I cant even get Otaku-Streamers to show on my iPhone :P... I just get some roxio mobile thing. Anyway the only site that i know support iphone is veoh, even though thier normal streaming quality is fairly bad on the iphone it is decent since the screen is so small

It is likely that this issue will be solved soon. OS supports Iphone just fine now and soon we'll be getting flash for Iphone, it should happen around the time of the "S" series release. Then streaming videos from OS on your phone won't be a problem.

You'll just have to be patient untill that happens, because as it is right now the iphone can only play a certain format. So it would require reencoding the videos and reuploading the in order to make them iphone ready

Meh iphone really isnt that widely used in the philippines so we really dont have any idea on HOW to make it works since we have no basis to begin with. Well if JB has an Iphone or Chiva maybe they can tinker with OS a bit to make it work for the iphone. :emh21: :emhh14:

As long iPhone can play flash videos, then theoretically OS should be fine.

i think i phone can run it however it doesnt have the capability of storing high bitrates of streaming video...
it can only support flv for the meanwhile... but if you go with psp it might work if you have custom firmware on it though...

i dont know about custom firmwares for ipod touch or java script support or the mp4 output streaming though... let's just wait for the headquarters of technology (greenhills philippines) is able to discover in time...

@ coldfire: yea on my psp I found an add-on for it and I can watch it on my psp but it takes way to long to just get to the vid and then some for you to watch it... also the Q isn't really that great ether, also it if it lag's even once the psp will shut down.. I dont have that add-on any more sence I'm getting an iphone S soon...

not the headquarters where we get latest gadgets (well some occassions though)

lol.. not even.. maybe in philippines, its arguable.. but its not always the case

the reason why they delete animes in those sites is because of licensing.. thats the disadvantage of being mainstream.. well you get to earn tons of money as PRO..

anyone have news about iphone s?

anyone have news about iphone s?

it might take a lot of work since the iphone follow a certain bit rate calculation that only the iphone can handle

psp has no problem however with the memory shortage(built in) it lacks the ability to save full videos or stream them...

i know it is not advisable to reduce the bit rate but you can try following the bit rate calculation of youtube mp4's so that you can finally stream it... to guys who have iphone( unfortunately i dont have any) you guys can try uploading your custom video on a ftp site or something then after that stream it on your i phone...

the converter that otaku streamers might needed to be changed so that iphone can support it... but it would be a lot of work if that is the case then...

my advice is put choices where you can select on iphone quality , normal quality, HD quality. like the others does (porn sites do these already)

russj

happy to know you have extensive knowledge on wireless streaming and porn sites XD

from what i gather we intend to do that but we will prioritize normal quality that we have now and later HD streaming (?)*not sure*

here's where the real problem lies:
multiple quality=more hosts=more money

hmmmmm.. CON of being underground

I recently bought myself a perfectly good 2nd hand Nokia N80 cellphone. Since it had WiFi capability i tried surfing OS and stream since it ALSO supported streaming but it seems the needed Cache for OS Streaming to run exceeds my mobiles cache limit so my suggestion is this. Will you guys make a less heavy mobile site for OS? Like maybe m.otaku-streamers.com then like make the interface less that it would look like the mobile version of youtube where you can only see thumbnails of the videos you want then it gives you a link so that your built in video player plays the videos on it. :emh21:

Update:Bought a Nokia 5800 looks good but tried and still didnt work

Update2: Good news for Android, Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile users.

Skyfire can stream on OS succesfully and am currently using it to stream on OS hahaha its awesome.

You need any Android, Symbian S60 v3/5 or Windows Mobile phone with wifi capability for maximum enjoyment :3

Go to http://skyfire.com

Download it for your mobile depending on what platform.

P.S. Sorry Apple Iphone users Steve Jobs has once again failed you hahaha. No flash on iphone? Big problem hahaha

Flash doesn't work on iTouch or iPhone at the moment. It requires lots out of RAM and processing power that's a bit much for Adobe to figure out atm but they are working on it. Otherwise quicktime format and youtube are our only video streamers :|

pikel
10-11-2009, 09:58 PM
yeah, my iPhone 3G doesn't work with this site either, though it does work with youtube and veoh.com, veoh's the only viable option I've found thus far for mobile anime (unless I drag my laptop around with me:emhh15:)

its true that streaming for iPhone doesn't work right now.
However I don't think it is worth the time to reformat every video in order to make it possible for us the view anime via our phones.
Just be patient and wait for flash to be released for iPhone and thus probably many other phones soon after.

pikel
10-13-2009, 11:49 AM
what video format does os presently use?
It seems that to make it work for iPhone, they'd have to have a link that opens the video in iPhone's player. At present, the only sites that stream for iPhone have special links, mobile sites, or iPhone specific sites. Sure, I'd absolutely love for OS to consider the idea of working that one out... mobile.otaku-streamers.com site, but at the same time I can see the difficulty in it.

If we weigh the pros and cons of it, is watching anime on our cell phones worth all the effort? :emhh21: :emhh57:

Cho Hakkai
10-17-2009, 06:49 PM

We would love to be able to develop the programme needed to strean OS on phones. However, we are a bunch of very poor folk and neither of our Admins have or can afford an ipod to test it out on. As it is, we are barely paying our rent for OS every month.

So until Jim either can afford to buy one or gets a donation of a free phone - this will just be a dream we will look forward to having in the future

Bindu1000
10-17-2009, 10:46 PM
OS currently uses Mp4 vids for streaming and yes, if we are to make the vids streamable on phones, it would mean re-formatting everything on a different format which is technically not impossible. However ...
- It would mean more server space which frankly we cant afford (we can barely afford our current space)
- I am sure Jim could write a programme to make it possible within a week or less if he put his head to it. However to do so, he would have to either have a iphone (or similar one on which vids could be watched) to test it out and frankly neither of our two Admins can afford one.

So this will also have to be a long term goal/dream we hope we can afford in the future

russj
10-19-2009, 09:52 PM
i can afford one,.. but really, we cant afford the bandwidth. besides that fact, jim can make this site mobile on a whim... we just cant afford the space hmm

Well in the light of my suggestion JB tells me that he can do a mobile support rather easily but theres one problem.

He doesnt have a mobile phone to test it on :emhh12:

So that goes w/o saying that here are my suggestions to solve the problem

A. We get a seperate donation (Since its Christmas) for buying JB a suitable mobile phone.
:emhh24:

or

B. A member of OS send their old mobile phone (That supports flash lite) to JB (Since its christmas and im sure you people will buy new ones).

:emhh13:

So thats all for now hehehe

Well anyone think my solutions are plausible? :51:

toms32
12-28-2009, 11:33 AM
Well theoritically speaking it should work on Symbian phones. Those being some Nokia N series, ngage, 5800(xpress music) and a samsung touchscreen phone if I am not mistaken(could also be a LG) since they mainly run flash. :/ I should test it out on my phone.

I recently got my iTouch, and i have just fell in love with it. thanks to the good people on OS, i was also able to easily jailbreak it and get other awesome apps, and i also now can get app-store apps for free. the Osu! and iManga Reader apps are AMAZING.

So i got to thinking, what if there was an app to view otaku-streamers videos? Right now, until Apple releases the patch that allows Adobe Flash to be installed and incorporated into the iTouch/iPhone itself, Otaku-Streamers is rendered unusable, which is a shame. I'm not sure how hard it is to make apps, nor how hard it would be to downscale the videos to make them playable on the iTouch or the iPhone, but its just a suggestion. Heck, you could probably charge $3.99 for the app. i know I, and multiple others here would definately buy it!

Thanks

I've been thinking about this myself as well for a long time now. During lunch and breaks at work I tend to hop on my iphone and read manga, or books, or play games... but if OS had an app... I'd never be bored at work again! YouTube has no anime, and veoh's anime selection is slim. I have yet to find any other apps to watch anime with and could seriously imagine that the site could manage to obtain quite a large amount of money if it is the first "Anime streaming" App in the App store.

The only problem that I could foresee would be Apple getting pissy over anime Licensing.

02-10-2010, 07:24 AM
I believe there is already a thread on this. But anyways, I'm not sure if our current video type would load well onto a iPod touch or iPhone. I've been hoping for an app for a long time as I have an iPhone, but as is it seems really impractical.

jadeliciousdk
02-10-2010, 07:39 AM
The problem is that Iphone lacks the unrivaled power of flash! Actually adobe has already developed flash for Iphone (or so the rumors goes), but Apple declines to make it available for Iphone because they would loose a lot of business in the Appstore, people would just play bloons online.

A little hint to a certain Ipad video ^^

pikel
02-10-2010, 07:55 AM
Lol, yes, but some sites like porn sites, veoh, and even youtube allow you to watch streaming videos on your iPod touch or iPhone, it's just a matter of adjusting it to quicktime player and writing in a program that allows the iPhone to play it full screen as you can't watch anything otherwise. Essentially, it would require a LOT of work that would feel rather superfluous.

Jefurii

Crunchyroll done something similiar by making an iphone/itouch app to watch and stream videos. Personally, I don't like the iphone since EVERYONE and their grandmother has one. Plus it can't use flash. But if you have a Google Android from HTC or something, they should run flash fine to watch the videos here on OS.

Bump for an OS mobile version website.

My PS3 plays Anime on OS more than it plays games. I'm typing this right now with Canvas2 playing on my TV. So it definitely works on PS3. (I also found out that it's easier to zoom in on the smaller player rather than going full screen so that after each episode I just press "Start > L1(to go back to ep#) > Square > next episode number > Start x2" and I'm watching the next episode... :emhh21:...It's really a lot more convenient and easy than it sounds.

Sounds like your friend is doing something nasty off the source codes of psptube.
Or probably doing far off the infastructure of the existing built in flash.

Still limitations of the hardware is there.
You won't see me spending too much time on a program that one day it may go obselete.

I am currently researching on how to run videos using my nintendo wii.
I am not developing any source codes. just waiting a schmoe developing something that can play megavideo or similar sites.

If that works, will bounce back to OS and try my own personal modifications.

I wish this worked. unfortunately, i think no portable device supports Adobe Flash, and if ANY do at all, its the Nintendo DS (i am only guessing it does because the Wii does)

But, Apple has announced its going to be getting flash for the iPod Touch and iPhones here soon.... they needa hurrys it up though.

Unfortunately iPhone still use Safari for their mobile browser which at the moment still has'nt enable flash, on the other hand there is Opera which is also good but still does not Renders Flash 10.

But there is still hope...........:51:

Updated frontpage. You can now stream on your mobile but it depends on what mobile you have.

Nobody interested anymore? :(

How about other mobile devices such as psp?

I know I recently tried to go onto otaku-streamers.com but the animated header kept crashing the psp browser. I haven't tried on my ps3 since the new design.

I got n97 nokia. I can stream, i don't see the problem but i think it should ideally be able to play the video..i mean some people want to stream but can't. Your phone needs to have the capability.

I can easily view website using my Ps3 or PSP.

With Ps3:
1. Navigate to the website, if it asks you to run any kind of plug-ins say no (it will still play videos of anime)

With PSP (requires Ps3):
1. Connect the PSP to your Ps3 and enable remote play.
2. Disconnect the USB cable and then select remote play on the psp.
3. Now you are using your Ps3 browser through the PSP.
4. All videos work great.
5. This works over the internet too if you forward the correct ports.

I am currentely waiting for Android 2.2 to test flash 10.1 and hopefully it works!! We'll see...

I have a E71... I can browse thru the site... but... >.<

It has to reload the page in order to work... First, you see Miku's microphone... then you see the page you want to see... then it dissapears... then you see Miku again only now in full... then you can start browsing...

and that irks me...

but at least... I can browse thru forum...

They really have to make a simple way to let OS be mobile... like a basic phone player or something... maybe even an app to let you easily browse thru videos and the forum and even the cb... something like that... if not that, then a mobile version for OS in the web...

Well you technically buy the newest phones right now because they already have full flash as in the adobe flash that your PC browser uses so even flash games can be viewed and played on the newest phones out now. For those who have older versions they could get Skyfire for their phones and browse OS with it.

Actually a more efficient method would be to make an app. I'm moving up to android 2.1 later this month so i could code a app up, and perhaps blackberry (although i loved my blackberry, i'm not to fond of coding for it... ). Although Jb could probably create a better app as he knows this site inside and out (code).

@ Kenchin, actually I have the Motorola Cliq XT, atm, but Adobe is already working on an upgrade/app for all droid phones so that other flash formats can be seen (other than YT, Veoh, and some other rare sites), I have downloaded the beta, and it's some what working with OS but I still think that we should wait a lil while longer, its going to be finished SOON :), (is what I hear).
so far it has slight glitching in video streaming, the screen is NOT fixed to fit any droid atm, and it has a few other things I haven't seen/had go wrong with me on beta's...

but it works, so some time next year, or maybe if they get to working @.@, near the end of this year (december?...nah, maybe march at the earliest ), it will come out as an update for most droid phones
Hope this helps guys :) go to adobe.com and just look up the download link for the beta, not fully there yet, but it is as good as anything right now. Good luck guy's :)
(wow, I has not been here in a while...*wave's hyperly*)

my omnia2's streaming player should be able to play it, i'll try inputing the mp4 url and see if it works :o

eh it says it's "Downloading", i guess streaming through streaming player is a no-go. i'll try the core player later and tell you if it works. if it did, all OS have to do is just provide the .mp4 links to the mobile browser i guess :3

Or even for the ipad and iphone compatibility. it differs from a normal mobile compat., it needs HTML5 i think for it to work. because for those who are visiting OS from their Ipads and Iphones, there are features here that needed flash and apple users cant use it. it limits the user's way of using the site,

inubazh11
11-16-2010, 06:24 PM
But it differs from a normal mobile phone. It needs to be in a format that will be read by iphone and Ipad which is rare. Iphone and Ipad doesnt read flash videos which is used by OS.:) I think it would be possible but not this soon.

It needs flash though. whichi iphones and ipads and itouch doesnt have, (nor will have)

How about the Andriod phones like LG and Samsung. it must be easier to create an app for otaku-streaming for those phones

An app or at least a mobile friendly site has always been in the admins minds. It just takes a ton of extra work... it's not easy.

Remember, our traffic is anime not the site alone so yes, mobile friendly = less heavy website to load... but then we'd be encouraging more mobile users to start streaming too on top of the computer users and that alone will bring up server bandwidth costs.

TBH an "android" app doesn't need to happen.. just a mobile friendly site like deviantart.com made m.deviantart.com (mobile site); this would be sufficient and read across all mobile platforms. However, to create this extra space for the code, images, etc. that the mobile site needs... we need to know if it benefits the server load ie. not enough mobile visitors or too much anime streaming. It probably would be beneficial.. but that's a ton of coding and work either way.

As for the format of the current videos, I think they are in mp4 (or .fla/flash video converted from mp4) but there are many types of mp4 out there and I forget what type can be read (and scaled) by iphone/itouch(in conversion programs there's the feature but no tech details behind it to tell whether an apple-mobile device can scale it from our current resolution[screen size] down to the mobile resolution). If the mp4 has been converted to an .flv/flash video then no dice... that's means a whole other server just for apple-mobile stuff. I personally don't know how the anime is read.. just those are the possibilities and if we submit videos to the admins, it's mp4 - how they upload to the website server, however, is a different story.

*Flash will never come to any model of iphone or ipod touch up to this point just due to the hardware alone isn't enough to handle flash properly. If they ever did the battery life would be considered little to none as it uses a decent amount of processing power(CPU) if there is no GPU(GPU=Graphics processor unit: which no mobile product actually has I think). I think android phones have that issue when they display flash... it just takes too much battery life.

All of this is being thought of since a discussion back in 09 and if their is a slight opportunity to start working on anything related to this, admins will or already has been working on it. To be honest though just cope with it or buy a netbook :P they cost just as much.
