The November issue of Kadokawa Shoten's monthly Newtype magazine has announced that an original television anime series entitled Senhime Zesshō Symphogear will premiere next January. The anime follows two girls in a top vocal unit named Zweiwing who fight to save humanity against a threat known as "Noise."
Composer Noriyasu Agematsu of the music group Elements Garden and game producer Akifumi Kaneko are credited for coming up with the idea for this project. Tatsufumi Itō will direct the series for Encourage Films.

"Saki" Second Season Announced

Additionally, the November issue of Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine announced on Wednesday that an anime adaptation of Ritz Kobayashi and Aguri Igarashi's Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A has been green-lit. The adaptation will reunite the staff from the first Saki anime series.
Eight volumes of Ritz Kobayashi's popular ongoing mahjong manga have been published so far in Young Gangan. When the decision was made to adapt it into an anime Gonzo produced the first 14 episodes in 2009 prior to its restructering. The remaining 11 episodes were produced by Picture Magic.

"Toaru Majutsu no Index" Gets a Film

The official twitter account (@projectindex (http://twitter.com/#!/projectindex/status/120368734383783936)) of the Toaru Majutsu no Index anime project announced on 2 October 2011 at the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival that a feature film for the franchise has been green-lit.
Kazuma Kamachi's 22 volume Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series inspired two 24 episode television anime series, an ongoing manga series, and a video game. In March 2011 the first light novel in a sequel series, New Testament: Toaru Majutsu no Index, was published by ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint. It has also spawned a spin-off series, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun.
More details will be provided in ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko magazine on 11 October 2011.

"Ranma 1/2" December Drama Special

The classic manga Ranma 1/2 is being turned into a live-action drama special this December, starring actress Aragaki Yui (23). Saotome Ranma will be played by actor Kaku Kento (22) and Natsuna (22). NTV will broadcast the 2-hour drama sometime in December.
Originally written by Takahashi Rumiko and published by Shogakukan between 1987 and 1996, the manga has had more than 53 million copies printed. The comic has also been adapted as an anime series and has spawned several video games.
Accordingly the drama will feature an original story with Tendo Akane as the main character:
In the drama special, Aragaki plays Akane, who is determined to protect the longevity of the Tendo dojo. However, one day her father Soun suddenly declares that the dojo’s successor must be male. This rules out Akane’s intended partner Ranma, who suffers from a curse that turns him into a girl whenever he is splashed with cold water. In order to remove the curse and inherit the dojo, Ranma seeks out a secret hot spring, but he encounters a mysterious enemy.

"Himitsu no Akko-chan" to Receive Film Treatment

Fujio Akatsuka's classic shoujo comedy manga Himitsu no Akko-chan will be adapted into a feature film for release next September. Yasuhiro Kawamura has been hired to direct the project.
In the manga, Atsuko "Akko-chan" Kagami is an enthusiastic fifth-grader who receives a magical compact from a certain mirror spirit. With the compact, Akko-chan can cast spells and transform herself into anything or anyone she wishes, and she uses the power to help others.
The upcoming film will feature an original romantic fantasy story within the basic framework of the manga:
When Akko-chan uses the magical compact given to her from by the Queen of the Mirror Kingdom to transform into a 22-year-old version of herself she has a fateful encounter with an "elite salaryman." Over the course of the film, Ayase will transform into a figure skater, an airline cabin attendant, an office lady, a female police officer, a motorcycle racer, and more.
26-year-old actress Haruka Ayase (above) will star as the title character with Masaki Okada as her love interest.
