I always thought it would be more efficient just to have it simply change via an <iframe>, or even have it be entirely flash-based itself.

Just saves the time from having to send in the query, have the site query the SQL databases, then redraw all the stuff again on the user's computer. Instead, just have him reload a small part of the page.

I prefer pages that don't require lots of reloading.
