How do They make babies in movies cry?

As I was munching on my Tyson Brand's Juicy and Delicious Buffalo Wings, I looked up from enjoying my Tyson Brand's Juicy and Delicious Buffalo Wings and saw a baby in a lame Chinese Drama that my mom was watching. I licked my fingers to get every last savory bit of the Buffalo Sauce that the Tyson Brand's Juicy and Delicious Buffalo Wings had left as I held it. Suddenly the fat baby started crying in the sad scene.

The fat baby wriggled around flailing it's chubby fists and looked like it had just got scammed of his entire deck of Rare Pokemon Cards (or something of equal importance such as going bankrupt, getting divorced, and finding out that you had cancer at the same time).

After being impressed at the baby's superior acting abilities, I wondered:
" How do makers of TV shows and/or Movies make the babies cry when they need it?"

Do they show the baby a picture of my face to make it cry in pain? Do they wait until the baby cries and then film that for melding into scenes through video manipulation (cutting and editting)? Do they anticipate when the baby is about to poop into it's diaper and cry before starting the scene? Do they film the scene and punch the baby in the face while he's not on camera to make the baby cry when they need to?

How to they do it?

Also, think of some good and creative ways to make a baby cry without quite punching it in the face...

shirley temple, a famous child actress back in the days, was told that her per dog died before shooting a scene. she wasnt a baby though hehehe

for babies i think they just scare them. theyre easy to upset especially when theyre hungry (arent we all XD)

Well, that would be effective, though I can see some downsides. You might be so sad that you will cry beyond just the place you're supposed to cry. Also, I doubt it can really work that that well each time. Do they say "YOUR DOG IS DEAD!" each time she needs to cry? That would either wear out the effectiveness or mentally scar her having to think about her dog's death all the time.

And poor babies! They starve them and yell at them to make them cry? That is terrible! Whoever those babies mothers are should be ashamed! And yelling at babies is just such a mean thing to do! ... I wish I had a job where I screamed that babies to make them cry and got paid. Ah, that would be excellent. Reclines in fantasy*

Know any creative ways to make babies cry besides just yelling at them?

lol well this is just a basic answer... have them with their mother all the time... and when the filming starts just take the mother away...its not very harmful and its quite simple xD

similarly you could do it with food I geuss... give something they like. Take it away. That way your not really starving the poor thing o.o

Haha, so what you're saying is to ask the mom to leave?

Imagine if the mom forgot something and came back only to find all the people in the set trying to make the baby cry? That would be a pretty awkward scenario.
"U lyke moneh? I giv u moneh. u didn see nething"

Hmm, so your idea is to taunt the baby? That also sounds like a great job! Imagine that, a professional baby taunter!

To be honest though, I still liked the "scream at the baby until it cries" method

im sure whoevers holding the baby could just like pinch it or something babies very easily get upset also that way they wouldnt have to cut the scene and do film editing later

Pinching babies to make them cry is a terrible thing to do.

You could leave marks or bruises since they are very delicate. And what kind of cruel person would want to pinch a baby and make it cry? They are so adorable and small.
