i think avich meant to say data cable..
if i have that problem i do two things:
1. change the data cable(not necessarily change, just for testing)
2. test my hd on another pc
EDIT: check the power cable too..

i think is it possible that ide is conflicting with the SATA HDD, because i only use p4
it happened again,, i have two HDD the IDE HDD is where the XP is installed and the SATA HDD is for files that i DL in the net,, when i have movies or play games that are using the drive SATA HDD it suddenly disappear,, what do you think is the problem?

you have a point that they are conflicting but .... i never heard of the IDEs and SATA conflicting
but are you sure you inserted them in the right slots? maybe the cables are damaged...
russ is right try another cables to test if it will run... if it will then the problem is on your cable

hmmm maybe you cables are burnt either you put in a wrong cables in a wrong slot possible or maybe the its HDD have the problem either you go back where you bought it then ask them if they can test it

Maybe the problem is the cables... (or the slot itself).... coz you'ev been switching them right??? so it must be the cable or the slot

lets see you using 2 hard disk and 1 dvd rom rite??
the problems could be in your ide cable hdd.if you already change the cables but still give the same trouble you should check your power supply..
I have the same problem before but after i check my power supply and
replace it with a new one the problem is gone..
hope this could help you..

Could it also be an internal problem, like the programming? Usually that's the actual culprit.

Question 1:
So your saying that WHILE you are using a file located on Drive D (Internal SATA HDD) that drive is no longer listed on your system?
Does the file still play while Drive D is no longer listed?
OR do you mean that WHEN you try to play the file, the system tries to look for the file and it realizes that Drive D is missing?
So you are not able to even start playing the file.
Question 2:
Does this happen EVERY time or only sometimes?
Does this happen with EVERY file or only some files?
Heres some common problems:
1. Make sure your two HDD's are not close together. HDDs need space to expel heat. Overheating may cause it to fail. This may be the reason why it fails WHILE using the drive. Especially during intensive data transfer, like a movie. Its a more common problem during the summer. The CPU usually crashes from heat before the HDD does. But in your case, the HDD may not be getting enough room to cool or it might be bad placement. Try keeping the cover of your computer open and putting a fan directly at your HDD. Its over kill cooling and ghetto, but if it works, it works.
The following problems usually when not using the drive / does not matter if you are using the drive or not.
2. HDD disappears AFTER sleep mode. Your HDDs will most likely go be turned off during sleep. Secondary drives will usually go into sleep automatically after not accessing it for awhile to save energy. On resume, the system may not recognize the drive. This was a common problem with windows 7, not so sure about XP, haven't used it in awhile.
To test if this is the case, try putting your system into hibernate. Wait for the HDDs to die down then resume the system and check if the SATA HDD is still recognized.
Change the power settings on that hard drive to never go to sleep.
3. Your HDD addressing may be dynamic and might change for whatever reason, thus causing it to disappear. You may need to change it to Basic. You may have set it to dynamic when initially installing the HDD. If this is the case you will need to back up your HDD before reformatting it.
4. Your firmware may not be compatible with the SATA revision version you have. This is especially true if you have an old computer but a new SATA HDD. The revisions are supports to be backwards compatible, but I've heard of some problems with the firmare. Check what revision your SATA HDD is and compare it with the date your system was released.
If your firmware cannot be updated, you may need to buy a new SATA card.
If you can successfully recreate the problem consistently then that would really help with the debugging.
If it only happens randomly, its a bit more difficult.
You said you tried changing the ports but have you tried changing computers?
If you do this you can determine if the problem is within your system or within the HDD.

If you have burned a lot of discs in that drive it could become unusable the same thing happened to me if you have not burned alot of dice try installing Spyware Doctor via torrent real men file share anyway do a scan and if it is still not fixed then install cleanup free via Internet that program will thoroughly clear your cookies if nome of those methods work replace it with a 30$ external disc drive.
