What is the first manga you ever read.

I just got back from the book store and bought my first manga [Shakugan no Shana volume 1] and it brought up an idea for a post soo...

If you own any, what was your first manga and what did you think about it?

And for another conversational question, did you start your life as an otaku on anime or manga?

PS if anyone knows whether or not there's a Darker than Black manga, please tell me..I didn't see it at the book store T.T

well i started watching anime first on toonami than adoult swim i really liked trigun and ive seen

the manga before so i got a copy and that was my first manga, and i liked it so when i went to

ax 09 i got a few more volumes and also got a copy of Detroit metal city(pretty funny)

However it was on OneManga and I dont own any as they re not available in SL. There is one top level store that sells the brand new manga but they are very expensive and not in complete volumes. I dont mind the cost, but it would kill me to not have the complete series 0_0

I started my love with anime - by accident while travelling overseas, and then found manga, by accident... This country I live in maybe a paradise in weather and other areas, but not for Otaku's. Its so rare to find anyone who has even heard of anime

i started out with anime sometime late spring, around the time school got out. The first manga i ever READ was (if it counts) Megatokyo. (if that doesnt count to you, since its american made, then i read Black Lagoon volume 1) however this shakugan manga is the first one ive owned to my name..ureshii ^_^... anyways i pretty much owe my entire life of anime to my friend Josh (otakuq on this site).

I started out with Naruto.

I remember that I wasted my entire summer break reading scans of it on MSN. I left it and never went back to it at the chapter where they defeat that one bad guy that controlled a bunch of puppets.

The first manga in my collection was either chobits or a volume of shonen jump I got from a friend. I believe it was chobits though.
The first manga I read was back when I was about 9,10,11. I'm not sure exactly which one though. Something like Sailor moon, Ceres: celestial legend, Mai: The Psychic girl, X/1999 or a manga I don't remember the name of. I just read a whole bunch of them in the library.

And I started first on anime. Watching them on Toonami, kids wb, adult swim, and a local station that showed Kenshin. I've been told I saw Samurai pizza katz also(don't remember that).

The first manga I bought was Ichigo 100% volume one, and that's the only reason I ever watch that kind of anime when they come out. Mmh, first one I read though was naruto XD, I read like 250 chapters, that was all that had been realeased back then, and never continued.
I don't rly have a manga colection, cause is hard(*cough* I mean imposible) to find them arround here, but from time to time I order a couple of first tomes from argetina, just to compare the art with the anime xD

Hunter X Hunter, while I was in Canada and my friend had days he had to work, I had found this Manga on his shelf near his Orc Warhammer pieces. Couldn't stop reading it tell he was about to get off work, then I'd drop it and go longboarding to meet him ^_^

This is a tough question for me because it's hard to remember back that far :D I was working in a bookstore when I first became interested in manga so I was always picking up titles and scanning through them on my breaks. My store had a wonderful policy which allowed employees to "rent" books and take them home for a certain period of time. As long as we returned them in pristine condition, of course. So I'm sure that I did that with any number of titles just to try them out.

The first title that I actually purchased was Yuu Watase's Ayashi no Ceres. It's one of my absolute favorite mangas of all time (hence my user name), and I carefully special ordered each volume until I had the complete series. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and xxxHolic are tied for second place because I began collecting them both simultaneously a short time after I finished with Ayashi no Ceres.

Reading this thread, I went back in past !!
My first mangas were Ai Yazawa's (I had a cousin who was a big fan of her). I began reading reading other genre thank to an historical manga named "Tsuru princesse des meres" (I think that the original tittle is Umizuru) Then came HxH, DBZ, naruto, Hikaru no go, etc... (Without mentionning the anime I used to watch on TV when young...)
Isn't it funny to thnink that we'd watch anime without realizing they were Japanese ?)

Hmmmmm childhood doesn't count right coz i can't really remember what animes i watched but the one thing i remember is that i used to watch kenshin(the samurai one:)).But let's take it from where i started my addiction of anime/manga.
First i watched anime and it was bleach and some from a channel on TV.I watched like a crazy person bleach... from episode 1-2xx in few days.Then i reached the max of the episode and started to do the side parts of bleach and i started watching one piece,again watching like a crazy person, and finally reached the last episode...but it was too intense to stop so i've heard that anime is behind some thing called manga(i didn't even know what it was:)).So i searched on my best friend google one piece manga ... and there i found the paradise.I've read on OneManga till it went down.From then and now i watched/read bleach/naruto/fairy tail/one piece/history strongest disciple kenichi(didn't liked the anime though...)and i've grown a passion on martial arts so i started searching others anime/manga and i devoured them till now i can't find any anime to reach my expectations and standard because i want an anime/manga martial arts and with a boy as main character...You know it's pretty hard to find one...
Anyway i hope i didn't overextend there.

What I first read wasn't a manga but its technically like a manga and it's called "Komiks" (Comics). It's a Philippine based comics wherein different title/series were put into one publication. Much similar to shounen jump but kind of less in content. Anyways, regarding the topic, what I've first read was (Although my memory is jumbled up a bit since I've read them when I was 6-7 years old so I'm gonna name a lot of komik titles) entitled: Tomas and Kulas (You could call it a Tom and Jerry rip off but the characters talk =P), Combatron, Tinay Pinay (Typical Superhero, a young woman who tend to house chores), Eklok. I forgot most of the title I've read since they were ages ago.

TL;DR I've first read a Philippine published comics called komiks. They were: Tomas and Kulas, Comabtron, Tinay Pinay, Eklok. I forgot what I've read first since I was 6-7 years old when I started reading them.

My first official manga to read was Naruto. I've downloaded a lot of naruto anime episodes on torrent but I got bored with how slow the story is progressing especially with the fillers. I sat back and read the manga and ever since, I only venture one path, that is either Anime or Manga. Arakawa Under the bridge is the only exception wherein I read the manga and watched the anime.

Though I lost interest in it and only watched the anime shortly after, only to stop watching the anime, because I lost interest in all the fillers, and start reading the manga again. A pretty stupid chain of events right there now that I think about it, but I plan to start watching again when the war starts or, rather, when Naruto gets to the battlefield.
