Okay, we have tried asking nicely, we have tried warning but nothing seems to deter members from leeching videos from OS. We have come to the point that we are just about ready to throw in the towel and close this site down because that is what we will need to do pretty soon if we cant stop the leeching from eating into our bandwidth. This is not only preventing other members from streaming properly but it is costing us extra money (that we really dont have) as we have to pay for the extra bandwidth after our monthly allocation is used up. So without further ado, we will be implementing our


"NO WARNING JUST BANNING" rule with immediate effect

Your account wont be deactivated so you can come back after a certain time frame (we wont tell you how long), but if you continue to try to download and keep getting banned, your account will be deleted as well.

Seriously guys - there are as many downloading sources on the internet as there are porn sites so I dont see any reason why you need to mess up our precious OS!!! All you need to do is type in the anime you want into your search engine and it will take you to 1000's of downloading sites. An Add-on such as WOT will help to ensure you pick a safe site and then good to go

Trust me ... from now on - you wont see it coming till your cut off ....

I doubt that would be the case, otherwise I would've been banned recently after creation, multiple times, possibly permanently. I watch anime while I do pretty much anything that requires a PC, and my internet is wireless so it takes forever to stream. I wait for it to finish at least half the show before I start watching it.

They're probably referring to the idiots that don't realize if you want to download anime to your hard drive to save/burn there's one single site that has everything you could ever want via torrents with loads of seeds, all in DVD, HD and BluRay(of course there's also some of the old vhs rips, such as Legend of the Galactic Heroes). Also, there's usually at least 2 or 3 alternative downloads if your PC is like mine and can't handle BluRay. I'd mention the name of the site but I think it's taboo.. it's not hard to find though, just Google "High quality anime torrent"

Really hope those few people will smarten up and leave OS alone, once it's gone it's gone, it's the only site of its kind, sure there's other streamers but I haven't found a single one half as good as OS. They all use Veho, Mega-crap and Face-smack, whereas OS uses it's own private player, that alone is worth keeping this site up, there's several other reasons as well but I've rambled too much already. ;)

hmm, seriously i don't really get why would you leech from here when there are so many websites where you can download anime with alot higher video quality, not that the video quality is bad here, but it can't match what u can find on the torrents. besides on torrents u will most likely get a higher download rate and u can download the whole series at once.
Don't think ip ban is any use as there are alot of proxies you can use to bypass it, or some like myself who have dynamic ip, which will be hardly affected by this measure, and most likely if they know how to leech from here they most likely know how to use a proxy aswell :P.

As for the google search, the one I said(High quality anime torrent) is hard to mistake any other site unless you're a few fries short of a happy meal, and I've been using that site quite a bit without problems. As someone said before, just get a p2p protection program if you're afraid of downloading from sites. There's TONS of good free anti-virus/malware/etc programs.

I somewhat agree to the idea of temporarily disallowing registration and removal of current offenders, the problem lies in the length of time disallowed. If you take too long, you'll lose potential good members, if you don't wait long enough, the offenders will come back, some even use bots so they can let it run longer.

I would suggest blocking their IP's but considering the nature popping Net cafe's and internet shops, other users might be using the same IP of the said establishment. i have downloaded videos and the one way 2 deter potential and existing downloaders is to have all new account holders post 10 to 15 posts in the community and then a review by the moderators before they r allowed to stream.meanwhile other members can flag suspicious posts to help moderators review new members before they can stream.also remove the shoutbox off setting and make it compulsory for all member from time ti time to post in shoutbox coz u have shoutbox moderators rt.they can flag if its a bot r not rt?AND since u mentioned that the offenders list is dynamic does ur tool record all offenders r only current offenders?

This is done elsewhere to authenticate new members but I am against it.
Why? These encourages members to simply spam posts to watch.
Many members do not post. They come for the quality streaming.
Some have never posted anything in the first year they are here. (or first few months, weeks, etc.) After then they discover the community and start posting.
As a primary stream site, this therefore should not be implemented. Different considerations if this was primarily for forum-ing.

Ban of IP is the simpliest way. Admins, can also do something more clever. When you are opening site, or streaming, your programs are conecting to website, and you can block / ban this connection. Then your programs can't connect to streamer, so you can't download it ^ ^ And when you are using proxy , okey and all ^ ^ But also , if you are connecting without IP, you are redirected to another site o_O Simple way for you to need a IP

i was really wondering why after a few days of the new "no leeching rules", OS begins to slow down again.

leechers should get account banned for 1st warning and list down his/her IP cuz they can easily make another account, and if they still do the same after the 1st account banned, then go for the IP banned this way admins can easily identify and remove those stupid leechers here in OS

The database errors are still happening and the streaming is still the same slowness from before... this sucks and if OS needs to be closed down for a period of time then that might be for the best................... This might be the point where the OS staff will be at it's prime.

Banning them by their ID may not be enough, as they can just create a new account and keep on leeching. Best way is to implement subscription for the members. I'm sure those non-leechers won't mind paying. Especially after all the effort the OS team has made to keep the site up. (Though I don't know what sort of implications will arise from asking for a subscription...)

I personally subscribe to crunchyroll, as they actually offer high quality streams for paying users. Only sad thing is they do not even compare in comparison to the number of anime titles OS has. I would very much like to be able to subscribe to OS too! ~if I can get high quality streams~ ^_^

Yeah. Account ban + SUPER DIFFICULT REGISTRATION PROCESS! Or, Disable Registration. I'm sure most of us here are willing to help with the super difficult registration. Like, interviews, or history check, that way, population will be controlled.. Not the IP BAN please! i'm sharing my IP with a lot of people, and people from the net cafe's will have headaches too.. xD Besides, VPN's and Proxies will make it difficult with I.P. issues.

Okay to answer some of the points being brought up.

IP banning : This is what we do. Yes, most of us have dynamic IP addresses - so the next time theyy log in, they can try again - but just imagine - Leech 2 seconds / ban / make a new account or log out of the net and log in again / leech 2 secs / ban / We can go on like this forever - no problem, but how annoying will that be? This would apply to anyone using a proxy either.

We wont delete your account - simply because we are really nice people and we want you to stream here. Dont take it personally - we love our members, we just cant let you leech

Reason for stopping leeching : This is not only because the site is slow. We also simply cant afford it. We pay for a server which gives us more than enough bandwidth for everyone to stream, but everytime someone uses a download manager to leech, its like streaming 15-20 vids at the same time. Eventually we run out of bandwidth and we either have to close the site down or we need to pay.

We cant afford to pay. We barely make our entitlement every month - no way can we afford more. We have once again started putting in our own money and seriously we cant continue

Paying membership : As we have mentioned many times before - we wont add adverts or force people to pay. Our vision behind this site is to keep it open for the rich and poor alike and the day we cant do this, we will consider closing it down

Downloading sites : If the sites like Animetake have files that are too large - there are plenty others such as Minitheatre which have 45MB - 60MB videos. Guys - I own 5 anime DVD's. However I have uploaded 5000 + vids here simply by downloading, converting and uploading. A little bit of effort - surfing, a good anti-virus and a programme such as WOT can find you anything on the web. Try it, it can be fun XD

Any new person who accidentally downloads without knowing and gets banned can come back in a couple of hrs. The ban is not permanent. Just annoying to leechers

Finally - lets not get all worked up and spread hate. Lets stop the name calling XD. We are a fun, close knit community so lets just continue in the same spirit. The site is already a lot faster since the auto ban came in place - so pls help us to spread the love and lets ENJOY ... and
