I have a question for my fellow GIF makers how could you remove the dot thing on the pics. when you're going to save it as a gif. You see images looks bad when it's turned to a gif(there's this dotted thing that covers the image and make it look blurry) ,but as for the videos it's ok...
(samples: look at my siggy... it has that dotted white thing on it)

You can only store so many colors (256) on a gif image. If you see those dots that would probably mean that you exceeded the maximum amount of colors. What the image is doing is replacing colors that are not in the color palette with an exisiting color similar to it in the color palette.
You can optimize the gif to your liking before you finally save it to improve results. Anyways, just be wary of how many colors you use and the dots wont appear. I suggest asking Ragnarok for things like this ;D

like kimono said above, too many colors can reduce the quality in a gif image and make it look like that
there is also a program that makes animated PNG images which doesn't reduce the quality but as of now it works only in firefox and the program of making those is not very easy to use either... ( ._.)

Then I'll stick with non-gif avatar for now...
@ragnarok: can you tell me the name of the program you were talking about?

this is the website of that program
http://sites.google.com/site/cphktool/apng-anime-maker
scroll at the bottom and click at the images to see for yourself, those are animated PNG images from K-ON
if you're browsing with firefox you'll see them move but they remain still with any other browser
