A couple of choices that you'll probably like.

Guin Saga, pretty much what you described, it picks up pace after the first couple of episodes.

Gantz modern day/sci-fi, it definitely has both action, violence not to gory.

Fairy tail, it has the elements you are looking, it is a bit to the comedy side.

How about some Poke'mon ?

That's got a lil' violence in it :P

I remember the first Poke'mon movie. This evil Pikachu clone pimp-slapped the original one -- repeatedly! I was like "OHNOES!" and then I cried....

Man, glad I was the only one in the theater :P

My fovarite from the fantasy genre would be 12 kingdoms (Juuni Kokuki) by far :)

Maybe Tales of the Abyss,Fate/stay night,or Shakugan no Shana o: Or try Bakemonogatari,not too "magical" but it does have mystical things in it somewhat

Fairy tale is just the one for you action, magic, comedy. truly one of the new ones that are good. PLus the manga is like over 200 so you can always check it out.
