Well I been thinking at this 3 windows what is the better many said Windows 7 is better yet it don't accept some other CD

Positive:

Windows XP
-the most usual window been using at the time
-they accept all CD accept the broken one
-it's easy to use

Windows Vista
-one of the newest windows
-it have some function that Windows XP and Windows 7 don't have
-complicated to use but good if you learn how

Windows 7
-the newest windows
-they say windows 7 can turn a computer to a touch
-the most complicated but the best windows
-when you install this windows this already got all (Own Anti-virus(avira) and many more)

Side effect/Negative:

Windows XP:
-is cheap
-use by low specs computer
-and usually a normal windows requirements

Windows Vista:
-so hard to find
-this can only be seen 2 out of 5 computer shop in main city
-its so complicated

Windows 7:
-definitely at the time they only have BETA version
-can only be seen .5 out of 5 computer shop in main city
-so complicated and don't have the full version at the time

So which do you prefer??

Remove Vista on your list of choices.

I prefer Windows XP, on XP, you can also run a HD game, just be sure you have a good hardware like processor & video card and software like latest Direct X & etc. that supports the game. XP is simple, that's all...

Well on the Windows 7, I don't know much about it, you can watch review videos on YouTube so you can see what's the feature of the software and what's new on it.

PLEASE CLICK "SHOW" AND READ... =D

I will order a computer that run Windows 7 on Wednesday.

I favor everyone to check the specs below if it is a good one or not, I'll accept your comments. Thanks in advance! =D

7 is so much better than Vista and is slightly better than XP.

7 has much simpler networking abilities and rarely has compatibility issues. The problem with XP is that much of the software is outdated and it is far more easier to crash than 7.

And it is NOT the most complicated windows. It is the EASIEST windows. When I used to setup networks I had to input the IP address in the IPv4 manually most of the time. Sharing a hardware over the network, such as a printer, too ages. In windows 7, its just "allow printer" -done.

Its not the features that matter, windows 7 has LESS features than Vista. Vista was a bloat-ware. 95% of its features were not used by the majority of the users. It took up space and slowed down the computer. Most of the "cool" features that are used on 7 were already on Vista Areo.

EDIT: Also you listed in the pros of windows 7 that it comes with an antivirus. Thats not true, it does not come with an antivirus program besides Windows Defender which Vista had also.
You have to get a stand alone antivirus program.
When you reinstall windows 7, it doesn't come with any programs, not even the lastest version of Flash or Adobe Reader

I have a full version of Windows 7 and I believe its the best OS out there. It consists of easy configurations and auto-tweaking. They don't have beta anymore.. Windows 7 accepts everything, it only depends on your cd-rom drive. Its complicated either.

@Darkpoetry. Taking up space was not its problem. The price of having a huge change to make it modern is space. Who cares about space nowadays. Most computers come out with gigantic spaces. Heck I've been given 145gigs(x2) and I only used 45 gigs of it. Music/school/games. Yeah you name it. and MOST of the features in Vista were used. 95% cmon man, that's over exaggerating. I'd say everything there was considered helpful, its just the knowledge of computer literacy varies from people out there. And I KNOW A LOT of them aren't that literate.

darkpoetry

95% is not over exaggerating, its actually underestimating.
From what I know, most people don't even know about how many features there are so my guess is 95%.
Then theres the stuff I don't know about so it will probably go up to like 97-98%.
Why? Because 95% of the features requires a manual or an IT pro level of experience to use.
Tell me, how many "feature" of windows vista did you use?
How many features do you even know about?
From driver settings to networking to BIOS to security features to hardware compatibly (printer, projector, VGA settings) to software compatibly to language settings.
If you remember the XP control panel, how many of those options did you even touch?

Now look at the win 7 control panel... 7 sections, just 7.

Vista Basic takes approximately 30GB of space, goes up to 40GB after all the updates.
I never said that space is the issue, but the standard HDD space when Vista came out was around 120GB on a notebook, which means your system was taking 1/3 of your HDD.
Its the simple fact that its so huge that it left room for errors, many many errors which Vista had. It was not a clean OS.
The problem with bloatware is that its slow and takes too much memory in the background. Thats EXACTLY what vista did and why everyone hated it.
When I installed 7 Pro, it got rid of 30GB of space. 30GB of unneeded, unused space.

This is going to be a bias thread.

I don't think either Operating System/Version/Architecture is better than the other. They do what they need to do, and that is operate the flippin' system. Everything after that is just individual preference and circumstances.

I'm used to Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit, so I guess I'm partial to that one instead. It does what it needs to do for my particular situation, and I am not looking to upgrade.

I also wouldn't start a thread about loyalty to your favorite OS due to not being able to play a disc...lol.

Vista should be overlooked at all costs.

XP or 7. Depends on if you want cheap and convenient, or the latest thing. Either one is good. I run XP and my brother runs 7. Things seem to run much better since he upgraded from Vista.

heres my opinion.
windows by microsoft just fluctuates what is good and what is not.

let me give you a history

windows (the very first kind with version 3.0 or less)
is quite good. the very first OS that has a mouse and coool interface
(watch gundam wing and you know what i mean)

Windows NT (1995)
not that really good. just a little better than windows 3.0

Windows 95
wow it has good interface and has internet explorer.
You get to use cd rom and so on.

windows NT 4.0
not so good.

windows 98
better and has control alt delete for hanging apps.

windows ME
not so good they just made it shiny and colorful.
it wasnt a good hit in the market.

Windows XP
so far the best operating system in the planet up to date.

Windows Vista
same as windows ME, just a shiny texture windows.

Windows 7
so far has the potential to be the best operating system.
has xp compatibility if you have apps that run only on xp

you decide!

Windows 7 is by far the best. Vista isn't really an option because Windows 7 just took all the bad things about vista and fixed them. 7 is really just the better version of XP and Vista. And I dont know where u live but where i live u cant find Xp anymore and can find 7 everywhere

When Vista was first released, it really had a lot of issues. It was not compatible with the drivers and was basically sluggish. But after its first SP update, it got a lot better and more stable. Most users who used vista since their SP1 update had no complaints and I believe the current Vista is a good stable OS.

I didn't use XP until they updated it to SP1. I had always sticked to 98 because it was fast and stable. But after a while and a lot of microsoft updates, XP is rock hard stable (if you know how to configure it).

Windows 7. This is my operating system now. Windows 7 platform is based on windows 2008 security and windows Vista GUI. It is really secure, snappy and haven't encountered a problem with it. Its networking capabilities is excellent and response time fast. For me, it is the easiest and most convenient windows operating system to date (its search and taskbar is amazing :) )

Most of the compatability issues can be resolved by completely disabling UAC. If not, I just run on it on the Virtual Box XP (like VB 6.0).

Networking them is so easy now. I basically just control two computers on the laptop :)

Agreed, Windows 7 networking is how it should have always been, fast and simple.

But I would like to mention that I had BAD BAD memories with vista SP1.
I went on a trip and took over 2000 pictures over the course of 6 months and I saved it all to my laptop. The location I was at had no internet access so I didn't update my laptop for those 6 months. When I came back I saw that there was SP1. Since it was the priority update, windows updated it first... only to make my system crash with a blank black screen. It had deleted all the old system files and crash right before installing the new ones...

When I contacted support they said it was hopeless to restore.

Had to remove the HDD to get all the data then install vista from a CD...

No, it relies on its compilers. If you're running on 7 and there are programs that are not properly running on it, you can let it run on windows xp sp3 compatability mode. Works all the time.

I am actually a technician that perform home repairs
(again not my real job. this is just a sideline)

Based on my personal experience, upgrade the windows xp (whatever service pack) to Windows 7 and they are both in same speeds.

Reason being?

Windows 7 has process management and memory management.
It is capable of handling your pentium 3 or higher to be able to carry the OS.
It is also stripped down the background programs running in Vista.
More like an upgraded Vista turned into 7 with easy functionality of Windows xp

My primary desktop is running on windows xp since i have relatives who are not familiar with navigation of windows vista or 7
(granny attacks or stone aged folks)
so I don't upgrade it.

I use windows 7 on laptop computers and Windows vista is not even in my mind.

Try the ultimate challenge. Upgrade your windows xp to windows 7 and speeds doesnt vary.
Boot time, Logonui, anything.

And yes, if Windows Xp runs on pentium 3, it will run in Windows 7.

Desktop pentium 3 with upgraded memory that is,
P3 laptops are still heck slow.
No matter how much praying you do, they wont go fast anymore.

I've actually had the full version of windows 7 professional OS six months before it was released through my university engineering department and it once in awhile had compatibility issues so compatibility mode isn't full proof. Older versions of windows also had compatibility mode but those too had trouble.

I know of a few programs which ran fine in XP which can't be run on 7 even in compatibility mode, one of them being my favorite music player and sound effects application. Probably due to how 7 communicates with the sound drivers since changing versions/updating sound drivers didn't work.

My Symatec antivirus initially designed for XP also wasn't compatible until they released another version over six months later (right before 7 was made public).

A few software programing (C++, Java, etc) applications also had compatibility issues from what I heard from other CS and CSE majors.

From my experience if your program doesn't run on 7 when you first try it, it usually doesn't run in compatibility mode too.

BUT, like 95% of the time your program will work just fine.
The 5% are usually software which is outdated or uncommon.

Windows XP cannot run Windows 7 apps
But Windows 7 can run Windows XP apps

Ironically theres currently more software XP can run that 7 cant compared to the amount of software 7 can run that xp cant.

Mainly because 7 is relatively knew and all windows based software companies design applications which, if it can run on 7, should be able to run on xp and vista as well. If they made programs that ONLY run on 7 then they are losing a huge portion of the windows users.

Its true that you can more easily access underlying features on XP. On 7 they simply hid the options from the general users. What they call "Simpler" in their commercials, which does make sense. You don't need corporate grade networking options on a home computer.

I would suggest upgrading to 7 if you have the option. If you search around the mircosoft website, you will find an application which will allow you to check which program you currently have installed on your computer will be compatible with 7 beforehand.

Microsoft will stop releasing updates for XP, I forgot the exact dates.

i have a vista laptop thats only 1 1/2 years old, i also have a desktop that is 9 yrs old with xp on it, my personal experience, i like the user interface better on xp, i liked the start menu how it scrolled out each option instead of keeping it in the same area like vista does, i like the system resume that the vista has, it starts up quicker. yes space is an issue but my laptop is 136gb (basic computer) i still have 100gb of unused space, i have downloaders, over 3000 songs, about 20 movies or so, and it still works perfect, its not slow or sluggish.

I will not say anything about windows 7 as i have not used it. and also everyone has their own preferences, you cant bash someone for having their own opinions, you wont know which one you like until you spend time on each one, i dont mean a day im talking a month. it doesnt matter which one you get there will be things you like and dislike about each one.

That is so true.
Just got heated to the discussion here.

Just offering options to those who dont know that choices like these actually exists.

Because majority of the folks in the internet think Windows 7 is another fail product of Microsoft, squeezing more money from foolish customers.

Which is not.

Bottom line, it is an enhanced version of Windows Vista which is faster and better.

Windows XP is almost becoming obsolete although I think it would survive a few more years in the philippines :)) cmon if not 99% maybe 100% of netshops in the philippines use XP :))
as for Vista it would slowly die since its original purpose was for the development of 7...basically you get vista in 7 only its faster, faster, faster, and cooler :)) speedwise I think XP would be faster in some points but cirrently my seven still starts up at 30 seconds compared to 2 minutes when I had XP...

i have used windows 7 but i would still prefer windows xp for my desktop computer coz its processor is Pentium 4 *sucks, low specs, and almost a legendary processor* but still works properly =p windows 7 has great new features, they really improve the user interface.. and also the Inprivate browsing feature... i know u guys want to browse something in the internet that u dont want others to see it saves the time and effort in deleting history and cookies... =p going back.. windows 7 is obviously not a good idea to use in Pentium processor.. it will only slow down and the aero effect wont show.. and some programs might not work because of the compatibility issue .. so for me i'd still prefer windows xp..

vista has alot of wholes in it.. according to my professor the microsoft admitted that vista is not perfect... so they fixed all the problem in vista by creating the windows 7.. so windows 7 is like the combination of xp and vista.. but still... windows 7 is good if ur processor, RAM, video card is high enough to meet its requirement.. though there are still compatibility issues in windows 7.. =p

by now all the common programs have no compatibility issues on 7
if comparing xp and 7 on compatibility, like coldfire said, theres barely any compatibility issues because 7 is based off of xp
Compatibility is only an issue on a few heavily hardware/driver based programs
Basically all compatibility issues related with programing applications have now been fixed
The aero effects are largely based on the Graphics Card and secondly on the Memory, not the processor
A dedicated graphics card is recommended by far for Aero instead of an integrated

the main reason why vista had so many problems at launch was because it was rushed to meet the deadline. Rushed so much so that a whole section of the XP team was moved to the Vista development, and any Computer Science Major knows that introducing new members to a development team midway through is a big no-no in any project.

Windows 7 takes the bag, yeah XP was great in it's time but windows does everything better as it is advertised. I used to use XP ut when Windows 7 came out it was like salvation the interface is amazing and everything about it runs better than Moldy old XP!

I think i'll stay with windows xp till there's somethin' i can't do with this windows that i can with either vista, seven, or any other that comes out... Cuz those negative facts doesn't seem to negative to me lol, if it's cheap then it's accessible to most of the "pc users" and therefore it'll be easier in terms of compatibility... Also windows xp uses less computer requirements, so u're able to run "heavy" apps on your pc without any trouble... Sooooooo till there's a better windows (cuz i don't like any other os) ill stay with Windows Xp :)

Windows XP is for better browsing
Windows Vista is for gaming
I don't know what Windows 7 is for but I think it's a Hybrid of the two
I prefer Windows 7 because it's pretty fast when I used all three
Note: from a computer shop
Although Windows XP isn't a bad choice

Vista had a lot of compatibility issues with many games
I hear a lot of "____ is better for gaming" on this forum but the OS doesn't effect the quality of game play much... unless your running a mac... lawls mac
Its all about the Graphics Card, Memory and Processor

I kinda of consider 7 as an improved version of XP
It runs cleaner and is more visually appealing

I don't undersand a thing about computers and I go with which one looks nicer, which is something obviously stupid, so I relly on my geek friends who, between XP and vista because any of us has access to 7, tell me XP is better, so I use it. Besides that, all the programs I use work on XP while when I was using vista there were some that gave me a little trouble, so that's another thing I prefer from XP

I'm using Windows 7 x64 right now and really like it. With semi modern hardware it runs quick and doesn't have as many compatibility issues as Vista. For any application that hasn't worked XP mode has solved my problems. For those who aren't familiar, XP mode is basically a Windows XP virtual machine that is installed on your Windows 7 OS. You can install applications that have compatibility issues to the virtual machine instead. What is real slick is everything is seamless and launches normally even though it is running in Windows XP behind the scenes.

windows xp is the currently most stable OS as of today. windows 7 had some bug issue to be fix of and also it wasn't stable that much.

i have a windows 7 ultimate, its a bit faster than vista and also less bug.
also i have windows xp sp3 installed in my laptop (i was dual booting win7 and win xp) and its stable..very.

I've used all three but Vista had the most complications... my computer was always having an issue when I was running vista. Right now I have XP on my laptop and 7 on my desktop... I think I like windows 7 better but both are good :)

I'm currently using Windows 7. Compared to Windows XP on which I have used before I upgraded my PC. Win 7 is much faster, more reliable and much cooler.

This usually depends on the computer's hardware. if i use a computer with decent hardware that is enough for 7 to run games like CoD then i choose 7. If not XP ftw. since it is usually compatible with all the available programs (2011)

i prefer Windows 7....
hehehe i don't know why but its awsome and

anyway i think there's no one selling windows XP OS
because of low specs....so they pull it out the market....

Windows 7 is generally better than XP (Vista too obviously) because it's the newest version of Windows. It has nice eye candy, and the compatibilities are reversing too. Games like Just Cause 2 are forcibly incompatible with XP, while XP games can be run at compatibility mode in 7, with some performance issues. Low-end PCs have better luck with XP, but I would've installed Ubuntu instead.

i choose windows 7 of course, tho it does take more memory but makes up in appearance/features, it has backward compatibility so no problems with programs, it just depends on your preference of system..

indeed. alot of the problems people had with vista was fixed with 7. i used vista for a few months crashed so much... and yes it was a retail verson not a bootleged one. so ya after that issue i deleted it and reinstalled XP cause of how much problems it gave me soon as 7 came out i got it have never looked back sense. my comp is going nearly 3 years with out so much as a crash

well vista is a big disappointment for me... i bought a laptop when it got released but i reformatted it to windows xp for my thesis... well there are compatibility issues and it simply just suck... not much longer they introduced windows 7.why do you think so?coz vista is not doing good in the market and so that microsoft can recover from it's loss and failure i think...well i can say that for now windows7 is the best OS not that much superior to windows xp thou but it's performing well...

I prefer Windows 7, its faster and better than Vista... I had vista but when I used its Microsoft Word, it lacks fonts, some parts of the ribbon, etc. Windows XP is fine but I still prefer 7...
