i had as a child but for whatever reason that one is the most clear.

My misconceptions...there were five big ones...an some of 'em are funny...an some are cute.

Before I was 8, I had the misconception that winter happened simultaneously all over the world. (I live in Canada, winters are generally 6-7 months long out of the year) So...I was always playing in the snow and imagining kids all over playing in the snow.

When I was 9, I developed my first crush, an my misconception was that I would end up with her, so I kept a notebook of plans and all that, it was kinda' cute...in a very weird way. Needless to say....nothing ever came out of it...

Finally, my biggest misconception: I was only 6 years old at the time. But all I wanted in the world was to write, make stories. And have those stories become reality (Similar to that movie with Adam Sandler...I believe?) An...I believed that somewhere, the characters I created were living their lives in some part of the world. My imagination used to run wild an...well I created a whole new place for people to play, live, love,laugh, cry, an all sorts of things. An of course I got older an that misconception was...dashed. I kind of wish it hadn't, though.
