Uploaders... we Salute You!

Well I just started as an uploader on this site and am right now in the process of converting my first series and I just have to say I had absolutely no idea how much time you guys put into uploading anime at this site... its simply staggering.

For those of you who do not know, it takes me on my brand new fast PC about 47 minutes to convert 1 episode of Shakugan no Shana, then another 15-20mins to upload it to MU, then have either Chiva or Jimmy (or any other site mod) has to check that that upload was ok and that it can be streamed before it comes to us, the simple viewers. So for 1 25 minute episode it takes roughly 70 minutes of constant work.

I know a certain Queen of Chat who on her first stint as uploader uploaded 75 episodes of an anime... which took her just over 2 weeks to finnish.

I also know a certain site mod uploaded 80% of the sites 5000 video's.


This in short is my personal way of say a heartfelt thanks to all the uploaders and site mods... I salute you my dear friends.

Further investigation tells me that K Chiva and Jimmy all have 1mb connections, I have a 24MB that means it took them 24x longer for them to download these anime series and uploaded them on the site... its simply staggering, you guys are truly what makes this site awesome, not just for uploading these anime's but for being the amazing and totally awesome people you are, I cannot truly convey how appreciative I am for you guys making this site.

Further research concludes that the average anime episode is around 55mb in size, so those three I mentioned before have uploaded around 783GB of anime, on a speed of 1mbps, (that's download not upload, me with my 24mb download connection gets an upload speed of 1mbps, for them its got to be something akin to 200kbps if that) that's just staggering, you guys should really really appreciate all the hard work these guys have put into this site.

And this is just the time it takes to upload the finished product, add converting to the equation, and the mind is further boggled.

What Kai says is true. Not all countries have fast internet like us. 1mbps maybe one of the affordable fastest connection in some countries, and some has 14mb as its lowest and cheapest.

I definitely idolize all the uploaders out there. I truly look up to you guys. especially those who really have alot of uploads. I must admit, i am having a hard time being an uploader because of the continuously decreasing numbers of anime to upload (*sob*), and the stress it gives my computer. But as one of the freeloaders here, i must do what i can to help this site.:) ALL HAIL UPLOADERS. ALL HAIL OS~

Thanks but in my opinion, my personal hero in uploading videos in OS is Bindu.

She downloads all anime with her 1mb connection (but in reality its more of like 768kbps) everyday (that is 80-90kbps download 25-30kbps upload). She converts them with her old IBM laptop which takes 20 mins in AlltoAvi and 40-60mins in Bencos which is roughly an hour per episode to convert. Once everything is converted, upload them in MU which recently for some reason, the resume upload is not functional anymore. So sometimes when the internet disconnects(which happens often), she has to start all over again.

But what is amazing to me is how she can keep this up even though she has a very busy job. The dedication required to find time in a busy schedule everyday to download/convert/upload is inspiring, at least to me. Even if she is not feeling well, coming home late from work, she will not be able to sleep unless she does her everyday routine in uploading.

I don't know about you guys but to me it takes a lot of dedication to go out your way to walk the extra mile in uploading.

.mkv -> .avi = 35mins
.avi -> .mpeg = 40mins
Finish product --> megaupload = 40mins

total per episode = roughly 2hrs for me per episode (for series tasking it took an hour per episode)

it is rough you know. i know what you feel

but it is fun to help the community

Ok after reading through some parts.
I. am. amazed. Really, uploaders work really hard O_O I actually planned on being an uploader once but I lost hope since it takes too much time. I'm not that busy but I'm just that lazy.
Uploaders are busy but they still take the time to download, convert, and upload. But even without knowing this, I am still grateful for all the uploaders out there since they make OS possible.
I am ashamed at myself for once thinking that uploading is easy.

I completely understand what you mean. I've helped a bit with some episodes here and there and it does take a lot of time and effort. This is why I don't give our up-loaders a hard time and if something is broken I would like to bring it to their attention with a little note attached saying this isn't a priority and very much thanks to their time and efforts. Back when I was nothing but a newbie here, mainly the first few days I was a member, I had encountered the uploader thread. In fact, that particular thread is as old here in OS as I am. I fancied myself to help the site, but then have the limited options presented to me. To say I was very discouraged is an undersatement.

I could be a donator - here is a link for the Donation page (http://otaku-streamers.com/community/misc.php?do=donate color=#00ff00) - , but I don't have an access to an on-line account for that.

I could become an active forum poster, but then again I am not really fond of posting my ideas, and I was a bit wary of replying to every thread back then since the site is still not as known. An illogical move and way of thinking, I know, but that is just me being myself.

I dreamt to become a moderator but alas! I am not good with that kind of responsibiity especially the only way of communicating back then are the forums and Private Messaging. As I am not active in the forums, I could hardly volunteer for any of the moderation work needed to be done.

I could technically 'advertise' the site by telling my friends to make it more known but I have a handful of them and not many are as interested in anime as I. And that was the only way I know how to advertise back then.

And then there was being an Uploader.

At first, I was intrigued by it, then the curiosity grew. Then I knew that it might be the answer to my fervent wish of helping the site. It is, but my situation didn't allow me to.

There were only a few anime titles back in those days, around a hundred or so. The site doesn't even have a lot uploaders. I said to myself I'll try to become one. I went on to a helpful thread made by avich-san and was overwhelmed by the detailed work it entails.You could even check it out for yourself, fellow member.

Here is the How to become an Uploader Thread (http://otaku-streamers.com/community/showthread.php?78-How-to-upload) that gives the basics needed on becoming an uploader.

With the limited amount of computer usage time I was allowed back then - a max of 2 hours a day - and a slow internet connection - enough to stream some anime episode (at most 4 each time) but not download, it would be impossible even if I do have my motivation. One could even say I lost my dedication right there and then.

In a way, I knew a good future is within reach of this site. The community flourished - a lot more members are active in the forums section even if it isn't a majority of the total community ppopulation. The amount of videos available grew as the number of uploaders unsteadily but surely increased.

I was happy it did but had been saddened I was not able to help in any way. I can't still donate, still haven't been active because of some fear, still can't handle any responsibility inolving a site especially since the community had grown so big, and still wasn't able to become an uploader.

For the past two years of membership, I had accomplished nothing to help this site aside from the ever present morale support.

I might not have seen this thread before it was pointed out to me yesterday, but maybe it isn't as too late as I think it is to say THANK YOU!

I thank everyone who made this site possible. True, the Uploaders gets the first priority here being this a thread for them after all, but I wouldn't limit it to that.

I thank the Administrators for their hard work in maintening the technical stuff and handling the big issues in the site. I thank them for being approachable as well for not all those in power are that.

I thank the only Support Administator here, for being as dedcated as she can be in helping this community.

I thank the Moderators, the Chat Moderator, the Video Moderators, the Anime Moderator, the Tech Support staff, and the Super Moderators for always keeping the community as welcoming, helpful and a place we Otakus can be at home.

Thank you my fellow 'ordinary' members - the Juniors, the Regulars and those who actually post a lot, the Citizens - for keeping the site lively and usually on its metaphorical toes.

Thank you to the Donators for helping the community maintain its continued existence.

Which format do they upload in? 47mins for 25min episode? that was converting time for me back in 03 lol. I use a program called handbrake to convert my anime but thats to MKV and super fast i would upload idk what the requirements are for uploading im sure my upload speed is enough 25mbps up verizon fios :)

I agree I have to give my thanks to all of the Uploaders of OS,and the people who help point us in the directions of anime we want to see. It really irritates me when people with no patience asks when next episodes and going to be uploaded and have no idea how much pressure and time you consume doing this for the site. You guys put in so much effort
