Author's notes:- my style is weird, and I believe it is quite sad XD. This is one of two stories: "From the dark" and "In the Light" both are 10 chapters long. I suggest that you either read "Dark" first, then "Light" or you read a single chapter from both of them at the same time. So like, a chapter from "Dark" first then a chapter from "Light" then back to a chapter of "Dark" etc. XD in fact, I highly suggest that you read it that way.
NEVER READ "Light" first, LOL. For a certain effect I have decided that the main character shall not be named for the "In the dark" series and I shall postpone naming him as far as possible for "In the Light". Throughout this story he shall be referred to as _ _ _ _ Junjo.(yea I know... lame last name for a main character right?) I think it would actually be easier if you actually read _ _ _ _ as "blank".
Only less than a handful of people here *cough* *cough* you know who you are, will recognize certain aspects of this story. Some of this shall be based off of first hand accounts... But of course a bunch of it will be made up... >,< Also I am going to illustrate certain things of the story. Each 'chapter' or post is going to jump around in the character's life so be sure to pay attention to what time of year/ age the character is. Aaaand that's my rant LOL

FAMILIES

He sits there motionless..staring out of the window. His brown eyes, though he faces the window, do not seek anything... they seem to look beyond everything. A parking lot... a couple buildings... methodically placed trees... people rushing back to their homes... all of these can be seen through the window, yet, are not seen at all by the one who sits right there.

A sun which is starting to set can be seen. A family of six drives up to this building in a small grey van, and they find themselves a parking spot. An ambulance speeds bye with its sirens ablaze... cars scramble to get out of the way... people on the sidewalk stop to watch the noisy vehicle speed along. A bird lands in a tree to feed its newly hatched baby. None of these pay heed to the window on the sixth floor of the building right by them. They are, after all, of separate worlds.

*Tap, tap, tap* ... someone steps into the small, enclosed room. Looking at her clip board, the nurse reads the patients diagnosis. After looking though a couple more sheets. The silence is broken once again.
"How are you doing today... Mister... "Junjo" ?" she asks questioningly... unsure of the pronunciation. She appears from behind her clipboard and tilts her head to the side... wearing a smile. He continues to stare out the window... and for a moment time becomes stagnant as the nurse waits. He turns to her and with a gentle smile finally replies in a soft voice

...yes yes... your pronunciation is fine enough... I'm... he diverts his gaze downwards. Towards his sheets of the bed he sits in... quite fine... same as always. Quite fine....

I'm "quite fine" all the time aren't I? Oh well... nothing ever bothers me.... except... well...

His thoughts always led back to the same thing. When there was nothing to think of. His mind would always go back to the thing hidden at the back of his heart. That. That thing right by his heart. That is the only thing in the world that ever bothered him. It still bothers him. It had woven itself though his whole being. Like a ghost it hangs silently over at all times. Like a disease it constantly afflicts him. Invisible to all but for himself.

It was but a memory.... blurred by the passage of time... the beginning...
It was a fall ages ago. Leaves were already in their beautiful shades of red and orange... falling from the trees in fits of colors. The smell of dirt and maple familiarly mixed together and hung everywhere. Two old, dirt-brown, brick apartments stood parallel to each other in this place. They are a simple single story tall, but they are long. So long in fact... that from his memory they just go straight out into oblivion. They can be better described as homes that are built attached to each other. In-between the two apartments was a courtyard like place. Its sides were crowned with rows of trees. Already littered with the fiery colors of Autumn, it is here, in this area, where two families met.

A man cradling a three-year-old baby looks down at the seven-year-old boy and six-year-old girl standing right beside him. On the other side of the courtyard stood another family, the father too was holding a new born child. Beside him stood an un-interested eleven-year-old-boy, a seven-year-old girl who followed this boy, and a six-year-old girl who shyly hid behind the leg of her own father.

While his little sister was hugging him, the seven-year-old boy looked up at his father. The father too looks down at his little son.
" _ _ _ _ , this is the Shirren family" we're here because they invited us" the father smiles reassuringly to his son and daughter. The parents from both families walk towards each other. Apparently they had met prior to this arrangement, but the children weren't there. The children too, are brought unwillingly to the center. It's more like they follow the parents out of fear of separation. The parents chatter for a bit while the children just stand there. They eye each other unsure of what to do, but soon the parents notice that the children are doing nothing.

"_ _ _ _, Ayane.... you two can play with them you know..." says their father. At the same time, the father of the Shirren family said similar words to his own children.
"the oldest one of them, his name is Shinji, while the second oldest is...." but the father had already lost his son and daughter at the word "play". At such an age, names were of no importance. Playmates were playmates, no matter the height, gender, or race.
The initially uninterested Shinji was now running around, and the shy looking girl proved to not be all that shy. Quickly a game of tag was established... Glimpses of the two boys could be caught as they darted amongst the trees and the leaves... The seven-year-old boy didn't stand a chance against the eleven-year-old. Later, the girls had procured buckets and were putting dirt and water into them in order to make "pies". Seeing how heavy some of these loads were, the seven-year-old boy had decided to help the six-year-old girl carry the heavy bucket across the courtyard.

All of this happened while the parents stood in the center... chatting the rest of the afternoon away...
It was a memory preserved in his head, almost as vividly as the colors of the leaves on that fateful fall afternoon. A friendship between these two was established on that day. Many birthdays, Christmas parties, new-years parties to come, would be the crossroads of the relationship between this pair of families.

NEW

'Moving day' was what his parents had called it. This family had already moved many times. The boy was used to different schools, new friends, and a confusing amount of places. Even an adult would become dizzy trying to remember all the rooms and buildings the boy had seen. They were moving from their old apartment on the 3rd floor of a complex to a small white house all the way across the state. The three year old baby was now four, so the parents had decided to find someplace more suitable for their family of five. Their destination was an apartment a couple counties over. On that day, the eight-year-old boy felt like he was leaving something behind, yet was not sure what it was.

============================================

He bends over and places the box of assorted items in his room.

He looks, smiling at his new room. It was after all, a room meant specifically for him. This house was built from scratch for this family, and they had visited it monthly to watch the progression of the construction. It was located in a place far away from any other area they had visited beforehand. The 11 year old boy stood and walked to the single window and looked out, the trees outside would become a very familiar view. In the years to come, a small clearing will be made by his mother, and a small and wonderful garden will be planted there.

A small cry from the newborn baby starts up within the newly finished house.... In that small time... the family of five had become a family of six. "_ _ _ _ can you come down and get more boxes please?" a woman's voice echoes from downstairs. "Yes moooom" echoes the boy back. On this day, that family would move into the house where they would stay the longest time. It was a long day of moving boxes, and none of them minded the task. Tomorrow the boy, with his little sisters, Ayane and Mei, would start school. The newest addition to the family, Lina, was way too young for school. They all had to say goodbye to their friends yesterday... for the family had moved in the middle of a school year. He would have to make new fifth grade friends. Tomorrow they would interrupt the normal flow of classrooms and introduce themselves.

Everything was supposed to be new.
